Guest guest
Tylenol--acetaminophen--is only a risk if you tend to drink daily and then three or more drinks a day, I believe. It says on the label if you do then consult your doctor...probably so they can throw you in rehab. :-) Back in my wild party days (the mornings after), I was also warned by my doctor that taking acetaminophen or aspirin for hangovers was NOT a good idea. The alcohol from the night before was still being processed by the liver. A tablespoon of 30% alcohol shouldn't hurt you....of course I would rather have voted for a hot toddy and said never mind to the Tylenol, ibuprofen and aspirin. Oh wait...that's for a fever...not pain relief...anyway, a bit of information for young party goers out there. Karin Karin pain meds Another thing to consider with Tylenol/acetominophen... is that it can cause liver damage, especially when taken at the same time as alcohol. Odd that they combine the two in Nyquil.... and that this connection is not well publicized.

Guest guest
It's scary what people do for that drug. I think it was Dateline or one of those nighly news programs that had a story on it a while ago, one lady was mugged after leaving her pharmacy, one a person broke into the pharmacy, stole all the oxycontin and broke into the computers to find out who was on it (tho I don't know how he could do all that before any cops showed so that part of the story I don't know is really true), the list goes on. It's a shame this girl is so hooked on the drug but to sell her son... she needs some serious help. I've never been on it and told my doctor I'd rather deal with some pain than go on that drug. Too bad they can't make meds so they aren't addictive. Scary what drugs can do to your body and mind. I can't access the link you attached, just out of curiosity, does it say if she was once prescribed it legally for some sort of pain then taken off of it and couldn't get more so she got it illegally or just got a hold of some for a high and got hooked? Either way I know it doesn't matter I'm just curious. I just had cervical fusion surgery (I'll post that story later), and they gave me that stuff. My pain levels are quite manageable, however I had a neighbor come over to give me flowers and run an errand for me and I'll be damned if she didn't pilfer some of those pills, like 20 or 30. Sooo.... I had to get another rx written, hardcopy to take to the pharmacy. Make sure I hide the pain pills when she comes over!!!! LOL (now that the new rx is filled (-; It's good, but not that good! Hank
Guest guest
You got VERY lucky that they filled your script. Up here doctors will not refill a script under those circumstances. I take mine right to my pharmacy just for that reason. As soon as you walk out the door it doesn't matter if someone stole the script or meds or if you lost it, too bad. They have to be that way b/c of people who abuse the pain meds. A couple of my scripts I have to pick up each time I need a refill as narcotics can't be called into the pharmacy, has to be hand delivered. Hide your meds and when you get your scripts, even if they don't need to be filled for a week or whatever, get it into the pharmacy so you don't take a chance on losing it or having someone take the script. Your doctor could get into trouble legally for refilling that script too soon, so just a heads up Connie > I just had cervical fusion surgery (I'll post that story later), > and they gave me that stuff. Guest guest
One more idea, if you're familiar with your meds knowing what pill is for what etc, and you need to go somewhere and take meds with you, put them together in a pill bottle that has no label on it. That way if someone by chance steals them you aren't losing your whole supply and they don't have your name or other info from the bottle. Hope that helps Connie
Guest guest
Better yet, I'll just not have her over to my place: Problem solved! I'm assuming that's where the pills went as I had counted them the night before, and she had made some remarks about " sharing " . Anyhow, I forgive and forget easily. No harm done. The pain is actually lessining and hopefully I won't need them much. They are just good at bedtime and morning.
