Guest guest Report post Posted March 13, 2002 nne I haven't ever made any "on purpose" but I have peeled a bunch of soap out of a glass cup & rolled it into a ball & let it dry to see if it would stay together. It worked fine. I would suggest using opaque soap, though, instead of clear. I don't know if they had clear soap in the "olden" days. And I would go for a light tan color I think. Just my opinion. NE gathering, help for a friend, vintage soap balls Hey, all!>>Is there anyone on this list that will be attending the New EnglandSoapmakers gathering that will be taking place in RI on July 27th?<<It's in Rhode Island? Wow. I didn't know that. I wonder how far that is fromwhere I live in Albany? I was considering attending it, but if it's *too*far, I don't know ...Thank you to everyone who helped me with my friend's questions about theshelf life of soaps and other bath and body products. She really appreciatedyour help. I think that she's going to go ahead and start on her projects... she's really looking forward to it.A woman contacted me yesterday and asked me if I've ever made soap ballsthat are about one inch in diameter. She wants them to be kind ofvintage-looking. She makes craft items for a museum shop, and she wants meto make some "soap balls" to include inside her containers of items. I'mreally excited about this; the only thing is that she wants the soap ballsto look kind of rough, like they are vintage ... and with M & P soap, I'mtrying to figure out the best way to do that. I asked her what scents shewould like to have, and she said that she would get back to me on that. Oneinch in diameter is pretty freaking small!!! I am thinking about pouringsome M & P soap onto a clean cookie sheet, and when it dries a little, formingit into balls. Do you think that would work? That might produce a "crackedice" kind of look with clear M & P, maybe? I'll have to experiment. Anyway, she asked for a sample of a dozen and seemed interested in my bath teabags, too. I had no clue how much to charge her for a dozen of these soap balls ~I said $8 plus $3.50 for shipping. I have absolutely no clue! But thatseemed fine to her. So we'll see!~nne in Albany (where it's extremely foggy this morning)Our Message Boardhttp://www.voy.com/21568/Check out these great Molds!!http://soapwerks.com/martinworld.htmMember Kae's Site... Guest guest Report post Posted March 13, 2002 That's a good idea, , to peel soap out of a cup and roll it into a ball. That would be easier and less messy than a cookie sheet. I never thought about them not having clear soap in the "olden" days ... that makes sense! Thanks so much for your ideas! ~nne
Guest guest Report post Posted March 15, 2002 Hi , I have that warning on my bath melts too. I'm petrified that someone will slip while standing in the tub and try to sue me. I don't really have anything they could take now but hopefully will be building a house this year. Just my luck I'll get it built and then WHAMO... I try to label the heck out of everything just in case. H.

