Thank you so much! My boyfriend has two boys, 8 and 9 years old and they stay

with us every weekend and for that I am blessed. We all get along great with

the ex girlfriend and her new fiance too.

I've been on Lexapro for about 6 weeks now, and I'm noticing my winter

clothes are not fitting me nearly as well as last year!! They are much

bigger. I can only really almost fit into one that was too small last

year! I notice I don't have as much of " carbohydrate craving " on Lexapro

as I did on Celexa. I really need to step on the scale and see just how

much I've lost. I really feel positive about this! I may have worse PMS

and worse anxiety, but the pounds seem to be shedding!

Hi Jolene,

I have not. In fact, throughout my first month or more on it, I had a

seriously decreased appetite and lost about 7 pounds. While my

appetite seems to be back to normal now, I have not gained any back,

and I've been on it over 2 months now.

I've heard of people both gaining and losing on it.

--Hi, guaranteed its from the depakote. That's one of the big

sides. You might want to switch to Tegretol, no weight gain with

that.

the past 2 weeks. I can't decipher whether the weight gain is from

the lexapro, the depakote or from the fact that I have been a body

builder for some time but was in a car accident on my way to the

psych hosp and couldn't work out for 4 months. The weight gain could

be a combination of things and I just can't point my finger on the

lexapro. I am currently back to work and back to the gym so we'll

see if I can't drop the weight. I am also very tired these days

trying to work, go to the gym, then to an AA meeting while being on

meds. It is quite a challenge.

Try writing down what you eat and how much you exercise. Maybe you are not correctly accounting for what you eat. I have done that before while I was losing the 110 lbs. I would underestimate my food consumption. You have to exercise too. Suz

HI Kim! Welcome! I wanted to say that previously when I was on celexa, I gained over 35lbs. Talk about a drag!! Since I started the lexapro, and stopped celexa, I have actually lost about 5 pounds, plus, my appetite has really decreased! On celexa, if it wasnt literally nailed down I was eating it! So, for me, the lexapro is actually helping me to lose weight b/c of the decreased appetite. So maybe in your case it is a comination of everything. Everybody responds differently to drugs, so you'll probobly have to wait ubtill you level off before you can tell if it's the lexapro or something else. Good luck to you, I know how hard it is to lose weight gained from taking ad's!

Isn't lithium prescribed mainly for people who's bipolar focus' more on depression? I have heard that lithium can also slow you down. Depakote is actually a pretty good drug to take if your bipolar is mixed or you have more manic or hypomanic episodes.

P.S. How are your toxicity levels?

,

Thank you for that info. I didn't know there was that particular diff between

lithium and depakote. I do know that my Doc has me on the depakote opposed to

the lithium in case I get pregnant. Depakote is supposed to safer and easier to

reduce the dosage if pregnancy should occur.

I think I am more depressed with some manic episodes because I like the

mania....

I have not had a toxicity test done yet as I was just put on the Depakote last

August. I don't know how long they wait to do that test though. I see my Doc

tonight after work so I will ask him.

Thanks for the lithium info!!! I really appreaciate it!

I have gained about 10lbs since being on lex. But compared to the

weight gain I suffered when on paxil,50 lbs in the first 6 months,

this isn't too bad.

I had my surgery on 10/16/02. I had lost 96 lbs up to 4 wks ago, and have

stopped.I am down to 186 which is great, but want down to at least 140-150. I

havent changed my diet, but am hopeful that one day it will magically start

moving again, but Im beginning to have my doubts.

, I went from 304 to 211 in 7 months. Then I stopped dead for quite a few

months. I thought that was where I was going to stay. At about a year out, I

lost slowly but gradually the scale moved down. I was still losing at two years

out and am down to 164-167 depending on what time of day I weigh myself. You

may still lose. Weight loss surgery only promises 50-80% of our excess. In my

head, I figured that what I wanted had been fulfilled. Then when I continued to

lose even after my second anniversary, I was thrilled. I've been at goal for

about 9 months now.

Jan,

Hang in there, you'll keep losing. You've lost 71 pounds in 7

months - that's great. Your body is trying to adjust to the weight

loss. Our starting weights are close.

My diet never changed except I eat less at one sitting and eat more

often. I eat everything. I lost 80 lbs. in the 1st year, 20 in the

2nd year, and 12 in this 3rd year. Had many plateaus along the way

and never dreamed I'd ever get to 199 lbs, let alone the 130's.

Oh, what a joy (and gift) this MGB has been!

Hi, This is Cheryl. I had my MGB on 10/23/02. I noticed at about 6 months I

would have slight fluctuations with weight throughout the week. Up a pound or 2

down a pound or 2. SO, at that point I decided to stop weighing 1 or 2 times

a week and only weigh 1 time a month. OK, this is tough to do. I walk by a

scale at work everyday. But, I figured hey, why the pressure? It just isn't that

big a deal. I will continue to lose this excess weight because I'm doing what

I am supposed to do. My body will do things on its own schedule making the

necessary adjustments when needed. The only pain is when folks constantly ask me

" How much is it now? " Now I just say ask me again in a few weeks or whatever.

Yeah I am eager to lose weight and lord knows I don't want to gain but I know

from a month to month perspective I will lose weight between each weighing.

Take care everyone.

Hi Cheyl and fellow MGBers -- I totally agree with Cherly about the

weighing issue. I am constantly being asked by people about how much I've

lost NOW and I just tell them the approximate amount. I don't weigh every

week even because my weight will fluctuate due to my monthly cycles. I weigh

about every 2-3 weeks. I am going more with the way my clothes fit than

anything. Just thought I would throw my 2 cents in the mix -- Take Care

Nina -

My name is Luke. I just joined this group because I have been on

Lexapro for about a year (maybe nine months) and I have gained about

20 pounds. I have been eating better and exercising more than I

used to and I can't seem to do anything to take off the weight. I

have searched high and low for internet resources that link weight

gain to Lexapro and haven't had any luck finding anything.

Just wanted to let you know that I am in the same boat and trying to

figure out if it is directly related to Lexapro.

I think it is due to lexapro.... I have gained weight as well and am

pretty in tune with how I gain/lose weight. I am in very good

shape. Lexapro helped me to not eat candy and drink beer to medicate

myself Now, I eat very healthy. I am very educated in how to eat

having worked with a nutritionalist in the past and very aware of how

to exercise. I am eating super healthy and exercising... but now

heavier than I was while eating candy and drinking beer!!! Anyone

would be kind of bummed with that. And I am single and want to be in

super shape to feel better about dating. Now I don't feel like going

out cause I am a bit chubby...
