Guest guest Posted September 16, 2006 Report Posted September 16, 2006 I've got a shelf full of alternative cancer books and recently found this one: www.reversingcancer.com. It's an e-book and contains 350 cures. Some are nutrients like foods, mushrooms, herbs, etc along with other therapies and protocols like Hulda 's and Budwig's to mention a few you already know. It also came with a few bonus books which I haven't read yet. One lists 2000 testimonials of those who have cured their various cancers. The main book is about 450 pages and quite well organized with live links to access further details. It's a pretty good buy compared to a lot of the other ones I've bought in the past for more money. Guest guest Posted September 17, 2006 Report Posted September 17, 2006 My take on alternitive cures. Every disease is a physilogical interaction. It might be a forign substance such as a poison or an invader like bacteria or viruses, it might be genetics such as seen in sickle cell and in some cases such as Scurvey it is a nutritional imbalence. Some diseases are just the effect of imbalences in the body such as not enough seritonin. So far what little we undestand about cancer the body starts growing mutated cells. Some cancers like Cervical cancer are caused by a virus. Some cancers are caused by exposure to radiation (such as sunlight's ultraviolet spectrum) thus causing a disruption in our very DNA. Most cancers are poorly understood. We know that certain substances will make us more likely to get cancer. Not all smokers, not even the majority I think die of lung cancer. Not all exposed to large amounts of asbesteos die or even show signs of asbesteous or however you spell it. So cancer has multiple causes. Thus nothing can cure all cancer. Plain simple. There is no wonder cure that will take on every or probably even half the cancers out there. You cannot rearrange DNA with vitamens. Cetain viatimes may help soak up residual radiation if taken imediately after exposure. Some viatimins may be good at soaking up free radicals. Something that is suspected as a contributer in many diseases. What they will not do is kill a virus. You will not get rid of cervical cancer by taking any amount of B17. You have to kill the virus or remove the infected areas. Since it's not so much the virus but the machinery left behind apparently that causes the mutatation killing the virus may not be enough. If massive doses of B17 killed viruses it would also be the cure for the cold, flu and AIDS. So I'm very skeptical about B17 curing any kind of virus. Certain herbs may contain something which inhibits the growth of cancer cells. Many of our medicines today are based on herbal medicines used by one culture or another at one time. Studies found they worked, then after a large amount of research they isolated what worked in the medicine and synthsized just that. So the odds are good that there are more out there. Since we do not understand the mechanisms of cancer very well we have lilttle to predict the effectiveness of a given plant's extracts. What we can do is dismiss the cure all claims by the simple fact there is no such thing when it comes to cancer. To claim a blanket cure for cancer is like claiming that it will also help you with colds, amputated limbs, a headache and a 100 other totally unrelated things. Cancer isn't one disease. It is a broad name for multiple diseases. Multiple diseases with multiple causes. Even specific cancers such as colen cancer may have multiple causes. Second, having known a number of doctors. I find it very offensive to see people claim this or that about doctors. That would be like picking out a skin color and claiming all people of that skin color are xyz. They are not. There are good and bad doctors. They are just people. They are also people screened very rigerously for any behavior which would be deemed as pyschotic. Especially the Doctors that people normally come in contact with are people that got into medicine to help people. Orthapods and surgical pursuits are where you see more of the arrogance and greed. There is even a world wide organization of doctors called doctors without frontiers who volenteer time and efforts. Risk thier lives even to provide free medical care to the underserved. I'm sorry, I see no difference between racism and the doctor bashing I see going on with this list. I also feel that is somebody wants to champion a subject they should research that subject. The cure all claims I'm hearing. Especially the yoga can only work on most cancers if the cancer is purely a pyschological manifestation. They obviously have zero medical benifit from a physilogical standpoint as nothing can cure all cancers. Yet I am hearing all I have to do is my yoga, eat lots of vegitables and take massive doses of certain viatimins and I can magically cure all kinds of cancer. It don't work that way folks. If we were talking about the cold, ok there are only what 100 different strains of the cold and they are all closely related. There are what 1,000+ types of cancer? There are how many possible causes of cancer? Anybody ever heard of Oscam's razor? As for the pharmacutal company conspiracy charges. If it's true then by presenting reasoned and fact based presentations of a cure that works but is obstructed by the big drug companies be proof enough for people to make up thier own minds? Is it really necessary to act like everyone on this list is 3 years old and have to be told what to think? I think most people on this