Guest guest
Robyn, thanks for letting 's achalasia family know how she is doing. It is great to hear that she went through the surgery well. Her 'ectomy sisters I know are especially interested in her progress. We care, but of course she knows that. Maggie Alabama See what's new at AOL.com and Make AOL Your Homepage. Guest guest
Hi , About one year ago, I have seven disk fused in my back. the incision went from just underneath my bra line to the bottom of my spine. The percocet that they gave me really did control the pain. for the first week I kept getting stuck in various positions that I needed help getting out of. After that things went along pretty good. By the end of the first month I was able to got shopping and get some exercise with only minimal amounts of pain. Everyone is different and every surgery is different. Good luck to your daughter. Guest guest
Of course she's still in a lot of pain. Back surgery is the hardest surgery to recover from and the most painful because so many nerves are involved. She'll get better everyday. But it'll take awhile. Guest guest
She shouldn't be in that much pain. She needs more pain medicine. And, while this pain is normal, it's not normal that she has to suffer like that. lj From: <karendave56@...> Subject: 's Surgery Scoliosis Treatment Date: Tuesday, September 30, 2008, 11:01 PM Hello all we are now home Good to be home but a little nerve racking to. Guest guest
Belive it or not, 5 days is the norm.. My first surgery in 1996, I only stayed 5 days and my curve was 85 degrees. They made me get up the day after the surgery. I really did think and still do that it was way too much too soon but that's the way it is now. I whole hearted agree that you should be in at least a week or even 10 days. Nobody knows what that surgery is like unless you go through it yourself. It's only a last resort in my opinion. Hope your daughter gets well soon but it does take awhile. She has to be very careful. She will learn very quickly that she has to do things different now. She will learn to bend over at the top of her legs to reach the sink or brush her teeth for one thing. I still don't like to squat but that's the way it is now or I get a sharp pain if I even try to bend over any other way. If she doesn't already have one, she needs a what I call a grabber. It helps so much in picking up things or for things you have to reach up for. They should have given her that and a cane in the hospital to help her along. Sorry didn't mean to put so much but I was having a good memory day. I don't have those very often.lol God Bless you, Dereise.............. > > From: <karendave56> > Subject: 's Surgery > Scoliosis Treatment > Date: Tuesday, September 30, 2008, 11:01 PM > > Hello all we are now home Good to be home but a little nerve > racking to. Guest guest
It seems as though  patients are discharged from the hospital as soon as they get off of IV pain medication.  It should be ok at home if there is adequate pain medication prescribed and plenty of TLC or so has been the experience with my son who's had 2 surgeries at 16 and 19 years old. Guest guest
Hi ,  I know this is almost a month later from your post but I haven't been online much. My son's surgery, with similar degree curve, was done on May 5th and today he is pain free. It took him about two months and then he had periodic pain of a lesser degree more like a few minutes getting up in the morning or if he sat for along time, then no pain and then he got a virus last month with vomiting and had some pain from use of different muscles for about two weeks off and on. Today he is pain free.  Wishing you the best, Gail  From: Randie Meyer <taknitlite@...> Subject: Re: 's Surgery Scoliosis Treatment Date: Wednesday, October 1, 2008, 10:54 PM Of course she's still in a lot of pain. They only had to go into the back. they didn't have to go to the battery..She is home and having awesome pain control to her feet and legs.. She is very excited that things are looking up.. I hope everyone is having a low pain evening !!!! Soft hugs T group moderator lisa
