Hi!

Lots of us have claimed the costs on the schedule A line for medical

expenses, under the advice of tax professionals. So give it a try.

I claimed it. :)

Jen, I think you should go down to the SS Office and talk to them. You may have

a chance of approval. In MA we have Common health that picks up Medical bills

after you reach a certain deductable even if you are working or have other

insurance if you meet certain eligiblity requirements. . Even if you don't

qualify for regular medicaid there may be other programs that can help. You

won't know till you ask. Don't be embarrassed, you have a need and a serious

medical condition.

Another Question

I know, I am full of questions these days.......

Anyways:

My fiance' wants me to apply for medicaid, right now I am paying for

my COBRA, but I am not receiving any money from my disablity

insurance, it was approved up until 12-29-02 and I finally received a

pay out, they denied my long term because my liver enzymnes have

improved, which as of Feb they were up again. So basically I have to

appeal and prove that I am sick with all this notes from the dr

ect.... not sure if I am going to appeal or not or just go back to

work, well look for a new job anyways. So anyways, since I have

received a pay out from prudential I am still able to pay for my

COBRA, but not any of my medical bills that the insurance doesn't

cover, so my fiance thinks that I should apply for medicaid, my

question is, so I have a chance in getting approved for it? I am a

little embarassed to go and apply for it, but he keeps on hounding me

that I need to get it. What do you folks think?????

Hi Kathy

Could it be possible that the mics on his 3G are not working?I went for 6 months

with a backwards Mic..Made a world of difference when i got on e that faced the

front.

another question

Hi All

I have another question for you all. We were experimenting just now

with the microphone accessory that came with s N24. It was

plugged in to his processor and I was speaking (with my mouth

covered) into the mic. He heard everything I said with no visual

clues at all. Usually I read him 4 or 5 written sentences and he has

to pick which one I read or he has a photo to match to the sentence.

This time he just repeated everything I said with no clues at all.

Progress? or is it because the mic knocks out the background noise?

So does anybody have any ideas on how I might help him to hear like

this with out the extra mic and also is it a good idea to practise

with it or is it making it harder for him when I take it off if I let

him use the mic in practise?

Thanks Kathy

Kathy,

The aux mic is directional so it picks up less background. It

doesn't actually block out sound, its just the nature of a directional

mic. Mappings can get you to that kind of performance, give it time.

I am sure that Clarion have beige (tan) color of the processor. Nucleus have

Hey Ingrid, did anyone ever answer your question? I'd love to know.

My Doc took all three bones out too and told me that since the bones

are gone i would be deaf but i too still have some hearing.

I have a crackeling sound evertime i swallow and the only way it will

subside for a few minutes is when i YAWN! I wonder what it is about

yawning that changes your hearing. I am so glad someone else

experienced a change with yawning i thought i was NUTS!

I hope all is going well for you in that this reply in not timely!!!

Best of luck!

I went back to the Dr yesterday and it is the first time since January I have been told that my left ear finally looks good. I have had 2 surgeries this year, both to remove C-Toma.

I am 50 years old and this is the first year that I have ever been treated for this. I am told that with the amount of damage and scar tissue in both ears that I have had alot of ear problems all of my life (don't know where I was during this time, LOL).

The crackling for me has subsided. I am told that for the first time this year, the Eustachian tube in my left ear is now working on it's own (without a tube) and equalizing pressure. When you yawn, the Eustachian tube opens and equalizes the pressure in your middle ear. I am told that the more I hear the popping sound the better for me, it means the tube is working. I was told that when I yawned and could hear that night, it was probably the first time my tube had opened on it's own.

I still have that horrible metal taste in my mouth, but find that if I suck on a lemon drop or add a little lemon juice to water before I drink it, it helps alot. I am told that it could take months for that to go away, everyone is different.

I still have the dizziness, but not as bad as it was. They gave me epam for it and all that did was make me drowsy. I went and bought some Dramamine and that has been doing a great job. I am thinking about trying one of those bracelets for motion sickness and see if that helps. My daughter went on a cruise and she swears by them. At this point I am willing to try anything.

My right ear has nerve damage and alot of scar tissue. This eardrum has been retracted since I first went to the Dr in January. He put a tube in that ear last month. My eardrum was very thin and weak and the hope is that by inserting a tube will relieve some pressure off of the eardrum and hopefully it will strengthen. As of yet, that is all of the problems that I have with that ear. Dr's do not like to work on both of your ears at the same time unless they absolutely have to. Well, I guess this was an I have to time.

My left ear, the one that has no bones in it, the one that I am suppose to be deaf in, the one that I have had 2 surgeries on, is now wearing a hearing aid!!! Yes, I can hear!!! I don't have any answers for that and am seeing 2 other Dr's to get other opinions on my ear.