list are perfectly capable of drawing thier own conclusions based on factual information and logic. There is no need to go on and on and on in multiple messages. This is a list group about cancer not a political commercial. This kind of evangelizing has a discrediting effect on valid charges of monpolizing and unethical behavior by the pharmacutical companies. Even if the extent is not exagerted or outright fabricated the lack of logical presentation makes it look like hysteria. The pulpit style brimstone hell fire force it down your throat presentation is going to have the opposite effect among most people. The charge of big drug companies having it out for the consumer is used in place of any kind of research, as an excuse not to back up a claim with facts. This tends to discredit the entire content, which is a diservice to any content that is actually true. Rolling a single truth in a pack of lies and exagerations makes that truth just as doubted. So often I hear about this cure all in the same message as anti-pharmacutical company claims. Obviously the cure all is bogus. Doesn't that cast doubt on the pharmacutical greed claims? That is a pity because there is a real reason to investigate the pharmacutical industry. It unfortunatatly plays right into the hands of big biz who can hold up these kinds of claims and just say " snake oil " and thus avoid having to be accountable for thier actions. Who loses? Everybody does thats who. On 9/16/06, rb2717 <robert-blau@...> wrote: > > > Intravenous Vitamin C. Guest guest Posted September 17, 2006 Report Posted September 17, 2006 Dan, You are certainly correct when you say that there are many types of cancer and there will never be just one pill to cure it. A vitamin does not kill a virus or reprogram DNA. Chemo, because it is a poison may kill cancer cells but it poisons and destroys everything else in it's path at the same time. Chemo does not attack the underlying problem or cause of cancer. It is my opinion that cancer is like mushrooms, it grows when the environment is favorable. When provided with warm, damp, loom (dead or decaying matter) mushrooms grow. When there is too much sun, not enough moisture or dry sand no mushrooms grows. Our bodies are incredible machines that are programed to run and repair itself as long as the tools and supplies are available in sufficient amounts. Our bodies need clean air, clean water and nutrient rich food. Unfortunately these simple things are harder and harder to come by all the time. Are lives are bombarded by chemicals and toxins at every turn. Are systems are depleted and therefore when we reproduce the next generation starts at a disadvantage. Cancer takes advantage of these disadvantages and puts down roots. If our bodies are not up to the fight, cancer takes over. There are many kinds and types of cancer what they all have in common are that they are mutant cells that reproduce mutant cells. If we were giving our bodies and minds what they need to survive and prosper CANCER could not take root. All the vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and yoga will help your body fight, reducing chemicals and stress in your environment will also help your body and mind be at it's best. There will never be a vaccine or pill that will end cancer because is the breaking down of the bodies ability to heal itself. Only by building up your body's system can any of us hope to beat cancer in the long run. All the systems are tied together; the immune system fights invasion and free radicals but the digestive system has to be running right the get the nutrients from our food to fuel the immune system. the lymph system, circulatory system etc....... must all work together to keep the machine running. So the key is get rid of chemicals...........find nutrient rich food..........reduce stress..... think positive............... do everything possible to support your system. Vaccines and prescription drugs work against your system not with it. Dan <draciron@...> wrote: My take on alternitive cures. Every disease is a physilogical interaction. Guest guest Posted September 17, 2006 Report Posted September 17, 2006 Chemo is based on the same principles that caused docs to give people mercury for many years. Radiation therapy is again based on the same principle. They poison you or specific parts of your body hoping that the body as a whole is stronger than the areas affected by the cancer. Initially the results were only slightly better than no treatment at all. A certain number of people will go into remision, unfortunately many spontanious remissions come right back a year or two later and the " cured " is again struck with cancer. On the flip side some of those treated with chemo and radiation come back with cancer possibly caused by the chemo and radiation therapy many years later. So in essence they bought time. If you are 70 years old and the treatment buys you 5 years thats a big difference. If youa re 19 and you buy 5 years thats not much help. Obviously there are flaws in chemo and radiation therapy and something better needs to be found. Actually there IS a vacination against one kind of cancer. This gives great hope against other kinds caused by viral infections. The vacination against the virus which causes cervical cancer is ready for mainstream use. The question being debated right now is not it's effectiveness but what age to give it. Far as I'm concerned give it at age 10 so there's no doubt that they are covered. Can you picture a world without