with SI joint pain, sitting usually makes it much worse, so there has to be

something else going on.

Just because they dont see much in the MRI, doesnt mean that something isnt

happening.

You need to pursue with a specialist. A Physiatrist, or a good Osteopathic MD.

Hello everyone

Thankyou for the warm wellcome..

I have a pain in my right buttocks...After 5 months of this..I can no

longer walk ..I have had an MRI, EMG, X-ray of the hips..The spine

doctor can`t diagnose what the problem is..Before this happened to me

I was very active..I can`t do anything anymore..All I can do is swim!

I take somas to sleep..(can`t risk bending the wrong way in my

sleep.ouch)..I can`t take pain killers because they constipate me so

bad.

When I get up after the second hour .I am down ..I can`t bend over..I

am 59 now,,,I looked at my MRI..The Doc did say It could be my

Sacraliliac joint...All I know is I can`t put any pressure on my right

side..I can`t walk..and since this my pelvic gait is changing I look

in the mirror and i see a lop-sided body..

I feel like nothing these days..Can`t even prepare dinner or walk my

dog..I have a board in my car to sit on..Because sitting is the only

thing that takes the pain away!

Have you tried seeing a Cranial Sacral Therapist (CST) and/or a

Rolfer? Muscles can pinch nerves and cause this kind of pain. If the

problem isn't structural, it my be in the way you are moving. A

rolfer can realign you (warning, this isn't pleasant and takes more

than one visit but it works for many people). I get a similar pain

and my CST usually manages to help me get rid of it. That said, I've

had something going on with my outer buttock/hip for months now that

she and I are dumbfounded by. I may need a rolfer myself!

How do you find a CST or Rolfer? What does Rolfer mean? I start work hardening

therapy tomorrow and maybe I can discuss this with them.

Thanks,

To all in this group,

Is there anything about our bodies that does not freaking hurt, anyone? Is

anyone in this group that is not taking some sort of narcotic pain reliever. By

all means please speak up. For me I have actually been checking into

voluntarily becoming paralyzed from the neck down because of the ongoing high

levels of pain.

oh man that is a huge decision... I share your hate of the pain but I can

not imagine not having at least some mobility. I am not sure that is a path you

really want to go down..

That is really not a lot of meds.. If you are not getting the pain relief

you need from this doctor you should look around. Although no doctor will

prescribe the level needed to cover your worst days you should at least be

getting

what you need to have some quality of life.

I had a similar situation.  My back was injured from a fall but that same l5-s1

area bugged me for years.  Two surgeries brought me outta some pain but I had

trouble still.  I even dragged around my foot.  I met Dr. Stark in Minneapolis

and he is a miracle worker.  He fixed me with an A/P fusion.  I can pick my foot

up and walk normal with no pain at all from my back short of lil twinges once in

a great while I am doing better than I have ever.

He told me that alot of this type of thing gets misdiagnosed.  If you haven't

had it fused, do not be scared of it.  It's no harder than any other back

surgery but worth the outcome.

The other thing is ask about the A/P fusion.  It is this cage like thing he

used.

I wish you luck, I know these things are hard.

Hi my name is Dave. I'm a moderator here. If you go to our group

home page. Then click on files, then neck and back pain stories,

then Dave's story you'll see I suffer from similar issues, though I

am now quite a bit older at 49. You can try clicking here:

neck pain/files/Neck%20%26%20Back%\

20Pain%20Stories/

I had several injuries that ended up in a failed back surgery around

1983 at age 22. Then a very good fusion at Jefferson Hospital

in 1987 at age 26. That lasted 13 years. Then a re-injury Jan 5th

2000. In May of 2000 at age 39 they removed the old hardware, added

new and fused an additional level. This was somewhat successful. Then

a failed neck surgery / fusion in December of 2000. The removed some

bone spurs, opened up the area for the spinal cord to travel and I

woke up in much more pain than when I went into the OR. I've been in

chronic pain ever since. Had to close my business in 2005 which I

loved and was awarded disability in July 2007. Right now tonight I

have gnawing pain under my right shoulder and in my thoracic region

of about a 7-8. I blame it on the rain/colder weather. I've also

been sleep deprived for about the past two weeks.

Bottom line, you came to the right place. Plenty of sympathetic

Hi Dave,

I noticed you said you have thoracic pain...do you or have you been

diagnosed with thoracic outlet syndrome? The PT guy I'm going to now (just

started last Friday) thinks I have that on both sides and/or CRPS (which I

hope I DON'T have!). Moving slowly at PT. I've only been three times and one

was an assessment for my neck area and the next was treatment and assessment

for my lower back. I have to say this guy did the most thorough exam so

far...more thorough than ALL the docs combined! PT has made my ears ring

again...today really loud! My shoulders, arms, and hands hurt a LOT. So much

that it's hard to type and work on the computer; which is what I do for a

living. They have me using a fancy traction machine for my neck. If it helps

with the headaches, he says he will write to the doc and insurance to get me

one of my own. It has helped with the headaches but made my neck and

shoulders, arms, and hands worse. There is a PT intern that has been doing

some assessment and he thinks my lower back and hip pain is from a tight IT

band. Problem is...the lower back pain is from POST accident. The outer hip

pain is likely from the tight IT band, but I also have hip joint pain,

popping, and catching. They don't want to bring in the hip and knee stuff

unless it's related to the car accident, so those will be either unofficial

or dealt with later. I probably need to push a little more for the reason my

lower back hurts. He did say I was too flexible and my joints are loose

which will cause problems. Even when I was working out I still had that

problem but didn't have lower back pain until after we got hit last October.

If this accident that you had was not your fault you need to see a lawyer

to specializes in accidental insurance issues.. Money is the least thing you

should have to worry about to get back to a sate of relative health..

Hey i have had this. REALLY! I'm not kidding. My chiro fixes thoracic outlet in

a few visits. We have even talked about it, because of you. I told him about

you. theres no reason a good chiro cant fix this fast. Seriously. I couldnt move

my arm. fixed in two visits. Then it did take about three weeks for it to

totally feel perfect. It imediately felt better and then low grade pain slowly it

left all together.

Occasionally it comes back. Like once a year, and he fixes it again. gone.

really. I remember you had a chiro, cant he fix it? Its not that tricky a

Thanks Tom. We did have to hire a lawyer. He does a lot of accidents as well

as SSDI stuff along with the criminal law etc. He's very good. Hubby knows

him. It's too bad because we were not at fault at all. She rear ended us

while we were stopped at a red light. Its not really the driver causing the

problem, it's the insurance Co. She has the same company as we do, so they

just don't want to pay either way. Her car was completely fixed before they

even came out to look at our car and they balked at the measly $480 price to

fix it. I drive a Jeep with a major bumper!

Plenty of sympathetic

listeners here who can relate. Welcome, Dave Reading, PA

I do have a chiro but the adjustments began to make my pain worse. He did

see me when I had that swollen hand thing, which he felt could have been

caused by the thoracic outlet syndrome. He did a couple adjustments and

since the pain was worse we decided to stop for now.