I have a loaner Analog Hearing Aid in that ear. My insurance will not cover Hearing Aids. I am told that I need the digital one, with the guts behind the ear (as Tom described). I am way past vanity and really don't care what it looks like as long as I can hear. I have started going to Nebraska's Vocational Rehabilitation Program to see if they can help me get the hearing aid I need and get rehabilitated so that maybe I can get back to work doing something, anything at this point!!!

In checking into different Hearing Aids with the Audiologist I have learned alot. The hearing aids that are small and have the guts inside the ear canal do not work for everyone. I am told that I am one of these people. The problem for me is that I have alot of junk and wax in my ear that has to be cleaned out. Even if someone just has alot of wax, they could have problems with the small ear canal ones that I saw. Ear wax or junk can get into the guts of the hearing aid and destroy it. I was told that the warranty and insurance does not cover that kind of damage. With the way technology changes, who knows what is on the market today or will be tomorrow. If I am fortunate enough to get a Digital Hearing Aid, I want the one with the guts behind the ear, I want the ability to change the volume control and the background noise setting. I am told that I need hearing aids that have different settings for background noise. Just out of curiosity I tried on one of the ear canal ones and found that I could not adjust the volume without taking the thing out of my ear, maybe that is just me. I know that there are the really expensive in the ear canal hearing aids that have the volume and background noise control on a special watch that you wear. Nice looking watch and control, but also a a Rolex kind of price to it.

I am a computer person and have worked with Networking Computer Systems for over 20 years. I am certified to teach. I can do nothing if I cannot hear. Communication is 80% of my work world. My last job was really interesting and in hindsight brought the C-Toma to my attention. I was flying to different airports in the US teaching the baggage screeners how to use the Security Equipment that was installed in Airports last year. All of the flying is what helped bring the C-Toma to the surface, my ears would not clear for days after a flight.

So, that is where I am at and at this moment just thankful that I can hear a little. I also realize that I am luckier than alot of people , especially those of you that have had to go through this most of your lives and the small children. Everyone is in my thoughts.

I'm so happy to hear that your ear is finally doing well and most off

that you can HEAR!!!!! How wonderful that must be!!

I too have found that lemon in my water takes the taste out of my

mouth, must have something to do with the acidity of the lemon juice.

It's too bad that ins. comp's won't pay for hearing aids, i expressed

this same displease to Tom Hansen on this site, It's just a shame!

I called my doc. regarding the crackling in my ear and was told that

if it presisted to crackling a week from now i needed to come in for

fear of the ear drum failing. Great, that's all i need is to worry

everytime i swallow that i'm ruining my new drum, but, it's in god's

hands and i can't help what's going to be.

I'm so happy that your ear is becomming healthy and that your

dizziness is under control, i too have heard that the arm bands are

quite wonderful. Hopefully it will work for you, please report back

to let us all know!!

Best of luck and healing!

Hopefully it will be okay. Whenever I swallow, I still hear the crackle, but it is not as loud as it was. I am one month out from surgery and so far so good, this time. This is the 2nd eardrum I have had this year!!

Hopefully you will be able to hear enough to be able to be able to do your job. Being at Attorney, this must be just awful for you!

I only joined this site a little over a month ago and it is the best thing that has happened for me. Being able to share with others that are going through the same things.

I agree that this site is great. Right before i found this i was with

in a week or two of my second surgery and was in tears. i am a

newlywed and have found that my husbannd just doesxn't understand how

frustrating not being able to hear is and sometimes he gets angry with

my constant response being " what'd you say " !! I have found great

solace in the people here and great relief that i'm not the onlly

person who is sick death of ear probllems!

The second ear drum this year? So does that mean if the ear drum they

just put in fails they can try again? I never thought to ask them that!

after this last surgery hurting so bad and still hurting now, ithink

that without this group i would have gone insane!!!

As always you are in my thoughts and best wishes for your healing!

My husband had the same problems and I started copying all of the emails that I get from this group and forward them to him on his computer. That has helped him understand. It took me a long to understand how little we know about people with disabilities until we have one of our own. Our society does not teach us how to deal with it and gives us little advice what to do when you run into someone who has a problem.

I found a wonderful helpful sheet that describes the conditions how you and he can communicate better. I will try and find it and email it to you.

Here are a couple of things from the sheet that have worked for me:

Try to stop saying "what'd you say?", I was so sick of hearing myself saying it and he was sick of hearing it. I find that if I ask him to just repeat what he says, it seems to help. I had a bad habit of also saying "Huh or What?" If I have heard some of the conversation, I try to tell him that I heard him up until a certain point. That way he does not feel he has to always start from the beginning. Sometimes I have just missed a couple of words. Or sometimes I realize that I have heard the total wrong thing!!! I try feeding it back to him , what I thought I heard. It is not easy on either one of you. It took me along time to realize that my husband was in the problem with me. It didn't feel that way in the beginning and sometimes still don't, unless you have been here, you don't know. He is trying very hard.

