Guest guest
Welcome Lee, No you are not too old. I was 46 when I had bilateral CI surgery (both at the same time) Dec. 9, 2002 and went home same day after 6 hour surgery. Hooked up Jan.9, 2003 of this year. I do not know about your insurance though but someone will answer. You came to a great place for answers so just ask whatever is on your mind. I got lots of support on the forums. Guest guest
Hello, and welcome to the group! Sounds like you've had more than your fair share of illness in the family; now it's your turn to have people help you! I'm in tx, too. Week 16--hasn't gotten better. Are you taking antidepressants? If not, you should. Looking forward to hearing from you, hugs, Suzy > Hello, > I am new to this list. I was given a blood transfusion 20 years ago > when my twins were born. Guest guest
Hi, welcome to the list! Boy, do I know the story about having your doctor neglecting your symptoms. I think a lot of us do. I contracted Hep C from a transfusion when I was a child. When my liver levels started jumping all over the map a few years ago, my doctor accused me of being a " closet alcoholic " ! Sheesh, I wonder how many doctors are out there that have such lousy diagnostic skills? Sounds like you've had a really rough few years, but maybe going through the treatment will put you on a happier path. Sure sounds like you could use some good news! I'm glad you told us about the goat farming. My grandson can only drink goat's milk, and I know he'll be happy when I tell him I " met " a lady who has a goat farm and goes to goat shows. He's 5, and been to lots of dog shows with me, so he'll understand what it's about. Best of luck to you while you're on treatment, I hope it's not too hard for you. Marilyn New to list Hello, I am new to this list. I was given a blood transfusion 20 years ago when my twins were born. I tested negative for HIV and Hepatitis in 1990 so never expected to have any problems from the blood. Recently when I changed doctors she found elevated liver enzymes and did further testing. After checking my records closer I discovered there wasn't a test for Hep C in 1990 and that I had only been tested for B. So all of this was very much a shock. I did know something was wrong but had been told by my other doctor I needed a vacation and had fybromyalgia. Everybody else in my famiy has tested negative. I have been caregiver for several family members the last few years. I lost my mother June 10th just a couple of weeks after I was diagnosed. My mother had Parkininsons, was insulin dependent diabetic, and she had severe arthritis, she also had cancer. July 2nd, 2002 we lost a family member to cirhosis of the liver. She was diagnosed just 3 weeks before she passed away and I was her caregiver also. My husband is diabetic and has had some heart trouble. The last few years have been very difficult. I am in the 6th week of treatment. I feel horrible, I am staying very tired. I farm and attend dairy goat shows even though they wear me down I seem to feel better at the goat shows. I think it is being able to laugh and enjoy friendships at the shows. No, goat milk won't cure you but it is healthy to drink. Guest guest
The doctor wouldn't give me the treatment unless I started antidepressant first. Actually I'm seeing a physicians Assistant, the doctor writes letters with instructions I haven't even met him. I have been looking at various sites and reading everything I can but so far everything looks right in my care so at least with the letters I can read over it more than once and don't forget what I am being told. A serious disease and haven't even seen the doctor once, you need a sense of humor at times. He is local if I go to somebody different I will have to drive 2 to 4 hours. I find I get too hot very easily I don't know if it is the medication or what. We have been going to State Fair shows in air conditioned buildings. I wish my barn was air conditioned. I feel better when I am at the shows. I do a large amount of walking, get plenty of exercise but it is all in air conditioned buildings where I don't get too hot. I keep a water bottle with me every place I go and sip it all day and night. I also sit and rest between activities and probably get more rest at the fairs. First night I kept the goats up all night going to bathroom and everyone else but second night the goats were adjusted to me or so tired they didn't care. I never pictured myself sleeping in a barn full of goats when I was younger but we are having a great time and enjoy the company of the other breeders. My daughter won several ribbons and was given help from others teaching her showmanship skills and letting her show their goats. My trailer came loose in Nashville and a young man stopped to help get it hooked up right, I am weak and just couldn't get it fastened on the ball right. We get a large amount of people laughing and waving when they pass us with our 1940 model trailer loaded with goats. We hear so many bad things on the news that it is very depressing but I find there is a great deal of support and many nice people in this country. S. Guest guest