Guest guest
I am interested in your shoulder replacement, Tubbs. How was it in comparison to the hip replacement? The surgery and the recuperation? I have had both hips replaced and it is wonderful to have no more pain in my hips. But my shoulders are bothering me. I have been putting off going to the Dr. for them. But it is getting so I can't sleep at night. Doristubbs8695 <Suzeegrape@...> wrote: yI got sick on all pain meds for my first hip. Guest guest
What's wrong with taking pain pills? They are no less important than heart medication is to someone with heart problems. If there are too many side effects you need to change pain meds. Chronic pain is a disease and you treat it just like you would any other medical problem. And I say AMEN to that. If you are hurting and need them, you are not going to get addicted. The addiction comes when you take them just to get high after your pain is gone. Hang on, Guys and Gals, you can do this! Guest guest
If you are hurting and need them >>> It is much easier to maintain your pain control when you take your meds as needed.... verse waiting to the point that you just can't tolerate it and THEN requesting them. Plus you end up how much longer in pain waiting for the meds to help ? Sides... chances are... they'll be way more effective for you taking regularly the first week and you'll do way better exercising or getting up & about. The addiction comes when you take them just to get high after your pain is gone. >>> Actually addiction comes at various levels for different individuals due to metabolizing rates. Age & body weight are just a few of the many things that play a role in determining just how one will react to a given drug. It's multiple dosing over an expanded period of time that can create problems. There are "addictive behaviors" to watch for... when the same dose don't fix you like it once did... that's generally the biggest point toward your headed toward dependency. Best thing to do is keep your doctor well informed talk about EXACTLY how it effects you~ POINT OUT differences which you notice. Bottom line is if you don't need them then don't take them but be aware of what the habit forming behaviors to a drug.
Guest guest
my ortho gave me two prescriptions leading up to my surgery, then one when i left the hospital. After the surgery i had my two week follow up. i tried to call out of it because i was feeling good but i did not want to sit in the car for an hour each way; i knew i couldnt handle that. the receptionist/nurse said that it was important that i not reschedule this appt. so i went, and it hurt. and i sat in the waiting room for 40 min, then in the back for an additional 30 min. i was pretty much in tears by the time the doctor came into the room. then he asks whats wrong and i explain to him that i didnt want to come and he asked " who made you? " basically we almost started arguing about why i was there. he told me i didnt need to be there blah blah blah. i was like whatever can we just get on with it. he said " we need to talk about something far more important; your addiction to narcotics. i went off. he apologized and started to leave. he was half way out the door before i could stop him and ask if he was even going to look at my back. why was i subjected to three hours of unecessary pain? he lifted up my shirt said it looked fine and asked me if i needed another prescription for pain meds. i will never go back to that doctor, not even for my six week follow up. i ended up going to my family doctor. he gave me one prescription after that last one to wean myself off of my meds. it didnt work, and now i feel like an addict (cause im addicted) but i should be made to feel ashamed about this from the doctors who gave me the medicine for so long to begin with. to top it all off im still in pain, but now i dont know if im just exagerating it cuz my body wants meds. thanks for listening rob >From: " darkstarzz1019 " <darkstarzz1019@...> >Reply-neck pain >neck pain >Subject: Pain meds >Date: Wed, 28 Sep 2005 07:04:33 -0000 > >Hi why didn't your dr wean you off them slowly?? Guest guest
Hi Rob sorry to hear your dr gave you such a hard time. I had a similar thing after my first surgery, the dr's thought I was ALL WELL so as soon as I out of surgery it was " well its pain from your surgery NOT pain anymore " I begged to differ and they didn't listen. All my pain meds were taken away and fasttttttttttt and of course I went thru detox cause my body was dependant on them. The surgery didn't last and I was lucky that I got them back pretty fast but I still felt the withdrawl. And my dr had promised me he'd take me off them slowly but his idea of slowly and mine differed alot. Anyway I am sure many of us are DEPENDANT on pain meds, how could we not be when they are addicting medications. But still your dr could have said Dependant and not addicted I hate that word. I've been told that before by well meaning family and friends, one even called me an addict!!!!!boy did I go off on them. But still it hurt because I didn't make myself, my pain made me dependant on them, there is a difference that people forget to see. What ideas did someone have for you I'm curious and I'm sure they might help someone else in the group if you would share them. Thanks and good luck, just remember take it slow and remember to exercise and do things that will distract your brain and body when the urges hit, thats the best thing I found to do. What ideas did someone have for you I'm curious and I'm sure they might help someone else in the group if you would share them. Thanks and good luck, just remember take it slow and remember to exercise and do things that will distract your brain and body when the urges hit, thats the best thing I found to do.
