Hi

how long have you been on TRT ?

Have you had a test to see if you have a bacterial infection in your

skin? because it sounds like what you are describing.

You also might have a skin condition of some sort as well.

I would recommend seeing a dermatologist.

I have this same problem and my Dr. told me to get some Black Cohosh. Works

great.

I'm burning up. I've always like hot weather but now can't take it.

Even now in the cold of winter I look like a tomato.

recent tests

total T 563 (240-950) It's been to 800 with no change in flushing

free T 18.9 (10-55)

E2 11 (0-76)

HCT 45.9 (40-54) red blood cell count

thyroid numbers look ok

TSH 1.6 (.3-5)

Free T3 391 range?

Free T4 1.3 (.7-1.9)

Although my basel temp taken in the morning under armpit is 97.0

which according to all the alternative doctors would indicate

hypothyroidism. I've been taking an iodine product called iosol for a

few months with no change.

Any ideas? I can't see going on like this even though quiting TRT has

long term bad consequences for heart and bone health.

Sounds like a reaction to something. How are you administering the

testosterone. If its a cream or Androgel, I wonder if it something

other that the T thats giving you a reaction. I also wonder about

that iodine suppliment. I know people who have reactions to seafood

and thats iodine based. Does the timing of the redness correspond to

taking the iodine (or the T) or was it at a different time?

An E2 of 11 is too low in my opinion. Are you taking arimidex or Dimm

to block it's conversion? Your symptoms sound like those of a

menopausal woman when their E2 levels drop too low.

Is there any chance you are taking the vitamin niacin

in large doses? In the past, I took fairly large doses of

niacin in the past and I'd have episodes of flushing rather like

what you've described. Have you tried an antihistamine'

when you have an episode? Are you having any hives?

I was going to say the same thing that your E2 on the fac of it

appears to be too low and that would cause flushing.

there's no infection on the skin, it justs red.

i use a topical cream, apply to ceter of chest. on a second source

but still red skin.

i don't think there's a relationship between the iodine and T. Have

eaten seafood all my life, no reactions or allergies to anything.

not taking niacin. haven't tried antihistamine. is that something

that can be taken long term?

E2 has been 50 too, no difference. yes am on arimedex.

i will try the black cohosh.

thanks

i've had the flushing when the e2 was 50 and now when it's 11. it

can't be the e2 as that's been all over the map.

phil, i read the black cohosh is used by women to regulate estrogen.

i don't think i need any estrogen regulation, but at this point i;ll

try anything. says not to take it more than 6 months. how long did

you take it, what dose? and it ended your flushing?

I take it for about a week at a time just started on it been feeling very hot

and looking red I don't have this constantly. And it is E2 and Total E's that

does this both low and high levels. You like me very sensitive to E2 and E's If

I let my E2 go to high I break out in rashs on my legs and side of my chest. I

have a gauge I use to keep this down when on Arimidex. When my E2 is good I

call this the zone I get very hard morning wood. I can tell if I am going to

low because this stops so I stop the Arimidex when the wood comes back I go back

on it that day you see E2 goes up and down fast. When I go back on it I will

take less. So between this and blood work I manage to keep my E2 in the zone.

I find most men do good at .25 mgs every 3 days. I make more E2 so I do .5 mgs

every otherday.

Hi,

The cream has to have a solvent that combines with the T so it can get

thru the skin. Some of these carriers can be irritating to the skin.

I participated in a study which was supposed to carry a prostaglandine

(PGE) thru the skin to cause an erection. It worked poorly but on my

way home an hour later my eyes began to itch terribly and lasted for

several hours.

Just guessing and wonder if you have tried related products using

different chemical carriers?

Hey Thom - I was a routine blood donor (every 2 months) then I noticed I

couldn't catch my breath when I went for a run. Went to the Doc and found I was

anemic. Gave me Iron and told me to lay off the blood donation. I did this and

my condition improved. Then I found out I was low on T. When I started doing

shots, same thing - red face, hot all the time. I read about the side affect of

increased red blood cells so I started donating again every 2 months. Redness

and the flashes went away. I also started taking arimidex about that time so a

lower E2 could have had something to do with it.

