Guest guest
Without tramadol I wouldn't be able to function. Sometimes I have to take it before I even get out of bed due to stiffness and hurting all over. I can't take more than two doses of two pills per day. Taking a third dose makes me very nauseous and a fourth makes me vomit. To be honest though I rarely need more than two doses. If I'm hurting at bedtime I take one Vicodin so I can sleep. Got my SSDI approval on the first try - they owe me a year's worth of payments and the first thing I'm doing is getting a new bed. Going to try the Tempurpedic type mattress which a Bob's Discount Furniture has a generic form of - Tempurpedic costs about $2300, Bob's sells the same thing for $999. Their ads are atrocious, but their furniture is very good and much less expensive than everyone else. Hopefully that will help with the fibromyalgia and I'll sleep better. Take care, Sandy C. Guest guest
Hi Dee thats pretty neat, thats one thing I always worry about with OTC drugs if its ok to take them, so many anymore can not go together. Can you put it in the links section so other people can find it later on. Thanks Sharon Group Owner > > I found a good website, maybe some of you already know about it. www.drugs.com > You can type in all the medications you are taking, and it will list any interactions or precautions you need to know about. > > Dee > > > > > --------------------------------- > Messenger with Voice. Guest guest
Hi, Sally! I was 3 months out last Thursday, and today is my last PT session. I had experience with Percocet 5mg osycodone/325 acetominaphen (also known as Tylox) from several root canals. I had problems sleeping well into my 2nd month post-surgery, so my ortho doc prescribed Vicodin but that did nothing but make me really jittery, so he recommended 35 - 50 mg of Benadryl. He also stressed that I was not to drive after taking any type of opiate med. My PT told me to take the meds at least 1/2 hour before my session, and I can't imagine I could have gotten through those first 6 weeks without that support. After my 6 week recheck (and permission to start driving again!), the doc asked me to wean myself off the Percocet and I was able to do that except for some days when I " overdid " (like yardwork for 3+ hours straight), and now Tylenol works just fine. I had an original set of PT for 13 weeks, then extended it another 13 weeks, and then another 12. Yes, it's a long process, but so worthwhile. Take as much time as you can have authorized. I have gotten to ~125° flex and -1 extension and am completely pleased with my outcome. The only thing I really still have to work on is going down stairs - still some pain there and not a fluid step - and continuing to build up my stamina. I know this is after your appt. with your OS, and I hope you were able to come to a good decision about your pain med(s). Perhaps my experience will be helpful, if not to you, than someone else " up and coming " . Guest guest
Hi , I'm sorry to hear you didn't get to hear what you probably wanted to hear, huh? I'm sure you want them to fix something and take the pain away. I'm in the same boat right now. Maybe get a second opinion? and as far as your pain meds go, I will do my best, but medications work different for everybody. The morphine, I found for the long acting, is supposed to last for twelve hours, lasted for six hours for me. So I would talk to you doctor about trying it three times a day, taking one very early in the morning, and then spacing them out accordingly. Then you may not really need the instant release that much. If you are not happy with the morphine in how well it work, it doesn't work well for everybody...... ask you doctor about a completely differnt regime of meds. I went that route with the morphine, and I think the other meds my doctor put me on works much better. And I have found that if the pain is excalating, taking ativan can sometimes head that off. When I was just recently in the hospital, the nurse happened to be suffering from some kind of auto- immune joint disease, and she asked me if I would want to give a try of getting a shot of ativan instead of pain meds, and I agreed....well it worked in heading off a pain crisis full of shooting pains. I was absolutly pleasantly suprised on that one. So it was the muscle tension that was getting me and increasing my pain. Also, I think you should ask about lyrica. As I said before, the first couple of times I tried it, I had no faith in it. But now I would swear by it, and I am on less meds now, as far as dosage amount goes. But if you don't feel happy with your meds, there are others out there and diffeent combinations that may work better for you. Skelaxin is good, but I have found it's effectiveness wears off after a while. If you have anymore questions I'd be happy to answer them, and there are lots of others here that may have different experiences with their meds too. I wish you the best of luck james. Take care God bless. Guest guest
