....sometimes. the odds in general depend on the genotype of the viruse he

has. then there's his personal factors...his immune system, lifestyle,

attitude, stress levels, etc.

I mean if you get cured are

> you cured for life?

....sometimes, but rarely. pretty much the same answer as above.

a small percent of people manage to clear it on their own by the power of

their immune system.

most commonly it comes back after some years, but the longer you stay clear

the more likely you'll continue to.

Does it ever come back later on?

....it's generally accepted that getting virus free is a state of remission,

not a cure. how to define a " cure " for this? if you think in terms of

being 100% virus free, there is no known cure, but some people might get

there, again depending on the stuff in the answers above. one never really

knows if there's still a few virus hanging out somewhere hidden... so it's a

matter of maintaining the healthy lifestyle and attitudes and getting tested

once in awhile to keep an eye (and an upper hand)on it.

I would have to say.....what genotype does he have and have they done a

liver biopsy? I was on it for 6 months......started with a viral load

of 13 million 6 months later was down to 930,000 viral load....I quit

responding cause I am a genotype 1A and stage 4 Hep C

victim........keep your chin up this stuff changes it's own mind all

the time....

Good Luck

So when he went and did his blood over load 2 weeks ago and the results came

back negative that really doesn't mean anything does it? In four weeks when he

does it again it could test either way am I correct in this way of thinking?

Thanks guys. I am not really sure what genotype we go back to the dr. Friday

and I will ask those questions. He had a liver biopsy and his dr. said on a

scale of 1-4 with 4 being the worse he had 1 Cirrhosis of the liver. His dr. is

saying he has to be on this medication for 6 months then if he test negative

they will test him again in 6 months if he still test negative then he is cured

and they will test again in 2 years and it should still be negative and it

shouldn't ever come back? What are your views on this?

A lot of this depends on his blood test results. Did yu get a copy?

If not, request one from your Doc. You ALWAYS want a copy of

everything that they do to your body. And keep is all in a log,

chronological style (by date), with names of Docs and specialists. If

blood tests are iffy, they really should be doing more before

treatment: Cat scan, MRI, ultrasound. I've had all of that as well as

liver biopsy tests and surgery.

If you have specific questions, this is THE place to get experienced

answers, or they'll be researched for you. And I wholeheartedly agree

with Bob re: cured for life. Not likely, but improving one's health

for a better quality of life is reasonable. If one particular

treatment doesn't knock the virus on its butt, you can always wait

awhile and do another, somewhat different treatment. Researchers

around the world are working on alternatives, one of which is

especially interesting to my Doc and me. This is TX-950, I believe,

which will be an oral dose only, with way fewer side affects than the

reba/peg stuff. Oh, since your husband recently began treatment, it

is likely that the side affects will get worse. Don't worry, expect it

and keep asking questions here. Many of us have been trough 2-4

treatments. For me, the third and last one was truly devastating to

me. Unable to work, eat, sleep well, etc.............

see from him are he is so mean verabaly makes me cry alot says things that are

so off color then there are other times I think he is loosing his mind he

doesn't remember telling me things and calls me a lier this is harder on me I

think than the acutal disease. I now have a huge list of questions for the Dr.

when we go tomorrow thanks to all you guys.

Are you telling me that the side effects get worse the longer you are on the

medication?

Hello ,

It sounds as if your husband may have one of the more curable types. I have

the most common type (and most difficult to cure). Cure rate for my type

is, maximum, of 50%

Other types can range as high as 80% cure. One can live a long life even if

it isn't cure; we must avoid certain substances, however, to prevent even

more damage. Alcohol is number one and the active ingredient in Tylenol is

another (and that ingredient is found in many over-the-counter medications).

Here is one link to check:

Best regards from Rochester, NY

Thanks, Jim didn't know about the Tylenol but he doesn't drink. The doctor told

him that he has an 80% cure rate. But I just don't know what all that means I

mean is there a chance that I will always be at 5% risk catching it from him?

he tested negative meaning no virus detected? sure not meaningless, a very

good sign, but not a reason to discontinue the treatment...stay the course

if you're going it at all, unless problems from it arise making it dangerous

or just too unbearable to continue. yes, in a month it could read higher

again, but generally it should keep improving despite any roller-coaster

effect.

....i'd get re-tested every year for five , then every two for six, then

relax unless symptoms come up.

and i'd maintain an extremely modified anti-hep, anti-cancer, anti-being

food for a predatory economic system pushing junk lifestyle forever, as a

matter of habit.

he tested negative meaning no virus detected? sure not meaningless, a very

good sign, but not a reason to discontinue the treatment...stay the course

if you're going it at all, unless problems from it arise making it dangerous

or just too unbearable to continue. yes, in a month it could read higher

again, but generally it should keep improving despite any roller-coaster

effect.

Ok. Are you talking about me getting tested or my husband? My husband is the

one with the hep C. My way of thinking is like said negative is good but it

doesn't mean he is cured that it can be like a roller coaster. My huband is

going to stay on the medicine for the duration which is about 4 more months but

he has it in his head that because 1 test showed negative that he doesn't have

it anymore and I tried to tell him he does still have it but it's like talking

to a fence.
