Alfredo,

We have a member of this site from Chile where, unfortunately, few medicines

are available to combat PA. Is the same true in Peru? Are there many

rheumatologists and if so, are they located primarily in Lima or can they be

found

throughout the country? What medications are typically prescribed to treat

PA in your country?

Glad to have you here.

too, as i work about 55hrs/week. Doc wants me to start biologics (eg

mxt), but i dont want too until i have had babies :)

Candy...I used to work those kinds of hours...have you ever thought about

long term disability and if your company offers it? Changing my hours (3 days

a week now, about 25-30 hours) was the best thing I ever did...so far,

sticking only with Bextra and Sulfasalazine and doing OK:-)

For all practical purposes it probably doesnt matter but to prevent confusion

I just wanted to note that Methotrexate is not a biologic. Orin

[Editor's Note: Orin's right. MTX is a DMARD. The biologics include Remicade,

Enbrel and Humira. This could be important in case is prepared to move

onto DMARDs but not Biologics or vice versa. Kathy F.]

Hi Kathy, about your questions here in Peru the follow drug are in currently use

for PA: Sulfazalina, Metotrexate, Ciclofosfamide and NSAIDs. There are rheumys,

but they are located primarilly in Lima, some of them can be found in Arequipa,

the second largest city of Peru, Trujillo, a one million people city in the

north of peruvian coast.

Here in Peru the first election drug for PA is MTX.

Greetings,