Guest guest Report post Posted March 18, 2002 Thanks, nne By the way, is this stationary from KreativeKlutter.com? Just curious. RE: Re: PLEASE READ Hmm ... I think that your description sounds very good, and I would say that either making a small sign to display or printing the message on card stock and adding them to the customer's bag would be good ... I think that if you put them into the bags, they would be more likely to read them ... or what about doing both? Is that too much, though? Thanks for asking our opinions ... I think that your wording sounds great! ~nne :-)Our Message Boardhttp://www.voy.com/21568/Check out these great Molds!!http://soapwerks.com/martinworld.htmMember Kae's Site... Guest guest Report post Posted June 13, 2002 By the pool? Do you have sun in Albany that we don't have here in the Mohawk Valley? Gee, I wanted to have a little tan before we go to Florida in two weeks. I hate to go spend money at a tanning booth. You'd think that by the end of June I wouldn't need to. But if we don't get some good sun in the next two weeks, I just may do that. The shower soaps were heart shaped and they had two wedding rings intertwined hanging from a bow. I did the rings and bow in gold mica and the rest of the soap just white. I bought (5) of the molds so I could do (15) soaps at a time. I wrapped them in white tulle and tied with gold silk raffia. I even did little labels on the back of the soaps saying " Handcrafted soap made especially for Holly " Of course I put my business label on there too just in case there was anyone at the shower that had a wedding in their future to " plant " the idea in their head. I did three different scents. From what I hear everyone loved them at the shower. Well, I have to go do some bookwork and I won't get it done sitting here. Well, I should say sitting here because it's all done on the computer so I guess I WILL be sitting here. (hehe) Dear , HI!!! It's *so* good to hear from you. I've been wondering how you're doing. It will be wonderful to see you at our gathering next month. I can't wait! It will be a blast. >>After doing 120 soaps for a wedding shower<< Wow, man, that must have been one HUGE bridal shower!!! hehe :-) Or maybe the soaps are tiny and you gave more than one to each person. Congrats on that ~ was it fun to do? What did the soaps look like? >>I've been re-doing my bedroom.... paint, wallpaper, curtains and new furniture is on order.<< Cool! How exciting! I can't wait until Jeff and I get to that point with our new house ... decorating. Hopefully we will get a lot soon and can start breaking ground! I'm sure that it will look wonderful once your room is done. >>My VESID rep wants me to spend money FASTER<< Wow, I'm jealous! hehe :-) *drool* Your soapmaking studio is so great ... I love it. My one desk drawer filled with FOs and my hobby stuff in our office closet just pales in comparison. hehe :-) *sigh* >>My husband said I should look into buying a copy machine. I never even gave that a thought.<< Definitely! That would rock! You are going to have an AWESOME soapmaking workshop when you receive all of these things!!! Wow. Talk to you later! Take care! Are you spending lots of time by the pool? ~nne in Albany
Guest guest Report post Posted June 13, 2002 , >>By the pool? Do you have sun in Albany that we don't have here in the Mohawk Valley?<< hehe :-) Nope, but it seems like the weather here has been pretty good lately. I've been enjoying hanging out at our apartment complex's hot tub! :-) Today is bright and sunny ... I hope to get outside and take a nice walk this evening! I want to grill pork chops tonight for dinner ... that sounds like fun! Gosh, I LOVE summer!!!!!!!!!!!! :-D >>The shower soaps were heart shaped and they had two wedding rings intertwined hanging from a bow. Guest guest Report post Posted August 26, 2002 Sure, Terri! I bought those jars from www.berlinpackaging.com (they suck at shipping sometimes, but otherwise I'm very pleased with what they have!). That jar was 16 oz. ~nne

Guest guest Report post Posted August 26, 2002 NP! I think that the jars come from Ohio but the lids come from Dallas. Bizarre. But oh well ... they are VERY nice for bath salts. I am totally impressed with these jars. ~nne

Guest guest Report post Posted August 26, 2002 nne Thanks for your opinion. AC has 40% coupons in a certain weekly paper that comes out a lot of times, too. A.C. versus s , We have both s and A.C. here in Albany. I had always shopped at s and Hobby Lobby when I lived in Indiana, and s is a very large store. It's great ... lots of neat things. I've always enjoyed it. And they have a great 40 percent off any regularly priced item coupon in every Sunday paper (and in flyers at the store). I hadn't heard of A.C. until moving here, and I shop there quite a bit (it's closer to where we live). A.C. is a smaller store than s, but in my opinion they have a greater selection. If you need something kind of specific, A.C. is definitely likely to have it. I do shop at both stores, though, because they both have somewhat different things sometimes. All depends on what I'm looking for. ~nne
Guest guest Report post Posted August 26, 2002 Terri, I don't know what the jars looked like that nne had but you may want to check out TV Guilfoil. You can call and talk to Phil. They're on Pulaski St.in Syracuse and you don't have to have a minimum. Plus you could save on shipping cuz you can pick them up yourself! Their number is 474-8771 and they're great to work with. Check em' out! Kathy Terri Wagner wrote:oh thank you very much. I have them bookmarked, but passed right by them when I was looking. Terri -- RE: nne Sure, Terri! Guest guest Report post Posted September 5, 2002 OK, thanks for that information, Kae. I love Splenda and have been using it in baking (I'm not supposed to have too much sugar because of my anxiety disorder ~ it makes me really nervous, shaky, and jittery!). I drink Diet Rite all the time and love it. I'm so glad to know that's OK. Thanks for writing! ~nne :-)
Guest guest Report post Posted September 5, 2002 Splenda is actuall made from real sugar... they break it down into a sugar alcohol, and continue to break it down until the body doesn't recognize it as sugar anymore... and by the way it has not been tested in any way to se how safe it is yet... i hope it is safe in the end, because we have like a zillion customers who are on the atkins diet...
