Sandi - does have an ENT? It sounds like the ped is in over his head

Ursula,

Yes, he does, but he ALWAYS wants to do surgery on Bri. I think it makes

more sense to find a new ENT. Or, as I told Dale, educate the old one!! Maybe

it's time?

Sandi-have they tried a combo of nasal sprays? Each of my boys use two

twice each day.. Adding the second one really helped. Astelin is an

antihistamine and nor a steroid like the others, but it has helped the boys

along with the others..

A combination is a good idea--I will have to fight his insurance to pay for

Let us know how it turns out. It has really helped our boys to be on both.

We do switch from Flonase to another steroid spray here and there. they've

been on them all. Right now we are trying a new medication for J to see if

we can avoid sinus infections. I'm dreaming, I know..

I knew of a young girl with Autism who cut her clothing because she was either sensitive to the fabric or the laundry products used. Is this something that can be fixed by changing products or fabrics? My son is 15 and he won't wear anything but elastic waist or drawstring pants, he won't wear anything with buttons. Hi Marilyn,

doesn't just cut his clothes, he cuts his brothers clothes or anything else. He recently cut the fabric that is under his mattress (bunkbeds). To me, it seems behavioral. has a fixation with string, yarn, etc. His newest craze is belts. If finds string attached to anything he is going to get it off some way. As far as the stealing, it can be anything. He took a bolt off the teachers' easel. He went into her desk and took an allen key. His teacher has been very helpful in trying to stop the behavior. She has put a barracade around her desk, yet still gets to it. Someone suggested an ABA, but we don't have that kind of money. I have taken the scissors from him, yet he still finds more. I imagine he gets them from school. He must be really good at hiding them because I check his pockets, agenda, and any place I can

think he might hide them. Unfortunately, his 6 year old brother has gotten very fond of tattling on anytime finds something. As far as the OT, the Marcus Institute didn't recommend nor suggest that he needed any. The school had receiving OT, but they have stopped it because his goals have been accomplished. I would buy elastic pants, but he cut the pants to get to the elastic because he wanted it.

I know without the funds, it may be very difficult to find the help he needs.

PLEASE KEEP THE SUGGESTIONS COMING.

I appreciate all the imput. You guys are awesome, and it's wonderful to be able to come to a place where others understand, and support you.

Thanks again,

,My daughter has a fascination with strings/rope too!! I had never heard of another child doing that. One time I found her tied up to her bunkbeds with a string around her neck, tied to the bed posts. So tight she couldn't move nor take it off. Thank goodness I went to check on her when she got quiet!! She was standing there tied up like that. She will take strings off of anything--her mattresses, her clothing, any soft toys or pillows. She finds a way to get strings or rope no matter what I do to prevent it. Oh she has pom poms that I am considering hiding or giving away as she keeps pulling the strings off. She likes to suck on them or tie herself or stuff up. I have no idea why! She loves scissors but I don't let her have them. She has never cut clothing but I am right on top of her when she does use scissors for doing art projects. K. uses knives inappropiately even play knives so I don't let her anywhere near knives. She

doesn't get that people can get hurt on them. (She wants to be a pirate ;) ) Middlebrooks <godsmercysaidno@...> wrote: Hi Marilyn, doesn't just cut his clothes, he cuts

, : My son makes three with the strings/rope. He will even unlace the shoes on your feet while you are having a conversation with someone. I finally figured out how to keep him from unlacing his own. When I first started this, he would become very angry that he could not get them out of the shoes. Now he just looks for laces elsewhere. All lace-up shoes in our house have to be kept on the closet shelf, or when you go to put them on they will have no laces in them!

Lora & ,

You both have put a smile on my face. Before this group, I truly thought I was the only one.

Lora, you have made me think about something. Why does have a fascination with string, yet he doesn't take the laces off of his shoes??? He does have issues with tying them, especially in the morning. It's not that he doesn't know how, he just doesn't want to. I'm not sure I will ever understand, and that's ok. I just need some skill or method that will help him stop some of his behaviors. I am not sure the string will ever stop, but the stealing has to stop and so does cutting anything he wants. There isn't a money tree that I can get to, to keep buying everyone clothes and sheets. I am probably going to start with his teacher, and make sure she isn't giving him any scissors.

Thanks,

It IS good to know that it's not just me. I think it is the same; but Colby is just behind . He CANNOT tie his shoes (or even lace them). The string thing started once he mastered lacing as a fine motor activity. It was sort of like, now I can do it, so I am GOING to do it EVERYWHERE! The taking things that don't belong to us started two weeks ago. I'm with you - it MUST stop. I have been searching him also and making him return the item(s) and apologize (just as you would with a normal child). We continually have the "we don't take things that don't belong to us" talk. One day when he had no pockets, he even removed his shoes and socks, placed the items in his socks, and then put his socks back on (without his shoes, of course, since he can't put them on either)!

Hi Lora,

It probably isn't funny, but when I read your email, I cracked up. I have always said is creative, I just need to find a way to put it to a positive more constructive use. I have to say, Colby has beat with the shoes thing. has put things in his underwear because he knew I was going to check his pockets. How old is Colby? is 8. May I ask where are you in Georgia? It sounds like we could share some stories. Have you tried the chelation that I have read about here? What about ABA?

, This one is a tough one, with we struggle through all those years with not knowing what was really wrong with him but we survived somehow. We did lock up all the scissors and knives, counted the ones in the kitchen for long time. It was not easy cause he would be sneaky and swipe them and hored them until he decided to use them, I did not have any whole sheets for years, he even cut up our mattress. Lucky he never got started on the clothes, which would seem like the easier target. I wish I had more to tell you,but put everything you can under lock and key. I was so hungry the first two days, I had to eat something in the

evening or I wouldn't have been able to sleep. It did get better and

I am now on day 22. I havn't lost as much as most, buy have lost 7

inches. I have muscle weakness which I found out is from low

potassium. Hang in there and do the best you can! I don't know why

some have no trouble and some do.

Hmmmm Are you injecting? Where did you get the HCG? Did you gorge

the 1st 2 days? I am on day 3 of the 500 cal diet. I can honestly

say that I have not had an issue with hunger except for some mild

pangs at certain times of the day. I have been light headed as well

but only at certain times of the day. I have lost 8 pounds already.

I also have been walking an hour a day. I have not been ravenous at

all which i thought I would.

Yes, I am injecting. The HCG came from my doctor, and yes I gorged the first two days, so much so that I couldn't eat anymore. I don't know what's wrong. I added a little bit of protein to my supper one, I am a bit better. but definately still a bit hungry, so it will be another sleepless night. Thanks,

Are you getting the shots everyday. If not this is definitely the problem. You need that Hcg in your body, it doesn't stay there for 5 to 7 days, even if more is injected. I took Sundays off and was hungry just from one day.
