Christmas Shopping

Three or four years ago asked Santa for a beard trimmer. (He

knows but we still have fun with it.) This was a mall Santa. The next year

when we went back Santa remembered him, out of all the kids he saw. Probably

the only " kid " who ever asked Santa for a beard trimmer. Jessie

What a wonderful idea for us to come here and list what worked or didn't work

in the way of toys for our kids.

My son is NOT interested in ANY toys, except for video's, which he has his

favorites to watch, and maybe some action figures of WWF guys. We do buy

those educational games you pick up at the teacher's stores like match games,

bingo lottery, etc. and those seem to work okay.

Any other suggestions for a child who just doesn't like toys is greatly

appreciated...oh, he loves video games but hasn't a clue as to how to " play "

them.

What a wonderful idea for us to come here and list what worked or didn't work

OH, Videos are always a hit here. We have graduated from Barney to Arthur,

DragonTails, Veggietales, and any of the Kids songs videos.

I FINALLY got the LeapPad for Maverick and he LOVES it!! Now I need to

invest in the books but they grow with him so that's cool.

ANY musical instrument is a hit here. We have guitars, keyboards, drums, and

now bells.

He also loves CD's and Tapes mostly country.

And he LOVES the finger skateboards. I found a great set at Costco that he

can't take apart like and they last longer.

He's on his 2nd skateboard and 3rd scooter and 2nd bike. He outgrew the

Fisherprice roller blades so I think he will get some fitted roller skates

for his birthday. He can't do the roller blades, but is getting fairly

confident with the 4 wheels.

And we NEVER have enough basketballs.

All my kids get a basketball for Christmas every year.

This is a great idea.

Playdoh has worked somewhat. Paint, both finger and water, is a favorite.

We tried the Little People Village by Fisher Price. She likes it, but want s

mom and dad to play.

The hardest thing for us is Bridget wants us to play with her.

We got an indoor hopscotch set. She loves that. She also loves blocks,

puzzles, and balls.

We need some help with getting things that are not too complicated, not too

easy, and can be done alone. We get books and computer software.Bridget has

loved the Jumpstart series. Barney is still a favorite.

I could use some ideas on other videos to introduce her to.

Ha, ha!! This is cracking me up!! Is this what I have to look forward

to?!?! Mac loves his Barney and Wiggles, but hasn't yet learned how to push

all the buttons or use the remote (he's trying though). I can't wait!! :-)

Ha, ha!! This is cracking me up!! Is this what I have to look forward

Here's a suggestion for a gift from grandparents, aunts, uncles, older

cousins or sibs, friends......

Since my kids have everything they need and then some, and because we didn't

like our kids getting inundated with " stuff " from four sets of grandparents

(both dh and my parents are divorced), we created the idea of " outing

certificates " . In particular, my dad and his wife have latched onto the

idea. They give each kid two " outing certificates " every year at Christmas,

good for the day long or overnight outing of the child's choice. It's

interesting to see what the kids choose - my youngest ALWAYS picks an

overnight with them.....my youngest has chosen a bunch of different things

like trips to Marineland, or a riding lesson with my stepmom. Jimmy (10,

DS) usually picks dinner and a movie, or a trip to the zoo....... Anyway,

it's a fun way for the kids to have " special times " with their grandparents.

Another thing I did last year in the same vein was make up " coupon books " for

the kids. That was their gift from dh and I. There were individual or

multiple tickets for stuff like go to a movie, go for an ice cream, read at

bedtime for an extra 15 minutes, pick what we have for dinner, a " pass " on

dinner (cereal or waffles instead!), stay up for an extra 1/2 hour, buy a

book, " special night " with mom, " special night " with dad, etc etc etc. They

have really gotten a kick out of using their tickets. This could be modified

for whatever your child's interests are.
