And I thought mine was coming back white because of my vitiligo (skin disease that kills pigment). We really are the tx twins!

Several of the members in these two groups had asked me to let them know the results of my recent biopsy..... wish i had better things to report....I'm sure I am in the middle of a mood swing but not too dang sure which end of that swing I'm on.

Anyway here are the results

Ductal carcinoma in-situ (high grade, cribriform with focal necrosis and calcification)

cancer, yes..early stages yes (that's a good thing) but they could not rule out invasive mucinous carcinoma. I don't understand most of this pathology report that I finally received today but I do know I need more surgery and radiation.

Question: does anyone in this group with an ICD know anything about radiation and how it might affect my device or if I can have it at all? or will my ICD have to be turned off during these weeks of radiation therapy. I would really and truely appreciate any advice or passed on knowledge regarding this.

Am i scared? hell yes!! but in five minutes I'll be fine and thinking positive again (laughing)

Thanks in advance for any help, suggestions or guidace you can give me. in fact maybe Guidant could advise me .hmmmm, now why hadn't I thought of that earlier? cuz my head has been up my ass no doubt since I went to the doctor and got this news today.

Take care all,

Debbie in Calif

Your concern regarding irradiation and ICDs is a real one only if the radiation

field of

treatment includes the area of the ICD, which for most devices would be treating

breast

cancer. Most therapies involve treating the tumor bed with 70 Gy of radiation.

The ICD can

tolerate up to 10 Gy in comparison. The options would be to temporarily remove

the ICD

or to shield the area to reduce the exposure. Under those circumstances the

device needs

to be continuously monitored.

Best to you

Sounds like a stage 4 and a grade 4 , with the cirrohsis as a grade 1 maybe ?

Biopsy results

Hey Gang & Connie, Just got back from the doctor's office. She kept me waiting almost an hour & that's not like her but she did have the results.

The Final Diagnosis

Liver Biopsy consistent with cirrhosis

Microscopic examination

specimen comprises several small fragments of liver tissue including a very fibrotic portal area. The bile ducts embedded in the fibrous tissue appear normal & there is mild portal chronic inflammation. There is mild steatosis within the nodules of hepatocytes. Iron stain negative. Appearances are consistent with cirrhosis.

They never say Grade whatever Stage whatever to me. Anybody know how to classify this?

I see Dr Idiot as I call him on October 13 - we'll see what happens then. I do expect to pin him on one or two things. There's no cancer, even though my alfafetaprotein is always high, I get an ultra sound about twice a year & they've always been normal. I think it comes out as Stage 4 grade 3. Anyone else got an idea.

Tori,

Sorry about your dx but at least you know what it is. I have been on prednisone

for 7 years from 5mg to 60. I don't know if you have ever taken it but a few

things I have learned: I ate everything that wasn't nailed down so be sure to

have healthy snacks around! I got really moody. TAKE the prilosec every day.

It really does help. I used to take all 60 in the morning. I found that if I

spaced them out through the day, I didn't sleep as well. Make sure that it OK

with your doctor. I also got sweats at night from it. But, remember prednisone

is a love/hate drug. It will most likely help you but the side effects aren't

always nice. If you want to talk to me privately, feel free to email me.

OH, most importantly, never ever quit prednisone cold turkey. Once you have

been on it for a significant amount of time, your body quits producing the 10mg

steroids a day. If you quit taking it cold turkey you could have adrenal gland

failure and there can be dire consequences. This is what I have been told and

found during research but, always check with your doctor to verify things. I am

not a doctor-and I don't play one on TV! : )

