I thought maybe it was the name brand Minocin that Dr. Mercola prescribed for me. When I mentioned that to him he said that the generic that I was taking by Lederle is the best to be found, and to go ahead and get back on that. Well, I am now taking the Lederle daily and the Brand Name Minocin on MWF (can't bring myself to just throw it away, at $279 a bottle). I actually think I have little fuzzies growing on my scalp, so maybe my hair's coming back. But, this doesn't do you any good since you're not on Minocin, huh? But what I'm thinking is my thyroid was messed up too, so it may have something to do with that. Hope you get some answers and some hair regrowth! Guest guest
would you share why you switched to Doxy. Were you having a setback and is the dose the same. How long were you on the Minocin before you switched. A lot of us right now are stuck and either going backwards or not progressing. Thanks. Guest guest
Hi Bev, The main reason I switched to Doxi was because of permanent grey marks that developed about 5 months into the minocin. If I would bang or cut myself , I would bruise with an ugly dark bruise and it would not fade for months. I then noticed after about three months these bruises were staying a grey color and would not fade anymore. Several wrote me that the discoloration was permanent . I have some very troublesome grey marks all over my legs now. Very noticable. It will take lazer surgery to have them removed at a handsome price! I had great success with the mincocin at first but I had begun to slip in both pain and in blood values. This was about the time the discoloration started so when I saw my rheumo he did not want me to take any more minocin as he was very unamused with the way my legs looked and told me to switch to doxi. The doxi has reacted in a TOTALLY different way as the mincoin. I never had a flare up with the mincoin except in my lungs ( and this was pretty severe). The doxi has caused a daily flare up for the past four months but has really helped with the lung problems that I was experiencing while on the minocin. I am better in many ways on the doxi. Incredible energy and health. Great sleeping and for the first time in YEARS I get up at 5:30 a.m. and I am awake and full of energy, not dragging around like I used to. I never was a morning person and now I as fuctioning like one! My mind is clearer and anxiety levels have dropped tremendously. In a strange wasy ( despite all of this pain) I feel the doxi will be the drug of choice for me in the long run as I feel it is really aggrevating the infections in the joints as where the mincocin didn't cause this flare up. I feel it is " geting down into the joints and really stirring things up " ! When I go see Dr. Franco in April I will know more. Sorry so long! healtherdible At 08:57 AM 2/27/99 -0500, you wrote: > would you share why you switched to Doxy. Were you having a setback >and is the dose the same. Guest guest
Hi , I'm glad you shared this. Now if I have to switch I won't feel so bad. The only reason I used Minocin first was because I get yeast infections from Doxy. Now I know how to keep rhe yeast down. Do you know if you need the name brand of Doxy to work like you need name brand Minocin to work? Thanks again Cooky M Carroll wrote: > > From: M Carroll <LCARROLL@...> > > Hi Bev, > The main reason I switched to Doxi was because of permanent grey marks > that developed about 5 months into the minocin. Guest guest
Hi How long had you been on minocin? I have been doing so well on it. I had a herk flare when I started then I just got better only my left wrist was slightly sore, the swelling that had been in my right knee for two years disappeared. Then this last week my right ankle has gotten really sore amd so have my wrists and my knee is bothering me again. Since I am new to this diagnosed 11/98 AP 12/98 I don't know if this is just RA's way of playing with me or the cycle of treatment or February. Guest guest
It is really annoying to have a setback because you expect to keep getting better. Someone recently mentioned February being a bad month for us and that is probably part of the equation too. I am thinking of trying Doxy if my gp will agree. No one treatment plan seems to work for everyone here does it? But I had a bad flu over Christmas and took a month to get back on my feet while everyone else in our house either never got it or had a mild episode. Maybe I'm still not fully back to where I was before the flu. I was easing off Metho at the time too, so I should try to build up my immunity. There are so many things to consider and we are all in the same boat driving by the seat of our pants. Guest guest