pap smears? It's coming. Future generations along with smallpox and other diseases will also be vacinated against several types of cancer. Whole types of cancer will probably cease to exist except in very rare instances. Will it cure cancer? Nope, because not all cancer is caused by viral infection. I agree with you that increasing your bodies ability to fight off disease will help you fight off cancer. Yoga is a method for some to reduce stress. It would not have that effect with all people, possibly not even half. So Yoga is not a cure or even part of the cure it is just a tool that is helpfull for some to achieve a goal. That goal is to reduce stress. It is also for some an aid to focus. Somebody who is already not stressed and very focused will actually see detrimental effects from the stress of trying to learn/use Yoga. For some people Yoga is not going have the de-stressfull effect even if they are severly stressed. They might be a very social person who will only do Yoga as part of a group. As such they add stress by worrying about getting to the groups, about whether thier yoga clothing is clean enough, thier technique, about social interactions with other yoga people and the natural social hiearchies that develop in any group interaction humans participate in. So a better way to put it is that a person should reduce stress as much as possible both to reduce risk of cancer and also to fight cancer if it is contracted. Yoga may be an excellent tool for this for many people. It is one of many possible tool. Recreational drug use may turn out to be far more effective if it were legal. Marajuana in particuler. Remove the stress of aquiring it and the stress of it being illegal and many people can gather in hooka bars and remove all stress. Same effect different means. Social interation with focus on being as stress free as possible. Hand gliding might be another means of doing the same thing. Once off the cliff for some people the relaxation is increadible. Only a few people would find hand gliding recreational. My point is stress has many causes and relief tools. For me it is guitar. Yoga would just stress me out. I have too restless a mind for something so passive. I don't even have a TV hooked up to cable for the same reason as TV is too passive for me. The point is that it is stress reduction not the yoga itself that is benificial. The yoga is merely a tool for an end. Differnt people require different tools. Understanding that stress is itself the actual thing you are fighting is crucial for any tool to be usefull. Advocating the tool without understanding it's usage is like selling a chainsaw designed for a lumberjack to a physical therapist. Sure you could design exercises around it if you worked really hard at it but wouldn't it be better to understand the effect and thus tailor a tool that is truely practical to the user of the tool for the intended purpose? When you say fertile grounds for cancer, yes you are going to become more suceptible to cancer if certain conditions exist. Smoking is probably the most famous. There are ingredients in cigs which are commonly found in other substances which make people exposed to them more likely to develop cancer. What those elements are besides the heat is unknown. What is known is that heat at a certain level makes any animal's cells more pliant. So coffee and hot tea drinkers exchange one set of risk factors for another. Smokers, people who breath hot fumes on a reguler basis, etc also face these same kinds of risks. It may well turn out that skin cancer is a combination of the heat being the means of damage and the ultraviolet in the sunlight being the causitive effect which causes skin cancer. Stress has nothing to do with it unless stress is what put you out in the sunlight in the first place. Skin cancer is a simple matter of exposure to too much sun on an area. In particuler severe sun burns when you were young. It happens on exposed areas typically, at least the first ones do. They can spread from there, however sunscreen or better yet do not tan and avoid too much exposure to the sunlight and skin cancer can be prevented. For people who thru work or recreation are exposed frequently to long bouts of the sun things like a hat can do more than all the other " cures " in the world. Everything you take into your body will have an effect on it. So far research has shown if you feed a large enough dose of anything to a rat it will develop cancer from it. That would include viatimins. So again it's a matter of trading risks. How large the dose is with certain viatimins is hard to say. The multi-viatimins can be sometimes contain toxic doses of heavy metals if you take too much of it. With viatimin C apparently you have to take really massive doses to overide the bodies ability to get rid of excess viatimin C. For the most part your body takes as much viatimin C as it needs and you push out the rest. Being an ex-drug user and having and had many friends take extremely massive doses of viatimin C to help with passing urine tests one thing I do know is that if you take loads of viatimin C there will be loads of it in your urine. Too much viatimin C in your urine and you will fail a piss test because they will assume you are using viatimin C to foil the test. In short if you take an overload of many viatimins all you've done is change the nature of your urine. The body will only absorb as much as it decides it needs. Thus the need for IV application of Viatimin C in Vit C cures. Which