Hi Tori, with the prednisone, we were able to minimumize alyssa's weight

gain and puffiness from the pred. by having her on a no salt diet and she

was also restricted on her protein so she tended to eat more starches and

fruits and vegies but t was the starches that were the hardest because she

craved them. Good luck, Ruth

Awww Steve,, having geno 2 is good! (if there is anything good about having hep c) Its much easier to treat and has a much higher success rate with tx. You said high viral load,, how high? Most consider it to be high if over 2 million. You would stand a good chance of putting this virus into remission if you treat now, before you get a lot of damage. You would only have to treat for 24 weeks instead of 48 weeks, and IF your doc is willing to treat all your side effects,, you could effectively put this virus into remission,, its a good shot you have!!! Let us know what the doc has to say.. we are here for ya hon! hugs, jaxchicagosteve658 <chicagosteve658@...> wrote: I finally got the results of my biopsy and bloodwork after a week of waiting; No cirrosis,genotype2B

lucky you. you'll end up on 24 weeks as opposed to 48 on peginterferon

& ribavirin. I'll bet you clear, too.

make sure your act is clean now (like quitting smoking or any alcohol

consumption, put some weight on, get a shrink lined up (you'll need

one) and if you are prone to depression, start on some

anti-depressants before tx.

just my 2¢

Gail,

You speak with such wisdom, and no doubt you are right. I have to make some changes when it comes to my daughter as she is truly dependant on me - and I think I finally realized just how much when you wrote it down for me - for this I thank-you.

I know I must find a way to let go and let her live her life and make her own decisions. It is so hard when my grandkids are involved.

However this I will work on.

And as far as you smoking - I have no room to talk or lecture you for that matter, as I am still smoking. That is just not something I can give up right now, I have given up everything else in my life.

Besides, I don't think anyone could stand to be around me, I am bad enough on the TX. LOL

I will be praying for you Gail and will definetly keep you all updated as I move along. I could never do it without you all - this group is my rock....

I luv ya guys..

May God bless you all

Marie

-- Re: Biopsy results

I hope things will go well for you.I started back smoking again yesterday.I quit for five months and could have stayed off them but I have put on 22 pounds and keep gaining. At least with cigarettes I don't eat all the time.Everything went out of wack.My good and bad collesteral was way out of hand.I figured it was healthier to smoke cause I do not like the way I am right now.I had to quit my job because the boss was giving me such a hard time.Tomorrow is my last day of work, well actually Saturday afternoon. Then I go to see my daughter July 10-21 and when I get back I will have to get a job again

Glad to hear about your liver biopsy and sorry to hear about your mom.If you want to be around you have to take care of yourself.Write your mom letters, the nurses will read them to her and explain what is happening.Or phone her every couple of wks.You will have to talk to your daughter about treatment and that your stress level has to be reduced or you will get worse faster.Yes she is your daughter and she needs someone to talk to but do not make her dependent on you.She has to be able to stand tall on her own and she just needs someone to listen. You want her to be strong if she is going to be a single mother. You need to get your life in order so you can have a life with your family.

Now don't anyone give me a hard time about smoking again cause I am doing what is best for me.I am just going to try to keep it down.Take care hon and keep in touch when you can.Definately let us know when you start treatment and really stay in touch with us then.

Biopsy results

Good Morning

Howdy Gang,

Well this has been a very long and trying month. I finally got my biopsy results - remember I told ya all that in march I had a biopsy test done while ill with mono. I finally got into a specialist here in Kansas, and had another biopsy on Monday and they called yesterday to tell me that I am still stage 1 - Woohoo, what a relief, and grade 3. I was grade 2 4 years ago when I first found out. I was so elated, and on my knees praising the good Lord.

I still have to start treatment, but at least I am not looking at a possible transplant within a year or so as first suspected in March of this year.

I am so blessed and God has definitely had mercy on me.

On another note, my Mother fell Saturday and broke her hip and 4 places and had to have a total hip replacement. I couldn't go out to see her as I had to get the biopsy on Monday. For the first time in many, many years, I had to put me first. I found this very difficult to do.

I think I am preparing myself for the worst, as my Mother has been very sedentary for the last year or so. She has gained probably 30 to 40 lbs in the last 6 months and she is 5 ft tall, and now weighs over 230 lbs, still chains the cigs, no oxygen, COPD, emphysema, congestive heart failure - her lungs are so full and can barely breath as it is, I assume she will probably get pneumonia.