Hair loss is usually a hormonal imbalance thing; toxic metals cause hormonal imbalances. But some other things do too. Also aging can bring some hormonal changes that affect hair. For men, saw palmeta reverses some adverse hormonal changes and MSM helps a lot of people; but some have problem with it. bernie

Guest guest
All my endos and derms state that you need GOOD FATS for hair. Omega oils, olive oils, the good stuff. I went on a low fat diet for 18 months (eating less than 15 grams of fat per day) and little protein, and anemia. It caused some degree of permanent hair loss. Long term anorexia, low fat, protein, iron diets can cause follicular death. I was told I will get more regrowth but never be as dense as I once was. My lifestyle excellerated the process of involutionary alopecia (aging hair loss, every one gets this to a degree). I was eating better but I've been sick lately, I must eat more. The last few days I've had a bowl of cereal and juice every day, that's it. I'm going to fry and egg and eat on orange now.janeVickie <gracie17db@...> wrote: Pam: eating low fat is not a problem i face. i love food and i love fatty foods, like steak and fatty fish....Pam <nannapam3103@...> wrote: I tried a low fat diet once and after about a month my hair was coming out in huge clumps. Guest guest
Pam: Your 2 cents is worth a lot here. Thanks for sharing. I had hair loss from the same thing but had multiple surgeries(6) too and two hormone disruptions from thyroid meds and HGH, so if you get "interuptions" it's hard to regrow hair. Has your hair regrown? Hey All, check out this website www.florisene.com iron is essential to regrow hair. Guest guest
My hair came back pretty quickly after I went back to a normal diet. But, with the implants came more hair loss. I've always had thin hair, but it got to the point where I was losing a handful a day. I thought it was normal until after getting them out. Now I lose in a week what I was losing in a day! It's never been noticeable to anyone but me though, thank God. I can't imagine what you all go through. My best friend has hair loss in her family. She has beautiful hair down to her butt. She's so afraid of losing it. So far she doesn't have any signs, but her mom is nearly bald. It's so sad. Is there something she can do even if it's hereditary? Thanks! Guest guest
I agree that diets are not good for our bodies, or hair, nails etc. I try to eat good, and usually don't have any problems getting enough of things like protein, good carbs and oils. My biggest problem is a sweet tooth! hee hee, I love sugar! I just have always been a chocolate, cookie, pie kind of girl, now I just do it in moderation and when i do it I get on my spinning bike or my eliptical and ride for an hour. This week i have been really good though. We ate out at applebees and they have a new weight watchers menu, good stuff, all low calorie, I had shrimp and it was yummy! I LOVE SEAFOOD, that is my favorite! You def need to get more protien and fat in your diet. Get that virgin coconut oil by garden of life and melt it then put it in a yummy protein shake, that is the best treat! -C In , Jane Doe <oceanlilly_csu@y...> wrote: > All my endos and derms state that you need GOOD FATS for hair. Guest guest
I have experienced major hair loss, over the last 2 years. I went from hair to my waist and very thick, to almost nothing. I had to finally cut it, because all I had was broken pieces of hair. It's growing little at a time, but really don't know what was going on. At the time, I was not on any meds, hadn't been diagnosed with the RA, so No meds at all. It still falls out, some days more then others. I never found out why. I was told that the RA doesn't cause the hair loss. > > > I've been having major hair loss over the past year. Trying to > narrow down the causes. Guest guest
Mtx can cause hair loss as well. Another reason could be that you are low on B-vitatmins. It's best to talk with your doc about it. > > > > > > I've been having major hair loss over the past year. Trying to > > narrow down the causes. Guest guest
The only thing I worry about with Nioxin is the harmful chemicals in it. I try not to use any harmful chemicals at all anymore - whether it's on my body or cleaning house. I wonder if there is a natural way to promote hair growth and stop hair loss? If you detoxify your body and get your ph back to normal along with getting candida under control - I wonder if hair loss would stop? Just wondering.... Guest guest
Thanks to everyone who replied back. I'm thinking that my hair loss is probably a severe allergic reaction.