Hi, Funny Farmer! I love your tale of goats and tents and country life. I guess all that makes no difference, huh, 'cos here I sit in foggy San Francisco, and I'm burning up. As soon as I exert myself in any way, like walking through the apt, I break out in a sweat. It's very annoying. It'll get worse from tx...hahaha. Good that you're getting the antidepressants first. Sounds like you are well-taken care of medically. Hang in there and stay airconditioned as much as you can stand it. Guest guest
Hi, I am new to the list. I am a 41 year old mother to a two year old girl. I stopped vacinating her after her 3 mo check up. At that point I was more terrified of the vaccines than of the diseases. At this point she has never been ill. We have not been to a Dr. since them and are looking for a good natural Dr. in the Atlanta area so that we can be ready if she ever does get sick. We eat very healthy. Pasture raised eggs/chickens/ducks, pastured beef, raw dairy, fresh fruits and veggies, fermented veggies, and no processed food and very little grains. I am hoping to learn alot form this list. Guest guest
Welcome to the group Marie! I too have at least 150lbs to lose, not quite 200 anymore. I would also be happy with another 100lbs gone. I've been taking it 10lbs at a time, slowly without any long term goals. I don't set a date to my goals so I don't geel like a failure if I don't meet my goal. How are you doing so far with day 2? It is day 1 all over again for me. Yesterday just didn't work out like I had planned... or should I say not planned. Too many things going on and not enough hours in the day as usual. I'm married mom to 3 little girls Miranda (7.5) Meredith (6) and Emma (3), I live in Michigan on a crop farm with some woods and pleanty of wild life. a
Guest guest
Welcome, Marie! >I need to lose 150 pounds but will settle for 100 for now. Officially it's about 130 for me, but I'll be happy to lose just another 40 to bring me back to 220, the weight I spent most of my adult life at pre-child (20 years ago). I need support since I only have two gals on > internet who will do this with me. You now have another 100+ gals on your side. Our list has 119 or so members, but too many of them are lurkers. > I started on WW yesterday and made it thru day " 1 " . Congrats! Good luck using those Points wisely. Now, for me, it will > get harder since I never make it thru day " 2 " . Planning is the key here. When you have a few minutes, sit down with your WW booklets and a list of favorite recipes and make out a menu of dinners for the next week and figure out how many points you'll use on each one. Be honest with yourself now - if you know you're going to eat a full cup of mashed potatoes and your points are per half cup, be sure to count them all. As soon as your dinners are set, now work on breakfast and lunches. You may like to eat the same thing each day, or you might prefer something different so you're not bored. Work it out on paper with your points. Now, you should have a few points left over. If you know you get hungry between meals, use those points to now plan your snacks. Write it all down. Be sure to use *all* your points - don't think that by using less you're doing yourself a favor. All you'll do is deprive yourself, and too few calories can send your body into starvation mode and cause you to *gain* weight in time. Alright. You now have your meals planned for the next few days, or maybe only one day to start. Now look in your pantry and refrigerator and see if you *have* all the foods you need. If not, make out your shopping list and go purchase what you need. This way there will be no excuses to go off-plan, to grab a fast food burger instead of the healthier meal you had planned. You *can* do it. You can easily stick to your food plan, count up those points, and count down those pounds. It just takes a little bit of planning and determination. Be sure to stop by our web site at the Links and Files. We also have a load of recipes in the Files section, but not too many have WW points listed, just the regular nutritional info and FoodMover exchanges. I'm sure someone here can help you convert them to Points if you ask. Sue in NJ

Guest guest
Hi Marge, Welcome to the list. I am a 16 year user of the CI and treasure every moment with my CI. I am from Michigan, so am not familiar with the Colorado centers, but I am open to any questions you may have along your journey towards a CI. I have gotten really good results from my CI, using the telephone relatively easily, and enjoy talking with people and listening to music. Cheers, Ruth New To List Hi, I am new to your group. I grew up with some hearing loss but it was not until a year ago that I suddenly and without any warning lost it while I was sleeping. It was very scary and I've had a very difficult time adapting to this. Recently, a friend told me about cochlear implants and I found your group. I'm anxious to learn more because maybe there's a chance I can hear again. I live near Durango, Colorado. Does anyone on this list live in this area? If so, do you have a good doctor who you can recommend?
