and have one of those big wheels at their grandparents house.

They love rolling around in it!

Also, they have the large balls with the handles that are the hopping balls

(can't remember the name, but you sit on them, hold the handles and bounce).

They come in different sizes. They love bouncing on them, and falling off!

There is a Sesame Street video that I also can't remember the name of, but

it is something like Exercise with Elmo, or something similar. It really

puts a fun spin on exercising, and just plain moving around and being

active. We have had it for several years, and the girls still like it. I

especially like it on rainy days, it keeps them moving.

> Hi all,

> Here are some toy hits and misses at our house and also some toys that

have been really popular with our Toy Chest program.

> This year the boys ( 2 1/2 and 4 1/2) are gettin this big inflatable

tractor wheel I saw in a catalog called " Back to Basics " Toys. It looks

like lots of fun 41 " in diameter - kids can roll it or get in the middle of

the wheel and push it. Not too expensive either.

>

> Big hit - large super balls 30 " in diameter, great for indoor or outdoor,

large cardboard blocks that look like bricks.

>

> Videos---- best ones out right now in my opinion are Sesame Street's " Do

the Alphabet " and " 123 Count with ME " . My 2 year old can count to 20 and

knows his entire alphabet thanks to Big Bird and Ernie. The songs are great

and will get everyone up and dancing.

Okay, all of you who have video watching kids.......how many of them

constantly push rewind, fast forward, pause, rewind, rewind, rewind, fast

forward, etc. (not necessarily in that order) CONSTANTLY! does this and

has busted so many of his tapes and we can hear him up in his room.....the

little click, click, click, so we know he is doing it! , is this what

you mean? Here I thought was the only one who did this! He is more

than happy to watch a movie COMPLETELY backwards too! I tend to draw the

line there......

Oh my gosh, ! does that too! The same scene.....stops it at

exactly the same spot all the time......especially slapstick scenes....people

falling, people yelling, people screaming. His favorites: All of the Home

Alone movies, both 101 and 102 Dalmations (Cruella screaming cracks him up),

Mouse Hunt, when the house blows up, Bean movie, of the Jungle (which

we just got home from buying his third copy because he busted the others

rewinding them so much), the list goes on and on. Luckily my father in law

is very skilled at splicing them back together for , but then some of the

scenes get messed up and it ticks off. LOLOL.......he also loves to

watch the credits (I think for the music) and we are always the last ones to

leave a movie theater because he must see the credits to the very end. This

drives his brothers crazy.....I think it's hysterical.

<< still loves Barney, but I have since

hidden all those videos and he asks me why all the time. I tell him because

he's 14 and too big to watch Barney. He tell's me...... " That's dumb "

Jackie, Mom to 14ds, 11, and Bradley 7>>

Ted went for a period of time that I thought he was through with Barney. We

have several Barney toys and he isn't the least interested in them. But he

has seemed to have an interest in it again. He knows all the songs and for

some reason enjoys the 30 min shows. Doesn't seem to care for the movies of

Barney too much though.

LOL

Ive been reading all of the Tapes and VCR emails and I am giggling. Sara will

watch a movie all the way through, no rewinding lol but she has a nasty habit

of hiding the remote whenever she is watching TV or a tape. She's afraid

someone in the house will change the channel on her lol problem with this is

Sara's short term memory will get in the way and NO ONE will know where she's

hid the remote lol She has gotten better, getting more regular with her

hiding places........it's in her daddy's big shoe in the closet right now lol

Sara's really never liked the Disney movies until now, she still prefers

movies with real kids in them. Some not rated G lol For some reason we have a

Spice Girl tape in the house and every time I hide it she finds it....it's

funny to hear her mock the British accent lol The movie Mask also makes me

laugh.....still to this day when Jim Carey puts that green mask on, Sara will

hide behind a chair.......she loves this movie even though it must frighten

her. Sara's fav right now is this vampire movie....no I didn't buy this one

Heehee it's a kid movie with a little boy in it. Sara is patiently waiting

for the Grinch to come out on the 20th NOT she's bugging the stew out of me

for this one lol won't wait till her Birthday either she's said.

Since she's been a very busy girl lately she's only been able to watch her

movies in the morning, after her routine is done and I'm getting ready.

Oooh my oldest daughter has what she calls " Movie Night " at her part time

job. She's a leasing consultant full time but wears a social director's hat

for the part time job lol anyway she always borrows Sara's movies to show the

kids. Sara gets to go too and loves to watch her movies on this huge screen

('s complex has a small movie theater in the club house.... Im going

to sneak in one night and watch family videos heehee will be neat to see them

on this screen :)

Kathy mom to Sara 9...........who owns a BIG collection of movies, her

rewards for good weeks

HI :)

I used to baby-sit for two kids with autism. Their Mom told me under no

certain conditions should they be allowed to watch a Disney movie. She gave

me no reason why, soooooo I mentioned this to a friend of hers and she

laughed and told me why, the boys will store the violent scenes in their head

and later if a situation arises...like in the movie, they will repeat what

they saw. Made sense to me, look at what our typical population has copied

from a lot of TV :) remember the movie in Cold Blood? now they call it home

invasion

Jackie..let your other son choose for . TJ and I had this rather heated

discussion in Toys R Us last year. I kept trying to find a developmentally

appropriate toy(s) and TJ said let him be a boy and get boy things. He

insisted that I buy him a remote control car..not the fisher price type, but

the one that big boys (ie dads) like. It was a hit with !

Meanwhile, I bought a leap pad and it's been a waste of money.

I'm not crazy about Christmas shopping myself. This year I will let TJ shop

for all of 's toys :)

What is it with our kids and videos? 's fav at this time is Recess

or something like that. Watch, pause, rewind, play, pause, rewind, etc. It

drives me nuts!

Yes..and the weird thing is that he can stop it in the exact same spot. He

gets fixated on certain scenes. He has learned to say many phrases this

way. He likes to watch things backwards...never has he watched an entire

video backwards though. He seems to get fixated on dangerous things and

things with smoke and fire. For these dinosaur movies, he likes it when the

volcanoes erupt. He use to watch a video until it broke. He's doing better

now. One of his transition aides at school is a video kept in his bookbag.

Remember at the 2000 Upsndowns picnic in WV..how many of our kids scrambled

into the tent to watch videos? We will definitely have one in Lancaster

when we meet up there (btw, there are over 30 families now on that list!!!).