My advice is quitting TRT is the wrong thing to do. Have you tried donating

blood. I would try this and use of arimidex first.

My 2 cents - Arkansas

recent tests

total T 563 (240-950) It's been to 800 with no change in flushing

free T 18.9 (10-55)

E2 11 (0-76)

HCT 45.9 (40-54) red blood cell count

thyroid numbers look ok

TSH 1.6 (.3-5)

Free T3 391 range?

Free T4 1.3 (.7-1.9)

Although my basel temp taken in the morning under armpit is 97.0

which according to all the alternative doctors would indicate

hypothyroidism. I've been taking an iodine product called iosol for a

few months with no change.

Any ideas? I can't see going on like this even though quiting TRT has

long term bad consequences for heart and bone health.

But i don't have a high blood cell count. Hematocrit is 45 (40-54) i

do take arimidex. Do you think I should give blood anyway with a

normal red blood count? Did you know for sure that your count was

high before you resumed donating blood?

A very low E2 and a very high E2 can cause flushing and the symptoms

you have mentioned and the two E2 blood results you have posted have

both been too high and too low.

Now if you are saying you get the flushing when your E2 is 22 say

then that would be different.

One thing about Hematocrit is if your not drinking enough water before the test

it will come back high and it's not.

Mine ran ~ 45 also. I would try. The worst thing that could happen would be it

would have no affect but you will still be helping someone with the donation.

Sounds like a win-win to me.

I went through my records. Since I've only been getting tested 2

times a year there's not much to go on.

Prior to this flushing I had E2's of 52,60,43,13 and 85.

After flushing started 23,60 and 11.

Don't think it's an estrogen problem.

Started the black cohosh anyway, we'll see if it does anything.

What are you taking to control E2 and testing needs to be done at least every 6

-8 weeks untill your leveled and doing well. I have been on TRT for over 23 yrs

and I get tested every 4 - 6 weeks. Have you had your morning cortisol and

Thyroid tested a lot of us are finding out we have Adrenal Fatigue and some have

a bad thyroid. If this is bad for you your beating you head into a wall trying

to get leveled off on just T. Do have your morning cortisol tested and your

Thyroid do this test TSH, Free T4 and Free T3.

I typically give about 4 times a year now. I do donate every 2 months until I

start to get marginal results on the iron screen they do or I feel short of

breath when I run. I will then skip and donate in 4 months.

Hi Thom,

I just thought I'd pop in and give my two cents on the subject of

your flushing. Personally, I'd suggest you get off the iodine crap

and try Armour Thyroid (name brand only)for hypothyroidism. I'm

taking a stab at this and guessing... the wrong treatment for

thyroid is a problem.

You are NOT iodine deficient are you? Is there a hx of anorexia to

consider...starvation or long term sever dieting involved? Why use

iodine anything? There are some undeveloped regions of the world

that are deficient but iodine dfficiencies are not found in

developed nations without a specifice reason. My money is on the

thyroid as a cause for flushing. Just my thought. Vickie

Taking arimidex 1mg a week.

just tested thyroid

TSH 1.6 (.3-5)

Free T3 391 range?

Free T4 1.3 (.7-1.9)

but my basel temp number upon awakening is 97 to 97.2

haven't had cortisol measured.

i've read in so many alternative newsletters like Dr ,

Alternatives and Dr Bruce West's Health Alert and others and they say

if your basel temp is below 97.6 (some say 97.8 or 97.4) that it

indicates hypothyroidism.mine is 97-97.2 alwayscoldhands and feet in

the winter.

I remember prior to doing TRT I used iodine with no ill effect. But,

yeah, I could stop it. I'm thinking of stopping everything and

starting over.

Cut the pill in .25mg. pieces and take .25 mgs every 3 days this works good for

a lot of men. Not sure what your free T3 is are you saying it's 391 or the

range is 391 and you forgot to add the number. Low temps can also mean low

cortisol.

I use this link to chart my Temps.

Taking arimidex 1mg a week.

just tested thyroid

TSH 1.6 (.3-5)

Free T3 391 range?

Free T4 1.3 (.7-1.9)

but my basel temp number upon awakening is 97 to 97.2

haven't had cortisol measured.
