Dz for the last 21 years I have lived in the not so

great Southwest " just outside of Phoenix AZ " before

that I lived 27 years in the GREAT midwest " Mo & Il " .

The day after I Retire I will have my house sold &

will be backing the U-Hall up to my front door &

heading back to the Great Midwest.

I like it here. Even though the winters can be a bit

trying at times. The forests and lakes make up for it,

Dz the summers here are very trying, Our high temps

go over 100 in late April or early May & stays there

until late September or early October. For several

weeks in there our lows only dip down to the mid 90's.

For our first ten years out here Susy & I loved it out

here. The Hot summers along with the fact that the

Phoenix Metro Area has grown from 1,500,000 to over

4,000,000. We are tried of it & want to move back to

the Midwest. To a small town " less then 10,000'.

We're about 100,000 here in Green Bay. I remember

noticing when I flew into Phoenix one time, all the

swimming pools really struck me from the air. I guess

We have about 21,000 here in ville, Georgia...

It's a small rural town with 2 shopping centers including 3 grocery stores,

1 regular Walmart, about 15 resturants... NO malls...

Dz, my son & his wife moved from here to the

Green Bay area last December. He seams to be enjoying

it so far. ce he was only two when we moved out

here I was kind of surprized.

They say it averages about one house out of four has

a pool. Some of our friends have a pool. We don't,

They cost a lot to maintane. I don't want to pay out

the extra $$$ each month to only be able to use it

four or five months a year.

ane no one dares set foot anywhere near our Property as our dogs will run

them off!!! That's my protection... when Ken is back workin'(union) & I'm

here most of the time by myself. Just the dogs barkin' turns moist people

away but if they get persistant I set em loose----that gets gpoing in

hurry...but this is only for strangers or Salespeople (which I despise!!) Or

the Holy rollers who come door-to-door and are next to impossible to get rid

of........ When we were living up in the mountains not far from here (years

ago) I ran them off with Ken's 357 magnum One time when we were'tnt home a

group of the them came onto our property- & Rebel(Ken's old Dobie) he would

wag his butt around & act real happy to see people til they got close to

front door -- then he's turn aggressive & run them off actually grabbingpant

legs & ripping them - but he never bit anyone but Ken or I & then he's used

just grab to around the foot or someplace else & hit a nerve & we'd just

collapse on the ground.. tehn he's start lickin' us to death!!

terry know hoat you mean about the hi temps in AZ my folks had retired to

the footlills section of about 20 east of Yuma... one april Ken & I went to

visit them & when the house got (inside got down to about 85 degrees my mom

went & turned on the heater--so Ken & I went out on the patio & sat out on

the swing... Ken was so hot even out there he was just amazed when he looked

@ the big thrmometer oustside & it was still 110 degrees @ 1AM...needless to

say we only stayed a couple of days...BTW Ken was born in Idaho & grew here

in Oregon,,,,,he had been thinking that when we retire we'd probably move to

AZ as I don't really mind the heat as I grew up in SO Cal & it woiuld get so

hot in the summers in El Cajon that they would fry eggs on the main st.

sidewalk...this was done annually evey summer for decades but I don't suppose

they do it anymore as El Cajon is no longer a small town east of San Diego

anymore.. it's grown immensely in the 25 yrs I've lived here in Oregon. but

I still miss the nice weather & sunshine / no smog that I grew up

with....Originally I came from just outside Cleveland Ohio--but we moved to

Cal. in early '50s when I wa about 4 years old

After going through the midwest plains states to So Dakota in '00.. loved the

summer there even though they did have a tornado go through raoid city while

we were there--- of course seeing that it happened in Aug they called it

a'micro-burst' but I'll tell you it was very destructive & started all those

forest fires that went through the Plains states clear as far west as central

WA We were on a m/c & had a very hard time keeping outta all the smoke in

those 5 staes we went through!! We rode out very early from Rapid

City(storming every evening & alll night long for about 7-8 days but after

the first 5 days we noticed the that the storms would die down from about

4am4pm Ao we bugged out but had to ride clear to western Montana before we

could stop for a night...we rode aboit 14 hours that days & were plum

tuckered out when we did stop!!

dz the town Ken & I live only has a pop of about 2000 or less When we moved

up here about 8 yr ago there were only about 800-1000 residents but then we

don't actually live in town either- about 2.5 mi to twn!

Machelle now that's a BIG town - wher we live in Rainier OR we have no grocery

store(have to travel across Columbia & into WA to shop (at least it's tax free

for us Oregonians there (Oregon is one of the few tax free states left) they've

been trying to get us to pay taxes for years but everytime it comes on the

ballot -it is of course voted down--Hooray for us independants & democrats

We don't have any malls- food mart @ the 2 out of the 3 gas stations near here

Oh yeah we have a minit mart on the edge of town & a couple of 'smoke shops'

that the Wa people use as the smokes are about $3 less a pack

Terry my folks had a pool in SanDiego when I was growing us kids did all the

cleaning & Dad was a pipefitter so he did all the plumbing upkeep & he had

friends that were Electricians & they would come out & fix anything we needed

fixed & they were always invited to come out anytime & bring their families

for BBQ's & swimming.. but we used our pool about 10 months oout of the year

& no it wasn't a heated pool either! Us kids just were ater freaks & loved

the pool & I had horses back then so I'd go riding & then swimming @

night!! I just loved growing up in El Cajon

Machelle the road we live & neighbors aren't real close..... some chat about

anything chit-chat .. others just smile & wave....... one turns their nose up(

they are the jerks I'd told Diane about over a year ago.....teens were druggies

& alkies - just like the mother!! But live & let live---or die in their case

(just joking there) We don't get too many really nosy or pushy neighbors--way

of the neighborhood---everyone seems to tend their own.....but if anyone should

need any help all we or they have to do is that goes for all of about 3-4 of

the owners -some don't even live on their property - merely an investment!!

same here in Oregon---hi humidity when it's @ 100% you know it's gonna rain

again or already is......We very rarely ever see 30%...as are average is

I live in Houston. The winters are great. One day a

high of 80, the next day 45. The summers are hot,

humid, and polluted. But I've been here all my life

and it's home. But if anyone tells you you'll get used

to the heat, don't believe them. After 45 years I

still hate the heat. One of the few places in the US I

haven't seen is the midwest and I'd love to go there

someday.

Atlene, Several thosand retire out here every year.

Several thosand more spend the winters or part of the

winter out here. But there are a few thosand like me

who moved out here during their working years & are

waiting to move back to or near where they came from.

If I don't transfer to our main plant in Madison Wi. I

will have my house sold & will be backing a U-Hall up

to my front door the day after I retire & will be

moving back to Central MO.

Sharon, People out here say in the sumers it is hot

but it is a dry heat. But when it's 115 to 120 for the

high in the day & at 10:00 at night & it's 105. It

makes no differance. If it's dry or humid, it's HOT to

hot to spend very much time. You get in your car after

it sits in a parking lot for thirty minutes or longer

you can burn your hands & fingers on the steering

wheel. I lived in the midwest the first 27 years of my

life. The last 21 years here in Az. I'll take the

midwest even in the winter over this.

Yeah, I always thought anything over 85 is too hot,

humid or not. I just don't know if I could handle

snow. But then I guess if I can handle Peg-intron,

snow is probably easy.
