I will be 57 next month - was diagnosed with arthritis when I was 17. In

my early to mid 30's I was diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis along with two

other types. Being a foster baby and then adopted I lacked medical history

all my life. My 34 year old son is starting to show signs of PA which

really makes me sad. I found my birhmom 9 years ago and asked for medical

history. There is no known arthritis sufferers from a younger age but my

great-aunt was wheel-chair bound for many years so she is most likely my

connection. Back then they told you if it hurts, don't do it. They had no

meds like we do now.

Currently I talke MTX (which I have taken for about 25 years), bextra since

last winter/spring, folic acid (don't forget to take it!)

prevacid...........what PA person who has tried all the non-steriodal drugs

doesn't need this drug, and enbrel injections twice a week. I am also on a

few other drugs for other accumulatiave health issues. I was on remicade

infusions for about 4 1/2 years and they were good but after even moving

them to 6 weeks apart, I was miserable and was then changed to enbrel.

Currently I'm maxed on drugs (per rheumy) and have such awful pain in hip,

lower back and pelvic. Had bone scan, x-rays and there showed inflamation.

Now doing PT w/e-stim, ultrasound and some mild manipulation along with 2

exercizes. If this doesn't work in 2 weeks for relief he said he would try

some injections into the SI, pelvic and hip joint where my leg and hip join.

Not looking forward to that so hoping for some relief from the PT.

To answer the age question...

I'm in Northern Idaho (the states), I'm 41 and I've had P for about 21

years and PA for 19 years... That said, I've been very lucky ~ I had a major

flare up 19 years ago(when they didn't know about PA and there were no real

drugs) and then just minor issues until this spring... It wasn't until this

spring I was finally diagnoised, although I kept telling the doctors this is

what was wrong... :)

I'm Kathy, live in NYC, will be 56 this year. Diagnosed with RA when I was 16

and with PA about 4 years ago when the first signs of P appeared. 40 years of

living with arthritis - happy anniversary to me! However, my life has been

filled with much joy and I wouldn't trade it for someone else's.

Hi

Margaret - UK - 58 (just-last weekend), first major flare summer 2001,

diagnosed Jan 2002, P 6/12 months prior, although I have had very bad dandruff

for

ever - makes you wonder if it was P. Also various aches and pains, which

were dismissed as being 'just one of those things' for a few years

>Hi. I'm Carolyn and I'm 47. My symptoms began about 3 1/2 yrs.

ago. It took me over two years to get diagnosed. My rhummy jsut

told me on Tues. that he's not certain now. I have to go back to a

(new) dermmy now and start the process all over on confirming this

dx. I thought that I had come so far with the acceptance of this

diease and have become so proactive since joining this group. I

now wonder if I'm going to lose all of you if my diagnosis is

changed AGAIN. I think that I can handle just about anything if I

know what I am dealing with. I have a very well respected rhummy

who seemd to be so on top of everything. All my other docs always

say how through he is. I trusted him to know and now he doesn't and

I don't feel so " proactive " any longer. How can I direct my energy

to being such when I don't know what to be proctive about any

longer? The docs don't like the wait and see any longer than I do.

The only problem is that I am the one who is suffering and so very

sad right now over this.

I'm in Kansas City MO. I've had symptoms of P

and A since age 11, diagnosis of PA at age 41 -- with

30 years of mis-diagnoses in between!

Hi Carolyn,

I'm sorry to hear that your diagnosis has been thrown into doubt again. Why

is the doc wavering? Did he give a reason for doubting himself? Even if it

turned out to be something else, I for one would let you stay in the group

anyway. lol Seriously though I hope it doesn't take them too long to make up

their minds.

With regard to meeting in Miami. Will you pay my airfare? lol
