I take 10mg of Prinivil. I have meet people in the same boat as you. With

just a little CHF you can live a pretty normal life. Did your doc mention

what your EF is or your Vo2?

Hi Turk,

Nice to talk to you. I have been on amiodarone for over 5 years and just

started having all sorts of eye problems. I have the halo's that Bob talks

about and I have dry, red, irratated, eyes. I have had my yearly eye exams for

the amio, but they continue to say it has nothing to do with the meds......go

figure. Maybe it's from the sun that bothers my skin so much. I'll have to get

out my sunglasses.

Iris,

I am so sorry that you are in so much pain right now. We all usually try to

stay a few steps ahead of the real " bad " pain, however, sometimes " it " does

catch up with us. When the " bad " stuff sets in, be good to yourself. Do

things that usually bring you enjoyment.....a favorite movie, a CD, a special

aroma candle, a book or maybe nothing at all, just quiet. A soothing bubble

bath with bubbling salts, or if you can't get into the tub, then take a nice

long hot shower with a fragrant candle burning. Make a favorite meal or have

your favorite junk food or chocolate that you save just to pamper yourself.

Unfortunately, the medical profession doesn't always have what we need to

make US feel better. They have the stuff for the structural US, but don't

have anything for the inner US. That is only something that we know.

We are all entitled to our time on the pity potty. It is part of this

disease. And you know that we serve whine and cheese here everyday with no

limit on whine! When your feet go numb from sitting on the pity potty, then

you know it is time to get off or contact your doctor. We have ALL been on

the pity potty here before and the rings in our cheeks to prove it! LOL.

The pain medication and the other medication for this disease all work their

best when your body is working along with them and is receptive to their

properties. Otherwise, the body is in chaos, you are fighting the

medications and nobody wins or gets better because it causes us less sleep

and then the whole cycle repeats itself the next day.

I run a cabana boy camp here in southern Florida. When members have been

really good or when they are in dire need of some special loving.....I send

one of my guys off and they do their magic. We are trying to make plans for

a convention in my backyard by the pool and spa where the guys can really

show you their stuff. How they fan me daily with large palm fronds, the pina

coladas, the proper application of suntan oil (with only the highest SPF),

making sure that our robes are ready for us when we exit the pool and making

sure that the bubbles in the spa are bubbling at the proper speed at the

proper temperature. They also organize activities while we are out of the

water. We play limbo at 2:00pm and then at 4:00 pm, we do the Conga Line and

then it is time for a tasty dinner. We are in the process of installing a

dunking booth for our doctors. I have a waiting list for that game already!

LOL. Now, if we are unable to assemble here in south Florida, then I am

thinking of getting a Cabana Boy bus that can pull up right in front of your

house and nurse you back to health.

You are a fairly new member and I haven't been posting too much due to some

family and physical problems. But I think today I made the turn and should

be slowly getting back to my old self! LOOK OUT EVERYBODY!!!!!!!

Oooooh, one thing I forgot. The party is a BYOM (bring your own

medication)party and all orthopedic devices need to be checked at the door.

I hope that this has brought a tiny smile to you this evening. This disease

does suck, but as the saying goes....when you get lemons, you make lemonade

with your cabana boys!!!!! LOL.

Hope you are feeling better soon, sweetie. Give us a yell if you can't sleep

tonight, I am sure one or more of us will be up!

Gentle, tender, summertime angel hugs,

Debs in FL

Everyone needs a good cry now and then - this is a

terrible illness and it is so frustrating to live

Sometimes it just overwhelms us. Believe me, I know

we have all been in that place before and will be

Hope that you are able to see a doctor soon so that he

can hopefully find some cocktail that will help you.

Iris,

Yep, you hit the nail on the head. There is a shortage of rheumatologists

nationwide. I guess not enough of an enticement for med students to go into

the field. My rheumatologist is also an immunologist, not the give the

allergy shots type, but the auto immunology part of it. Very bright young

man (pretty easy on the eyes too)....see I am always looking for ways to

enlarge my cabana boy staff! LOL!

Choose your physician, make the appointment and then ask to be put on their

cancellation list. In case someone cancels, your name is right there for the

person to call. Nothing may come of it, but then again, you never know.

Now for more important matters, never thought of a cabana boy franchise. If

Social Security continues to deny my claim, this may be my only source of

income! So I will keep you on my list!