I was also told for us not to talk to each other unless we were facing each other, that way his voice is coming directly too you.

Keep important conversations that are important in rooms that you feel the most comfortable hearing in. Our kitchen seems to bounce all kinds of noise around it and I can not hear hardly anything when I am in there. Our family room is great as long as he mutes the TV. If he starts talking when he is watching the TV, I ask him to mute the TV.

I am trying to find a place that teaches Lip Reading. I was told by my Audiologist that she can tell that I am already starting to do that, I am not aware of it. I currently live near Omaha, NE and I have only found 2 people here that teach it. I am originally from Chicago and there are alot of opportunities to learn there. I might just sign up for a class and go visit my sister for a while.

Believe, me I understand! I am here if you need me.

Speaking of ear crackling, do any of you pinch your nose and self inflate your eardrum? I do this and can hear it crackle when I inflate it. Wondering if this is good or bad?

I reguarly " pop " my good ear. (My c-toma ear has a tube) I saw my doc on

the 5th and he asked me to pop it. It always has negative pressure in it.

He recommended I pop it as much as 5-6 times a day. I won't remember that

often, but I do it when I remember. He's itching to put a tube in that ear

again but doens't want to do surgery for just that.

I'd love to take a look at that sheet!

As i read this i had to laugh because i was thinking the other day. i

wonder how many times a day i say " what'd you say " or What? Huh? "

too funny!

It's frustrating and unfortunately people don't even think that you

have a problem because they can't see that you can't hear!

I also read lips a little and have found that if someone is not

talking face to face with me i hear very little so when i'm in a store

i have to come right and tell the salesperson or who ever that i have

a hearing problem and they need to speak up and look at me. i hate

having to do that but what can you do? I'm having a birthday party

for my husband this friday and just dread it because this will be the

first time since the surgery that i will be around his friends and

they dont know i can't hear anymore! So i'm sure i'll be missing alot

of the conversation's with all the noise and activity going on in the

house!

Thank god for this group otherwise i think i would have gone crazy!!!

You do not have to decide what to do or else. Just tell the Dr. you are

incomfortable with any more vaxing at this point. You can always get the shots

later. There is no 'now or never' to vaxs. Let your Dr. know that you are

doing research on the pros and cons. If he/she is not happy with this explain

that you would be happy to read any factual info he/she recommends. But that

you will not blindly go forward with vaxing. I personally was in similar

circumstances with my daughter. After much research and agonizing, I realized

that I would not ever be comfortable with any more vaxing. So I left my

daughters Dr and found a good homeopath.

Hang in there

Another Question

I hope I do not aggravate you ladies to much but someone mentioned that baby

shots have anti freeze and formaldehyde in them can someone tell me which ones.

Right now I am at a very difficult cross road. is 11 months old today.

Before all the things surfaced that Isaiah may have autism we are currently

going through the testing I blindly let both of my children receive every

vaccination that the doctor said they should have. We will be going in for her

12 months check up in 1 month I have to decide in now what I want to do. I told

my husband I did not know if I would let get the vaccinations or not and

he wanted to know why. So I told him of some of the things I have been learning.

I want to be armed with as much knowledge as possible when we go in for that

visit. Any suggestions are appreciated. Thank you for listening. I just hope I

did not allow my children to be damaged by something I thought was good for

them.

May God bless you and yours.

May want to rethink why you have to go for a 12 month check? What is the

purpose of that 12 month check? Vaccines.

I'll send some info on vaccine ingredients

May want to review my webpages

And be very careful - you don't want to arm yourself with knowledge FOR THE

VISIT. You will not win. None of us ever win. You will not convince

anyone. If you go for the visit you just say no, or say you are delaying

and don't get into a discussion. Say your mind is made up. But you will

be in over your head if you think you can explain this to the doctor.

<< But you will be in over your head if you think you can explain this

to the doctor.>>

I so agree with this statement! I can't believe what a wimpy idiot I

become when my son's doctor starts in on me about vaccines. I have so

admired her care of my older two kids (she is very reluctant to use

antibiotics or do invasive things) yet she has used every trick, and I

do mean " trick " , in the book to jab this baby. The GUILT they induce is

enormous.

If you HAVE to go for the 12 month visit, I would suggest telling the

doctor that you are in the middle of researching vaccines and have

decided to delay them until she is two, or sooner if you get more

information. The doctor is unlikely to actually give you info because

they don't want you to have it, (if he does, say, " Okay, I'll read this

at home and get back to you next week, " ) but may be pacified a bit that

you will start up again after age 2. You don't have to do it at all, of

course, but it may help keep him off your back while you research.

Good luck!

YOu are not alone . Even those of us who are nurses are bowled over

by them, even with as much as I know. I don't even try anymore. They will

only wake up when one of their own is damaged and not even then sometimes

due to the denial
