Yup. What Shaye said. :-) It may take a looong time, but it will cure

out, eventually. If you don't want to wait, however, you could rebatch it with

a batch with a very high water discount.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Susie,
Decide what percentage of your water will be pumpkin, and subtract it to get
the water amt. For instance, if you wanted 24 oz. of water, and wanted to
use 50% pumpkin puree, you'd use 12 oz. water and 12 oz. pumpkin. I'm pretty
sure that last time I made it, I did 50/50, mixing the lye with the water,
adding it to the oils, and then adding the pumpkin.
Susie, I dont know how big your batch was but maybe you could reduce the
amount of pumpkin you put in. Or I dont know if you can do this but can you
put the pumpkin into a juicer to separate the water and the pulp? Add the
water to the lye and then add the pulp in later? Do you know where im going
with that? Can I ask how much water and lye you used in addition?
Thanks
Shaye
yeah i was going to say that too. That pretty much any fruit or
veggie product added is used as a water amount. so if you want you
could use all purreed cucumbers(which i did once) or half pumpkin
half water or purreed grapes.
I have a question though. I am assuming that you cook things first
though don't you?? like if i wanted to do a carrot soap I would cook
my carrots first then purree them right in the cooking water (would
also help keep nutrients even though the lye might eat it.)and add
that.
Susie,
If I had the power, I'd get rid of all no-weigh soap recipes, except for
those using whole containers of ingredients, because they are just too
inaccurate. If you're going to make cp, you just need to get a scale. It's
really
the only way. Scales you use for soap don't have to be very expensive, either,
Yes, you can put your soap in the oven to dry it out. I heat mine to 180
degrees, put the soap in, and turn it off. Remove it from the oven in the
morning.
Hey Susie, I agree. I'd just let it air dry longer. A dehumidified room would
be better than the oven. An oven could soften the bar further. It should come
out just fine with the longer wait.
I use raw produce also except for carrots. For a carrot soap I use baby
food. Works great!
Oh Beth, that's not lecturing, that's sharing by experience. I love picking
brains.I do have a scale and do make soap with it but I also make soap with
no-weigh and so far it comes out great, except of course the watery pumpkin. LOL
I like playing with different recipes. I get bored with the same old
hum-drum.But I do have trouble with the % I have always stunk in math and
science too! Maybe I'm just a witch in another life mixing up my potion. LOL
Oh no. If the fruit/veggie is well pureed, and the soap is well-made, the
I got my scale from Old Will Knott. GREAT company to deal with. I know
I've read that some get their scales at Wal-Mart. Just make sure it weighs
several lbs. and at least to the 1/10 of an oz.
Don't use a wooden spoon to stir your soap, though! I use a big stainless
steel whisk. You could use a huge spatula like the ones from
_www.soapequipment.com_ (http://www.soapequipment.com) , a plastic " wooden "
spoon, something
like that, but not wood. It will splinter and then you'll wonder why you're
Scales. I also have one that measures tiney amounts in grams like for
preservatives and such. Also I agree about the wooden spoon. Use either
plastic or stainless.