Next time a crisis hits, just remember that we all go thru them from time to

time and you can reach out and touch one of us just by hitting the " send now "

key.

Have a good evening........hopefully pain free!

a,

I am feeling better about myself, but having a devil of a time with

adhesions. I don't want to have two surgeries back to back, but I need to

know what the ortho doc is going to do when I see him on Monday. Right now,

I am kinda existing on clear liquids and things like egg drop soup so that I

don't dehydrate while I see what this obstruction is going to do. If things

get much worse, the decision will be made for me to go to the hospital for

their intervention (IV's, NG tube and emergency surgery) Right now, though I

can somewhat tolerate the pain (actually it takes my mind of my knee) and

occasionally I can feel my GI tract move. So I am keeping my fingers

crossed.

I already have quite a line for that doctor dunking booth, may have to build

two of them so that my guests don't have to wait! LOL!

Talk to you soon.....

Dear Debs,

Is there a franchise fee on the cabana boys; I want to

start one here in Texas. Also, I am going to contact

Bros. to develop the Dunk The Doctor game; of

course you'll be credited as the inventor. All

proceeds could go for an annual cabanna boys fest.

Thanks for great advice. These are probably things I

should have thought of but wasn't in the frame of mind

to do so -- I guess that's why we have our group.

I haven't laughed out loud like that for a while - it

felt good!

Today I called 10 different Rheumy practices that had

about 40 doctors and none of them could see me until 6

weeks from now. What gives? Are there just not

enough of them around?

I seem to have passed my crises for now. I appreciate

your kindness. Wishing you laughter. Iris

Dear ,

My advice is to get on the web and research an LLMD ( " Lyme Literate MD " )

in your area. You can ask people on this board for help to find one, and

you can also go to the " Seeking a doctor " boards on the Lyme Flash

Discussion at Lymenet.org. It, BTW, is also an excellent site.

You *must* see a doctor knowledgeable ab. Lyme. As you read, you will

learn more ab. the controversy in treating Lyme: there's a camp of docs

that say you will be cured in 4 weeks of antibiotic treatment (an old,

outdated view, but one that docs have based careers and research grants

on) and the camp that knows Lyme is not that simplistic.

I can recommend a doc for you in Boston, but there are good ones in NY,

and NJ, and there must be some in CT.

You may have to pay out of pocket at first, altho many times they will

work w. patients in diff. systems.

Believe me, your health and future life depends on your getting treatment

NOW. As you research on the web, you will find lots of articles and

research studies that you can print out and take to the doc you are seeing

now (if you want to try to keep relations w. her cordial and good, and

explain why you are doing this).

Many of us have had to fire our primary care docs and entrust ourselves to

Lyme Literate docs. It is imperative for getting treatment we need.

Sometimes the PCP is interested in being educated ab. Lyme. (It's amazing

that what they are still teaching in medical schools is so medieval).

Send out the email notes for help finding a doc.

Others can fill you in more. That's my writing energy for now. :)

BTW - you may not have seen my earlier post. Did you say you're a grad

student? Me, too.

Healing to you,

Marie

You have every right to be concerned and if I were you....I WOULD NOT WAIT!

I did and ended up severely sick from lyme.....my husband nearly died and now

all 6 of my kids are chronic. Do we live IN the woods?? (as ignorant people

ask) NO.

I live in NJ, in a nice suburb of NYC.

If you call me, I can explain all. It gets to the point that to type all the

info takes forever. It is easier to talk.

Problem is that anyone that is initially bit and thinks that a few weeks of

abx will 'take care of it'......is sadly mistaken. There is NOT just lyme

(borrelia bacteria) that one has to be concerned with. At this point, we ONLY

know about lyme, babesia, ehrlichia, bartonella, mycoplasma fermentan, HHV-6

and Epstein barr--which are all co-infections (OR IN ADDITON TO) the lyme.

One MUST see a LLMD (Lyme literate dr.) and be tested and treated for all.

One month of abx will NOT cure lyme, Period.

This is from personal as well as over 7,000 people that I have communicated

with over the past 7 yrs.

Please get the correct info.

It could save your life.

Bob, I am sooooooo glad to hear from you!!! I was starting to think i was in the twilight zone and i was the only zapper not invited on some cruise...somewhere in the Mediteranean (sp?) and I have been soooo lonely.