All I can do now is pray for her, I do realize she is at the point she wants to die, and has for some time now, however, it doesn't make loosing her any easier.

I have been so swamped with my daughter and grandkids. She is still going through a divorce, and a rough one at that. And is consuming me and my time. That is why I haven't been online lately. That has got to change once I start treatment, as I know that I will not be able to keep this routine up.

Please update me everyone - has anyone heard from Liz? I hope and pray she is doing okay?

Well Deb, De, Suzie, Gail, Del, and the rest the group, please let me know how you all are, and I will be back on line soon.

I am leaving for a few days over the fourth of July but will be back next week, probably wed.

Take care of yourselves and each other

May God continue to bless you and yours...

Love, hugs and prayers

Marie

Hi ...it's nice to hear from you! You sound like your doing well considering the battles that are all around you. I think you have a realistic approach about your mother...It is hard to accept but our passing on is as natural of a thing as being born. Full Circle. It seems so common that older folks fall getting in and out of bed and break their hips. Same story as my Grand mother and Aunt. Good news about the BX and it sounds like your diggin' in, getting ready for TX. Call if there is anything I can do. (short of injecting myself heh...heh...) OH!! My mother lives in Andover, I think not too far from you.Talk with you later.. Del Davies <lisamariedavies@...> wrote: Good

Well Deb, De, Suzie, Gail, Del, and the rest the group, please let me know how you all are, and I will be back on line

soon. I am leaving for a few days over the fourth of July but will be back next week, probably wed. Take care of yourselves and each other May God continue to bless you and yours... Love, hugs and prayers By Gods Grace Only, Marie

Listen hon your daughter is old enough to be a friend now.She is going to want your advice and give it to her,but she is going to screw up cause we all are individuals and take in all the information, sort it out to fit our personalities. She has to stand on her own but she will need that sounding board.Make her feel important by saying listen hon,I love you dearly.I can't help you with money,or babysit all the time cause I got to get better so that I can be around long enough to enjoy my time with you.I raised my girls to stand on their own cause I became a single mother and had to panic and was scared but had to hide it from the kids cause they would panic if I got upset.I went to a councelling group through Social Services and got a lot of helpful ideas and strength. That is what your daughter needs now especially with a divorce is to see about free councelling.Take care hon.

Del,

So good to hear from you to. I know we lost touch for awhile, however you never left my thoughts and prayers. You will have to catch me up as to what is going on with you - last I remember you were just getting out of the hospital, when Bayla had gone down and taken care of you.

I hope and pray everything is going well - you sound great. I don't know if I still have your numbers, as a lot of things got lost or misplaced in the move.

Yes, I am getting prepared to start treatment, I guess as prepared as one can be. I remember when I was getting ready to start the first time and was so ready - funny how one round of treatment changes all that.... LOL

I am so dreading it, as I remember just how sick I was most of the time. However, I know that I have been oh so blessed and I must do this.

I am staying in Liberal and am so worried about my kids seeing me while on treatment, and my ex-husband, the one that I cared for while he was ill with cancer, well I am staying in his large home, and have been since I returned. I help out allot - mowing, taking care of his rentals, painting, a little bit of everything, as he is still weak and doesn't manage to well. He can't bend without getting extremely off balance, as the chemo shrunk the cerabellum in his brain and it never returned. He manages okay for himself, but I worry about trying to do it here with him, as I know he is going to be so little help.

Then I have the one daughter that I am trying to wean away from myself, and her needs consuming me, and one daughter off to college in Arlington at UT. And then my son starts college here in the fall. Kids have their own lives, and friends and having fun are far more important than their parents.

But I am going to try, and see how it goes. That is really all I can do, and keep my faith in the Good Lord, knowing he will see me though this - and my on-line friends... I luv ya guys.

Enough for now -

Here is my new phone number 620-626-8051

Call if you feel up to it...

May God Bless all of you and yours

Love, hugs, and prayers

(short of injecting myself heh...heh...)

OH!! My mother lives in Andover, I think not too far from you.Talk with you later..
