No, don't buy Lou. It is made from copra (can be moldy so possibly can

contain mycotoxins) and processed with hexane. It is steamed to remove the

hexane but, we don't know if there are traces of hexane left.

Coconut oil is very sensitive to moisture. If you open the jar after your bath

and there is steam in your bathroom, it will surely help to make the oil rancid

faster.

fresh, and I bought that 4 years ago (I use this one for my ointments at my

shop). It will, however, quickly turn rancid if you put your fingers in it, as I

did with the jar I keep in the bathroom for my hair, skin and oil pulling. After

dipping in with my fingers, that I was certain were clean, the oil had that

rancid stink in just a couple of weeks...So be certain to use a clean spoon.

I heat my VCO in a glass measuring cup on a candle warmer-takes about 10

minutes. I then use the oil for oil-pulling, also in my morning breakfast drink.

Have you found a way to use the oil for your bathroom purposes and not make it

rancid?

Taking into account that we are now in winter and the oil is solid.  So I thot

to try an electric cup warming pad and put the oil in a pump bottle and heat it.

The bottle I used was a heavy thick shatter-resistant plastic, but it still

turned rancid.  So I have been looking for a ceramic or glass pump bottle, but

have not found one that I like yet.

Where did you find a glass measuring cup?  I have tried two kinds of metal cups

mysef.  The first one went rancid quickly. But then I used one from a set

that I

hope to believe are stainless steel, and that seems to be ok, at least so

far.

I have also used a shot glass, but that was messy.  See, one particular way I

use the oil is in a Tbsp.  I put the oil in a spoon and then I pull apart my

supplement capsules and put the powder into the oil.  That is how I take them.

So I would really like something that does not drip.

My real desire is that I can find a small glass pump bottle, like a

foundation bottle or a little bigger. This would be less messy to me.  But I

am

curious about knowing who makes glass measuring cups. I have never seen glass.

Pyrex makes glass measuring cups. I've gotten them at Target, Walmart,

Amazon.com, local grocery store.

I am using two vit E products together, but they are not helping. I

think they are synthetic E rather than real. I just do not know which chemical

name is the real E.  So I do not feel confident that I would choose a real

vitamin C either.

For your face, you can simply pierce a Vit E gel cap and apply the oil you

squeeze out, but you should also look into using Vit C on your face for

wrinkles. Google " homemade Vit C serum " , as there's lots of links that teach how

to make it, avoiding the crappy and unnecessary ingredients found in the ultra

expensive serums found at drug and beauty stores.

you can know it is not synthetic if it is organic or wildcrafted rose hips...I

use a tincture.

I take it often...  quaslity and purity do matter - one really needs a company

So I guess you don't know about Vit E either. You haven't mentioned that in

either reply.

There are lots of tinctures around. Again, purity is the issue. I had been

ordering from Swansonvitamins.com for a year, and have sent much back (they have

a 1 year return policy). I have been disappointed over and over. The only thing

that worked somewhat for me is $26.00 a bottle. I can't do that every month with

everything else I am trying to do for myself.

I-herb just looks like another Swansonvitamins. They sell everything and

anything and that translates to me like they are just in a business and don't

really care about the purity of what they sell.  They just sell wayyyy too much

and too many brands, just like Swanson.  But thanks for the thought.

If you can find them, they have pasteurized egg yolks... I dont know if it

kills whatever you are trying to benefit from egg yolks, but maybe knowing that

e coli and salmonella are gone will help?

I am the gal who gave the egg yolk and lemon experience. Trust me. I cringed at

the idea for over a month, even tho the post that told me about it said you

will

never know you are drinking a yolk. Well, I can attest to that. It is true.

Give the two a good mix together and the only thing you will taste is the

lemon

whose tartness is actually softened a little by the presence of the yolk. You

go

girl. It will be fine. Promise!

Are there any groups where I can get more information about Coconut Oil? I

joined this one thinking I could find out how to use it for my health issues &

have yet to find anything helpful. Just people arguing over silly supplements

that have nothing to do with coconut oil? I have hypothryroid and

diverticulosis and am wondering how much I should supplement with and how it

should be used? In my coffee? Whatever. I haven't seen one useful post yet

and haven't really been able to find anything in the archives. Can someone at

(or, as I like to pronounce it, Ahn-DRAY-a). Nice name.

It's very true that this group has gotten way of the subject. I cook very

little (I live in a place that supplies my meals), so I just eat coconut oil

directly form a spoon. I melt it first; I don't like the mouth feel in solid

form. I keep it in the oven with the light on; I used to keep it on top of

my refrigerator, but the refrigerator died, and the new one doesn't get warm

enough on top. I have a couple of ounces a day, but you should probably

start out with a teaspoon or so, and work up from there.

,

There are tens of thousands of past posts on this list. There is only

so much one can say about coconut oil. I used to be on another

coconut oil list, but I cannot recommend that list. The list is

owned/run by a company which does not permit competing brands to be

talked about.

I suggest you go to

Coconut Oil/, and browse thru

past posts. You may also use the search function for interesting

topics. As a test, I just used advance search to look for VCO in the

subject line of posts and got a list of 2828 hits. You can then ask

questions or comment on older posts to re-open old discussion threads.

" Whatever " is the key word in your statement. You've got the right idea already.

Put it on and in everything you eat. Cook and bake with it. Put it on your skin

in a thin layer as moisturizer. There are unlimited ways to get this wonderful

oi into your diet. The only pain is heating it to pour in the cooler months, and

we have those temps more than not where I live. I tried to keep pace with my new

find as the summer turned to fall last year, but I eventually lost momentum.

But once I do not have to scoop and heat to use it, I will start back in with a

vengeance!

Dear , if you would like one on one consultation about supplementing with

coconut oil or any other supplement or if you would like expert help with your

hypothryoid and diverticulosis then I would suggest finding a qualified

Naturopathic Doctor in your area. That is where you can have the expectation

out of someone to specifically help YOU and you alone with your specific needs.

Coming to a free group and having the expectations that you do aren't

fitting. This group owes YOU nothing. These kind people share their time and

experience and get into conversations amongst themselves that yes, aren't always

directly about " coconut oil " . You have been asked to review the archives, where

there is an overwhelming amount of information written about coconut oil usages

and dosages etc. There are also books written on the subject and you might want

to go buy one of those off of Amazon.com or the like on the subject. I would

also suggest that you find a Naturopathic Doctor that that might also help you

in the area of BioIdentical Hormone Replacement Therapy as it seems you also

have some of the symptoms of Menopause.

I hope you get to feeling better.

Now see there all you new folks - all you have to do is take the plunge and ask.

And don't worry, we won't bite - at least not until you get too big for your

britches :-)

You may want to try taking some vinegar after a meal,

I have heard that some find that to be helpful with GERD...

I sip a glass of water with 2 tsp each of apple cider vinegar and raw honey with

each meal. I read about this Vermont tradition in one of Dr D C Jarvis MD books.

Not only have I not had any recurrences of GERD , I also have better energy

late in the afternoon and don't doze off like I used to. Of course we are all

different. This works for me.

Perhaps give Braggs organic cider vinegar a try...

I'm thinking there are no preservatives in it...

it is minimally processed and has the 'mother' (sediment) in it...