But now i know that you all are here stuck in your homes like me and not on some exotic trip together...or God forbid....AT THE PROM!!!! with-out me!!!

Bob, that is great news about getting off the amiodarone, be sure and let us know when the Docs decide for sure..

Please take care.....

Bob you are one brave man!!! I haven't poked my nose out of my little air conditioned apartment for days!!! You know, i hate summer....i had a heat stroke when i was 13, and have never been able to handle it..and then with chf....it just is the frosting on the cake. Speaking of cake...that sounds pretty good...maybe i will cuddle next to my vents (have central air) and slice a few pieces....

Have a great day and stay as cool as you are!!

dear laura

here is what i went thru:

had tick bite and stiff neck within two days. had increasing fatique.

researched lyme and certainly developed

" lyme anxiety " .

this comes from:

horror stories of lyme illness

lack of clear treatment of lyme

and most importantly -EVERYONE SAYS TREAT IT AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE!

i got oral doxy after two weeks. did 21 days and fatigue releived

with just one worse day on fifth day of treatment. it has been 2 1/2

months since bite and i still have a " crackling " , but useable stiff

neck. i am a very sensitive person (physically), but in my case doxy

had no noticeable side effects.

since you had treatment with doxy and symptoms seemed to continue, i

would suggest that either you wait a bit and see if you improve OR

you go on another oral, like Zithromax and see the effects.

to get this, you would have to see an LLMD.

sincerely

Hi Bob,

I was just telling that it felt like ghost town.....

Be careful when they take you off the amiodarone. After a year of no problems,

the doctor's lowered my dosage with plans to stop altogether, I started having

episodes of VTach. The doctors put me right back on the original dosage and

have been there ever since. Their answer to that? " I guess you really need

that medicine huh. " So reassuring.

Hi ,

You are in the confusion of do I have it? Sounds like you do. My LLMD told

me the two orals they are having the most success with currently (with the

ticks this summer)........is Doxycycline and Ceftin.

Since the Spirochete cycles in its replication, not sure if that's the right

word........you should really be on abx for at least two cycles of the

spirochete.........and maybe even three with symptoms disappearing.

I'm just repeating my LLMD's words.

3-4 weeks for a cycle...........so that's at least six weeks to about

12weeks..........and then you have a long talk with your LLMD....to decide

what to do next...........might be done, might need another abx, might need

different testing...........etc.

Bob,

I agree, it is worth a try. I wanted so badly to get rid of the drugs, but at

least now I know it is necessary.

I kind of had the same thing happen. They were thinking of taking me off

it. I started a cardio pulmonary stress test and lasted about 30 seconds

before they stopped it. I was having couplets and triplets. The funny

thing was the doctor in training who was monitoring the test. He said it

was ok to start before my cardiologist came. It was a humbling experience

for him.

I had my dose doubled. Now I get a sunburn if I look out the window.

Janet,

I just saw your post about your having a thallium stress test. YOU

definately need to tell YOUR surgeon your concerns here about your heart

before HE does any type of surgery on you?

Can I ask what you meant by haveing a " very bad heart day " ??? Are you

talking chest pain, or what type of pain are you talking about:? Who

did order that stress test, the surgeon. and Did a cardiologist see

you?? A good surgeon will have a cardiologist do a work up on you

before you have an surgery scheduled, I would think anyhow.

Esp if you have heart problems and they do not know why? I am going

through that right now. My surgeon will NOT touch me until the

cardiologist gives the ok. That just makes good sense.

I have read some of your posts and my mind is kinda blank right now. Do

youhave high bp, irregular heart rate? anything like that?

I suggest you call your family doc, or that surgeon and ask him to get a

cardiac consult on YOU BEFORE any surgery takes place. I am not trying

to scare you but that just sounds like it should be done, and most of us

here would tell you the same thing.

That is the first thing they do IF you go to ER with chest discomfort,

Run all types of tests to rule out heart problems, because A symptoms

are just like having a heart attack. So HEART problems HAVE to be ruled

OUT before getting A taken care of.

Please get your surgeon to have a cardiologist evaluate you first.....

janers

let me know will you, even if it is at home addy

rojakort@...

i don't mean to sound like a smart ass, or bossy, just worried sometimes

that heart problems are over looked a lot. Been there and done that

too.
