The reason the doctor wants to put you on stronger or different meds than prednisone is too stop the damage to your joints that the RA did to your knee you had to have replaced. There is a class of drugs called disease modifying rheumatoid drugsor dmards. They suppress the immune system like prednisone and keep the RA from destroying your joints and body organs. All of us would like to take a supplement like a vitamin that would do this but there are none out there that do the job. Many companies and people swear up and down that their product will stop RA but they do not. Almost all of us with RA are on drugs such as methotrexate, enbrel, arava, imuran, cytoxan etc besides steroids and non steroid anti inflamatory drugs. If you need some help to figure this out their are on line support groups on aol, and live support groups through the arthritis foundation too. Your local arthritis foundation has lots of people that help. Your rheumatologist or family doctor can help you get in contact with the local arthritis foundation. Thanks for the link Karl. I use a laptop with a normal keyboard. Wrote my

novel on it, so I can attest to the usability. :-) I wouldn't give up my

laptop because the screen is so much better than a monitor. I don't get a

headache after four hours of use like a monitor, and can work for over 8

hours. I also use an external mouse.

Hope things pick up soon Evie. I've suffered from asthma for three decades

and the hypochondriac thing is the pits. Sometimes I even convince myself

I'm a hypochondriac and stop taking my medication and then fall into a big,

dangerous heap! Don't believe that garbage, ever. People have a lot of

trouble understanding things they can't see with their eyes. My extended

family still don't understand the overall effects of asthma and allergies

on my life, and how it restricts me in what I can and can't do. They also

think something is wrong me cos I seem to be sick all the time with

colds... like I should be doing something to get better, like take a pill

or get fit. :-)

I stopped telling people after a while. I have to admit this while lasted

at least 10 years.... I feel much better lying every time anyone asks me

'how are yo?' :-)
