Guest guest
Have you thought about making an appt to see a children's pyschiatrist (spelling is wrong) ? I know that they aren't many in our area (OHIO). We have alot of pyschologist that deals with autism but they can't prescribe medicine. Perhaps her other doctors (pediatrician & neurologist) could make a referral call to help you get in sooner. I am sure that the appt wait time may be a few months. I believe in our area the average wait time to see a specialist is 6-8mos unless its a life threatening. Our pediatrician is reluctant to prescribe meds without seeing a pyschiatrist since she doesn't deal with these type of drugs (like zoloft/paxil) in the younger children. My thoughts are with your family -- HELP!!! OK... We have reached a time when I must do something drastic. Things have been increasingly getting worse behavior wise and then tonight after telling our 8 year old it was time to go to the store and leave the playground she spit at her father... which is something completely unacceptable to me, regardless of her diagnosis. Her punishment for this was no ice cream.. fairly mild, IMO, from here she began praying for God to take her to the land of spoiled brats where she might be allowed to eat all the ice cream and candy she ever wanted and could pick her scabs and be mean to her sister... then it escalated to her telling me how she was going to get a boy in our neighborhood whom she calls her boyfriend to kill her father and I. I am not too concerned she could actually accomplish this feat at this age BUT, I also know it won't be long before she can... SO... I am thinking I need to call the doc asap and get some new meds or do something before this gets any worse... she also threatened to punch me in the stomach, which wouldn't normally bother me but I am pregnant at the moment. I tell you, I am fearful she CAN at this point, hurt her 3 year old sister... sorry to be going on and on and venting about my own child but I honestly don't know that a new med can help us and wonder where else am I to go from here. We have been seeing a neurologist for meds, but is there a better option? Thanks for listening! Lyn
Guest guest
Lyn, Is there a large university/hospital in your area?? We recently started seeing a new psych (at Stanford) & he also suggested getting psych testing on my daughter. During the intake questions re the psych testing (over the phone) - they asked if my daughter has ever felt suicidal, had suicidal thoughts (as far as I know - no). (The psych testing will be in Sept.). I guess (??) since your situation has gotten 'desperate' - try contacting a large university/hospital's psych dept. Of course, as you know - no promises your situation will improve - but hopefully it will!! Good luck, Mona HELP!!! OK... We have reached a time when I must do something drastic. Guest guest
I would suggest you make an appointment with someone SOON & not wait several months for an appointment with anyone. I assume(?) if you explain your situation (e.g. pregnant & fearing she might hurt you) - you should hopefully get an appointment soon. Good luck Mona Re: HELP!!! Guest guest
I'm very sorry you and your family are going through such trying times. I can relate as my daughter is going through puberty and has been having a tough time, but not to the extent of your daughter. Just in my personal and professional experience( both special ed teacher and ABA trainer) when we took our daughter off all dairy products, we saw a tremendous decrease in aggressiveness. I have work with several boys whose parents have done the same and also saw marked improvements in their temperment and aggression. As I saw your daughter eats ice cream, I'm assuming she eats dairy products. She may not be able to break down the casein protein. Just my two cents worth. My best, HELP!!! > OK... Guest guest
i'm new to the group, but do you use timeout for bad behavior? ABA therapy (behavioral psychologist) can do wonders and it is scientifically proven effective. my daughter, age 5-1/2, has been on zoloft for 3-1/2 yrs and it greatly increases her awareness and aids in alleviating depression/crying, but she does not take it for aggression or non-compliance. these are things that the ABA therapy handled very effectively. good luck - dian \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ > Have you thought about making an appt to see a children's pyschiatrist (spelling is wrong) ? Is the pain kinda like your muscle isnt long enough as it reaches your knee on the inside?it feels like its kinda stretching its best to reach yor knee? ......god that all sounds weird after reading what I wrote....... I've started taking those tablets as well since Fri but I find they make me really thirsty! As for the physio.....I was at that 3 times a week and I didnt find it any good really! But hey different strokes for different folks! Guest guest
Hi, A simple contusion *might* feel better in six months, but if you injured the knee after having adapted to how you had to walk following ankle and knee injuries, then your system may not be willing/able to accommodate walking differently with the pain from that hit to the knee. Been there. Done that. I live in the rural US, in the California desert. The nearest doctors are 50 or more miles away from home. Physical therapists? We don't have any locally at all. So, I have the doctor tell me exercises I am supposed to be doing, all a cousin in New York who is a physical therapist and we work out a program. For the present, my range of motion is quite good. The injections (steroids) that I had last week have helped a lot, but there is a strain situation to deal with, so I am careful about what I do with these knees. I refuse to kneel on them,'t but that's okay, because God understands. <smile> My husband drives a huge over-the-road tractor-trailer rig and I can climb up into it and down out of it with no problems. I do feel some pain, but it is less painful to climb than it is to walk some days. I haven't seen an orthopedic surgeon as yet, only read the opinions of the two who were asked to review my MRI results. Starting on January 2, 2003, I will begin the Synvisc injections and we will go from there. If those injections work, then they can be repeated at six-month intervals. So, if I have good success with them, I will repeat them. If not, then I guess we are going to talk to the doctor about surgery (again). Guest guest
Hey Dianne... Injections and surgery would be the very last on my list.I'd say its not even possible to have it done here.Im having a really difficult time getting a knee brace (have u tried that?) There is one place here that has them but its not as up to date as the ones in the US . Well I'm gonna try and start with the physio and see how it goes tonight. Will let ye all know what she says.Meant to be a very good Physio.....lets see how good she is! Guest guest
How far are you from your next meal? Can you just drink a couple of glasses of water and distract yourself? How about some hot tea? Some people will say to go for the cocoa, but for myself, I find it easier to be perfect than to just cheat a little. If I cheat at all then I have to decide what is the line between an " acceptable " cheat and an " unacceptable " cheat. Easier to just not cheat. Guest guest
Good for you for passing on the cocoa, and great on the water intake so far! I know Bill talks about using meal replacements for your in between meals, but remember, you can have 6 whole food meals if you want. I prefer that because they fill me up more and are more rounded with less suger than the meal replacements. I eat a ton of veggies to keep me full too. Guest guest
There really isn't a way to make it go faster. If you claim to be an addict then you must use the " just for today " approach. Thinking in the long term only causes anxiety and problems. Days turn into weeks, which turn into months, etc. and eventually you'll be where you want to be by just sticking to it. Cutting down on calories will only slow your progress because your body will just want to hang onto fat even more. Your meals look ok. Cottage cheese is a very high quality source of protein and so are egg whites. If you're hungry you can always eat tons of steamed or raw broccoli, or spinach leaves for the crunch factor. Keep at this, you'll get there. Stasia

Just try to be patient and it will all fall into place. The only thing I'd suggst on your menu is to add veggies although maybe you just didn't list them.