, I am on 450mg of lyrica, and the doc said I could go as far as 600mg if needed. I agree with sue on the cymbalta though, that is one mean as* drug, I was on max daily dosage daily, and it got to making me feel really strange, I would back down a 1/3rd daily it would stop and then go back up and it would start again, but I had to get off of it for other reasons thankfully enough. My PM is trying to keep me off the morphine for now, with every combination he can come up with, because I have some surgical procedures coming up and I need somewhere to go as far as pain control covers. I am really glad of it even though, it's hard with my tolerance level exceeding the perks and oxy.  george  The dog has seldom been successful in pulling man up to its level of sagacity, but man has frequently dragged the dog down to his. Thurber ________________________________ From: citi_sue <no_reply > spinal problems Sent: Tuesday, November 18, 2008 9:36:31 AM Subject: Re: pain meds Hi , Thank you, it's always nice to hear from you too. Hope you are doing okay today. I really don't know if that is a small dose or not. I think, by what I have seen other people prescribed through the years, it is average. If you are adjusting to it well, I think that is good. As far as the Lyrica goes, when I was first put on it, I am usually trirated up on doses slowly because I react to a lot of meds if I am put on higher doses too fast. But on this last time my doctor jumped me up to 300mg a LOT faster, and I didn't get any ill effects. But now, it works really well, and I get as much pain if I miss it as I would my pain pills. And my pain pills are at a lower rate because of the Lyrica. It does help with the nerve pain. And some people are on higher doses of Lyrica. I think it goes as high as 400mg. But everybody is different. You are on cymbalta, and I could not take that at all. If I accidently missed a dose because of one reason or another, I would have just horrible livid nightmares, and wake up screaming. It was horrible. I think I had about 4 of those before we realized it was the cymbalta. So I will not take that. Also, my doctor put me on diclofenac along with the Lyrica, it could be that that combination works. Although, he did just change me to Arthotech when I just got out of the hospital the other day. Are you on an anti-anxiety medication for when you pain gets bad?? That helps a lot for when you pain gets out of hand to calm you down, and it helps calm the pain down too I find. Because when that pain gets way up there, it's gonna put a lot of stress on you. I know it makes me feel highly stressed.. And sometimes it can be traumatizing to have to suffer high amounts of pain, especially on a repeated basis. And I myself think that can make one depressed to go through that. So I think you have to look at what you yourself are going through, what is your body doing?? How are you feeling?? What are you feeling when you pain is high? or moderate?? You need to get detailed with your doctor so that he can act accordingly. ... does that make sense?? Guest guest
I too am on cymblata but I stay on just 30 mg a day not going any higher. Last fall I was on it from october to march than tapered off by pouring out half the contents so essentially taking it just 15 mg a day for 7 days than quit. Its a good drug for what it does, it definitly helps with the serotonin levels in the brain which for me fall off during the short days of fall every year and than once the long days of spring come back I dont need it. My Docs have tried to get me to increase to 60mg but I wont do it, in part because I know the dreams are already vivid and I do get periodic headaches which Im sure would get worse with higher doseage. So thats my two cents- if you need to be on it just try the 30mg a day and keep it at that. Guest guest
I am glad to have found this site. I am getting ready to deal with my knees. I was a caregiver for my Mom who died in '02. I have stopped smoking. I have tried to lose weight, which doesn't go with smoking. I saw a OS in '02 that my GP recommended. I really didn't like him. And I had my mom's estate in another state from mine. That all got settled a year and a half ago. Since than I have been putting my own house back in order. Now I have to find a Surgeon. I have no idea how to go about it. My new GP gave me the name of some OS's who are in a huge hospital and I am not comfortable with the big hospital. I have no idea how to go about find an OS. I ask many people who have had surgery and haven't found very many who know their knee MD's name. I don't know how many " evaluations " I will have paid for by Medicare. I am in Meto Detroit and wonder if any of you are from this area and just love your OS? I will also do some back reading and see if this was talked about before. I see that one person just put their Doctor at the bottom of their email with their name. I will check and see if others did that. Thanks for some ways I may not know. I was really excited to hear a couple people who have talked about both knees being done at the same time. I don't think I will have enough courage to do it twice. I was about to give that up when I heard that some are doing it. rae
