It was me that asked, I must have forgotten to add that if it made anyone

uncomfortable to answer then of course not answer, again I'm sorry for upsetting

anyone.

Don't apologize for being curious...that is how you get answers, whether it is

ages or about your condition. I didn't take offense or I wouldn't have answered.

But I do know what it is like to ask a question and then be ignored so I try not

to do that to anyone else.

also...don't get your feelings hurt...people having a bad pain day or on extra

meds may respond differently than they normally would. just let it roll off your

back, smile, and be glad for what you do have!

Again, please put the blame on me, I started this b/c I wasn't sure if it was a

joke or not so I thought it better to apologize in case I was upsetting someone

rather than to joke and make someone madder.. please don't be upset with anyone

but me for not getting that it was a joke :)

My first surgery was in Feb 2001. Laminectomy at L3/L4

ACDF C5/6/7 in Aug 2002. Dad died in Oct 2002 :(

Herniated L4/L5 in Jan 2003. Trying everything to avoid

3rd surgery.

Will be 39 in 2 weeks.

Right now, I'm getting a series of injections, epidural steroid injections,

abbreviated ESI. They are supposed to block the pain impulses from the

nerve and hopefully shrink the offending piece of disc that's escaped.

My herniation is at L4/L5, but is a lateral herniation, so when my fat body

stands up, it presses down on S1, and OWIE! OWIE! OWIE! Onlye

one of the 3 ESI's got the S1 nerve, and that reduced the pain quite a bit,

so my back GP is authorizing an unprecedented 4th shot. These shots

run about $1400 bucks, so thank goodness for health insurance. If the

fourth shot works, I won't have surgery, if it doesn't, I'll ask for a

" endoscopic lateral laminectomy " which doesn't cut through much of

the back muscles like a regular laminectomy. I'm concerned about the

recovery time being 4-6 weeks in this tough economy. I had 2 months

off last year for the ACDF (cervical) and a month off for my dad's

terminal illness, so it worries me to no end. And as you know, a low

grade continuous pain really eats away at you. Imagine having a headache

for 5 months. Even a slight headache, day after day, would drive you

freakin' nuts. That's pretty much where I am now. So I am so looking

forward to next Tuesday, when I get my next shot. Happy, Happy. Joy, Joy!

Hey Joe,

Good luck with the shot Tuesday. I have a bad memory so I thought

I'd say it now.
