Guest guest
Three or four years ago asked Santa for a beard trimmer. (He knows but we still have fun with it.) This was a mall Santa. The next year when we went back Santa remembered him, out of all the kids he saw. Probably the only " kid " who ever asked Santa for a beard trimmer. Guest guest
What a wonderful idea for us to come here and list what worked or didn't work in the way of toys for our kids. My son is NOT interested in ANY toys, except for video's, which he has his favorites to watch, and maybe some action figures of WWF guys. We do buy those educational games you pick up at the teacher's stores like match games, bingo lottery, etc. and those seem to work okay. Any other suggestions for a child who just doesn't like toys is greatly appreciated...oh, he loves video games but hasn't a clue as to how to " play " them. Hugs,

Guest guest
OH, Videos are always a hit here. We have graduated from Barney to Arthur, DragonTails, Veggietales, and any of the Kids songs videos. I FINALLY got the LeapPad for Maverick and he LOVES it!! Now I need to invest in the books but they grow with him so that's cool. ANY musical instrument is a hit here. We have guitars, keyboards, drums, and now bells. He also loves CD's and Tapes mostly country. And he LOVES the finger skateboards. I found a great set at Costco that he can't take apart like and they last longer. He's on his 2nd skateboard and 3rd scooter and 2nd bike. He outgrew the Fisherprice roller blades so I think he will get some fitted roller skates for his birthday. He can't do the roller blades, but is getting fairly confident with the 4 wheels. And we NEVER have enough basketballs. All my kids get a basketball for Christmas every year. Guest guest
This is a great idea. Playdoh has worked somewhat. Paint, both finger and water, is a favorite. We tried the Little People Village by Fisher Price. She likes it, but want s mom and dad to play. The hardest thing for us is Bridget wants us to play with her. We got an indoor hopscotch set. She loves that. She also loves blocks, puzzles, and balls. We need some help with getting things that are not too complicated, not too easy, and can be done alone. We get books and computer software.Bridget has loved the Jumpstart series. Barney is still a favorite. I could use some ideas on other videos to introduce her to. , mom to Bridget 8, ds , Mom to Bridget, 8, who happens to have Ds ---------------------------------

Guest guest
progressed from Barney to Arthur. Would Bridget like Arthur? Great computer games with Arthur too. still loves Barney, but I have since hidden all those videos and he asks me why all the time. I tell him because he's 14 and too big to watch Barney. Guest guest
Here's a suggestion for a gift from grandparents, aunts, uncles, older cousins or sibs, friends...... Since my kids have everything they need and then some, and because we didn't like our kids getting inundated with " stuff " from four sets of grandparents (both dh and my parents are divorced), we created the idea of " outing certificates " . In particular, my dad and his wife have latched onto the idea. They give each kid two " outing certificates " every year at Christmas, good for the day long or overnight outing of the child's choice. It's interesting to see what the kids choose - my youngest ALWAYS picks an overnight with them.....my youngest has chosen a bunch of different things like trips to Marineland, or a riding lesson with my stepmom. Jimmy (10, DS) usually picks dinner and a movie, or a trip to the zoo....... Anyway, it's a fun way for the kids to have " special times " with their grandparents. Another thing I did last year in the same vein was make up " coupon books " for the kids. That was their gift from dh and I. There were individual or multiple tickets for stuff like go to a movie, go for an ice cream, read at bedtime for an extra 15 minutes, pick what we have for dinner, a " pass " on dinner (cereal or waffles instead!), stay up for an extra 1/2 hour, buy a book, " special night " with mom, " special night " with dad, etc etc etc. They have really gotten a kick out of using their tickets. This could be modified for whatever your child's interests are.

Guest guest
This reminds me of a student with Ds that I had in my class last year. He was a pretty slow moving, passive, friendly type of kid. He used to go to study hall two days a week and a peer/friend would walk him back to our room (just to make sure he didn't get into any mischief). After about two months of this routine with the same peer, who knew him fairly well, Kurt (kid with Ds) " attacked " the other boy on the return to our class. He grabbed him and banged him into the lockers and put him in a headlock... The kid was blown away and Kurt was a little bigger (weight wise a lot bigger) than this kid, but this kid could have defended himself, but didn't because he didn't know what was going on, didn't want to hurt Kurt and didn't want to get in trouble. Another kid saw this happening and went and got a teacher and she broke it up and they came and got me. Bottom line...Kurt wasn't being mean, he was imitating WWF, big-time wrestling, something his family enjoys and participates in regularly--he was just " playing " . Kurt got into trouble and was sent home with his parents that day. The poor other kid was pretty much in shock, with a few red marks on his face/neck, but recovered. So they can (and some will) take what they watch a little too seriously--luckily this happened in a school where everyone knew Kurt--had he done it in the wrong place, to the wrong person he could have really been hurt or gotten in BIG trouble. Jill > Yes, Yes, Yes!! It's amazing how much violence is in these Disney movies. > Now here is what scares me.....I'm so afraid he will begin to mimic some of > the action in these films. Guest guest
and have one of those big wheels at their grandparents house. They love rolling around in it! Also, they have the large balls with the handles that are the hopping balls (can't remember the name, but you sit on them, hold the handles and bounce). They come in different sizes. They love bouncing on them, and falling off! There is a Sesame Street video that I also can't remember the name of, but it is something like Exercise with Elmo, or something similar. It really puts a fun spin on exercising, and just plain moving around and being active. We have had it for several years, and the girls still like it. I especially like it on rainy days, it keeps them moving. Sharon Christmas Shopping > Hi all, > Here are some toy hits and misses at our house and also some toys that have been really popular with our Toy Chest program. > This year the boys ( 2 1/2 and 4 1/2) are gettin this big inflatable tractor wheel I saw in a catalog called " Back to Basics " Toys. It looks like lots of fun 41 " in diameter - kids can roll it or get in the middle of the wheel and push it. Not too expensive either. > > Big hit - large super balls 30 " in diameter, great for indoor or outdoor, large cardboard blocks that look like bricks. > > Videos---- best ones out right now in my opinion are Sesame Street's " Do the Alphabet " and " 123 Count with ME " . My 2 year old can count to 20 and knows his entire alphabet thanks to Big Bird and Ernie. The songs are great and will get everyone up and dancing. > Jodi
