HI - I feel for you....if you can't get a doc to help you can buy

Armour or even Levoxyl on line without an RX - many of us have had to do

it until we have been able to find a good doc. Don't give your later

years to bad doctors.

Kerry

Hi

My name is I am 69 years old and have had hypothyroidism for 57

years,My md cut my Levoxyl from 300 mcg to 100 and I cry when I have to

brush my hair,do laundry. Fix something to eat exc. This is not living.

My husband of 30 years passed away and I am recovering

from a stroke so all I do all day is lay around. This is not me I want

to feel better and get out and live. What do you all suggest I do? I

feel I need stronger med.So I can be human again.I would like to get

off Levoxyl and all meds.I was told Black Walnut would help. Thank you

You won't find a single one in the US, because it is against the law to

sell a prescription-class FDA-approved medication without a prescription

inside the US. You can get an overseas pharmacy to ship a three month

supply under the restrictions I posted earlier.

To do this, you might need to represent to the overseas supplier or to

the shipping agent that you actually meet the restrictions, in which

case the responsibility for breaking the law falls on you, rather than

the pharmacy. One of the restrictions is that you are only supposed to

do this once.

In the past, these restrictions have not been strictly enforced or even

diligently investigated, but the penalties warrant a well thought out

decision on your part.

Try Drugstore.com or http://www.internationalpharmacy.com - I have used

IAS as well in the UK and they are reliable though a bit more expensive.

I don't know about the risks - I have had my hormones opened every time

(about 10 shipments) and the only one that was confiscated was for DHEA

- go figure?

Anyway I'm not in the US so I don't know how it is for you - but to me

the risks are only relative to what you have to gain.

Hello! I am 38 and have been taking Synthroid for over 14 years. I have no

other health problems just this hypothyroidism, I am overweight too. All of

my labs for lipids, diabetes etc are normal. Just recently my

Endocrinologist has been testing me every 10 weeks trying to get my thyroid

level steady. Usually it is only once a year. Each time I go in he is

increasing my medication. My current prescription is 300mcg. I am having

no luck losing any weight. I have noticed that my concentration level is

not what it used to be. I do have forgetfulness more than usual.I used to

blame this on having " blonde moments " but must admit that this is happening

more often than before. My diet is reasonable but exercise is too

draining. I get tired just thinking about it! My body requires at least 8

hours of sleep every night which I have no problem getting. My ability to

fall asleep quickly is pretty amazing. My friends and family cannot believe

how quickly I am out!

Reading the posts on the board has been helpful for me. I had no idea that

I was not supposed to take vitamin supplements within 4 hours of taking

Synthroid, that I was not supposed to be eating broccoli, soy or other foods

that I have enjoyed until recently. My doctor never offers any additional

information just the same thing every time and off to the lab for more blood

work.

I would appreciate hearing from others what has worked for you in regards to

diet, vitamin supplements and moderate exercise. This recent dosage

increase seems really high. My mother now takes Synthroid but her dosage is

only .25. Wouldn't you think I should see some sort of improvement by now?

Is it out of the ordinary for a relatively young person to be taking such a

high dosage of Sythroid (300mcg)? Any feedback/advice is appreciated.

Actualy these things are not supposed to happen at your age. Have you ever read

the book " reverse the aging process " by Null, or " Natural Cures They Don't

Want You To Know About " by Treudeau, I highly recommend that one. Good

luck with everything.

Hi , it is not abnormal to take so much but probably can be changed. You

wrote " my diet is reasonable " . Maybe that is something you should consider

changing to " my diet is great " . It's hard to have a great diet and it's also

hard to know what a great diet is. So many experts say so many different things

and I think a great diet is different for everyone. My personal " great diet "

includes staying away from dairy, flour, sugar. Once in a while I will allow

myself to do what I want. I also do not eat meat but if you do it wouldn't hurt

to make it organic. I believe diet is everything so maybe you should start with

researching what diet works for you. Good luck and welcome. -jessica

,

Your message just came through today. I suspect it was the magic of

-land at work. Anyway, you wrote:

>

> ... My current prescription is 300mcg. ... My mother now takes Synthroid but

her dosage is

> only .25. ...

That is pretty close, 250 versus 300 mcg. The nominal full replacement

dose in women is 200 mcg (100 in men), but that is adjusted by weight.

Also, some people need extra due to difficulties converting.

From your description, you are at risk for sleep apnea. This causes or

contributes to weight gain, but it will damage your heart if left

untreated. Talk to your doctor. Get a sleep test.

Dear Grace,

Most people on this list did not do well w/the block and replace. Weaning

off the ATDs seems to work much better. I hope you stick to your guns, and try

to reduce your dosage if you determine you are hypo. When I felt I was

getting hypo, as I wrote earlier, I insisted the endo confirm this with a blood

very well for me--I hope you have the same outcome.

Hi just saw your message. I have been on Carbimazole for four weeks now

and they have taken me from hyper through to feeling quite normal for a few

days and now I think I am going hypo so they do work. Saw Dr today and she

has taken bloods, will let you know what effect the Carbimazole has had.

The Carbimazole has certainly slowed my heart down and made me feel so much

calmer tho I sincerely wish the Dr would not insist that I have to go hypo.

She wants me hypo she says to give me block and replace. I did try and talk

her out of that and asked if it was ok to reduce Carbimazole slightly but

she said no and am thinking of reducing dosage slightly myself (see previous

thread).

Hi

thanks for reply. Interesting people seem not to do well on block and replace

- more detemined to try cutting back meds now then. Will hold off til I

get blood test results and take it from there tho I feel as tho I have gone

hypo, just never realised it happened so fast!

I have met people that do good on block and replace (B & R). And swear by it.

One problem for them is they are unable to completely wean off the ATDs without

rebounding to hypER. But with the ATD alone they go hypO. (Even at very low

doses.) B & R allows them to get to where they need to be in the thyroid ranges

and be stable until their bodies can recover enough to handle things on its own.

Another problem is high antibody titers. ATDs are immunosuppresants and as such

can aid in the lowering of antibodies. They take the ATD to lower the

antibodies and take the replacement T4/T3 to counteract the ATDs effect on the

thyroid hormone production.

You might ask the dr " why " she wants to go for B & R therapy versus straight ATD

use. If you are mainly trying to lower thyroid hormone levels, the general rule

of thumb is to cut back ATDs as levels drop. Cutting back would prevent the

" need " for replacement T4/T3. And eventually most people can slowly work their

way to where their body regains control of regulating thyroid hormones. Without

the need for ATDs or replacement meds. This is referred to as " remission " .

Hope that helps some

Kim