to me sounds like it could be rather dangerous. There's a reason why the body discards excess viatimins. With some people they possess a naturally low threshold for absorbtion of certain viatimins/elements. For somebody with such a gentic defect there may be real value in injecting certain viatimins. There also might be an underlying cause which is why they are unable to absorb enough or aquire enough of a nutrient. Fix that cause and you avoid the inherent risks of injections and inevitable reaccurance of the disease. If it is a viatimin lack which caused the disease then that person for the rest of thier lives much continue that treatment or it will come back. Hemocritotus (sp) better known as Irish disease is the opposite. The body absorbs more iron than is good for it and long term the extra iron becomes toxic. The cause is a specific gene in most people and is almost always seen in people of Irish descent. (I have this gene and have been diagnosed with it, thus the particuler research into the subject. One of my uncles is suspected of getting liver cancer from the massive levels of iron in his blood) Irish disease is an example of what too much of a good thing can do to destroy the body. Any metal overload in the system is toxic. Overdoses of other viatimins have been linked to other conditions, mostly through genetic defects which cause a failure in the systems natural responses to reject excess amounts of a mineral, metal, viatimin in the digestive system. In fact some cancers are likely to be closely linked to such genetic defects. So it is possible with some cancers that diet can help by removing the irritant which caused the cancer in the first place. In the case of Irish disease removing high iron foods like Spinach, Raisans, etc is a good idea and may prevent that particuler person from getting cancer by not providing the necessary levels of a nutrient to become toxic. Intentionally taking high doses of a nutrient is risky since you are bypassing the bodies natural protection systems. It may however be necessary if a genetic defect prevents the proper levels of absorbtion of that nutrients. Reducing the quanity of other nutrients is also a means of fighting certain cancers. Will it prevent it completely? No it won't. It will just add/reduce your risks. How much is unknown because nobody is really studying this aspect. So one person who might have a rare cancer caused by a genetic defect which prevents the absorbtion of a certain levels of a nutrient can be " cured " by a viatimin overdose. Others it will make zero difference. Which cancers and what the gentic defect is, is exactly the kind of thing we need to research. It sure isn't going to help liver cancer, in fact liver cancer seems to be caused primarily by toxic overloads of nutrients or cancers from other places spread to the liver. Anybody cured of any cancer by viatimins should have a genome test. I suspect they will find a specific gene such as the gene that causes Irish disease which caused the problem though lack of absorbtion of a key nutrient or over absorbtion of a nutrient. There are suggestions that fiber helps prevent colen cancer. All fiber does is make sure you go on a reguler basis by building up bulk thus triggering the body to relieve that bulk. This would suggest that there is an element of exposure to toxic materials in the diet. What they are nobody knows since nobody is actually studying it. Many might turn out to be enzymes and bacteria normally found in foods. Perhaps it's molds that grow on foods or additives. At least one food color dye has been shown to be dangerous. I suspect we'll find more that are. A simple solution is to find out and remove them. The philosophy of organic foods is to reduce as much as possible external additives to foods. Organic food philosophy is based on the concept that each additive is a risk which provides no nutritional value. This is quite true with dyes especially. However if purely organic means were used we'd starve to death since preservitives are essential at this moment of our technological abilities. Our ability to grow and distribute food before equally toxic molds and bacteria infected the food is just not there on a mass scale. So a better solution is to find better ways of preserving foods without adding substances to it or changing our ability to eat the variety of foods we do. The technology is probably there but people consider additives good enough and safe enough. That combined with modern packaging which itself is quite possibly adding things unintentionally to our food. Think about it plastic is made from petroleum. In other words you are wrapping your food in solidfied oil byproducts. Oil products have proven over and over again to be carcigens. So it might not be the additives at all. It might be the packaging which is killing us. Add a trace of heat to that plastic and it might be leaking all kinds of nasties onto our food. Nasties which we then take into our bodies. Perhaps it's contact with an oxidization agent. Maybe something the food itself leaks interacts with the plastic. For years tomatoes were considered a poisonous food. The reason was they are acidic and when placed on lead laced dishes they leached the lead from the dishes and soaked it up providing lethal doses of lead. It wasn't the diet at all but a side effect of the diet with a dangerous practice. So wrapping certain foods in plastic may be producing an equally lethal combination. The Organic solution was to quit eating tomatoes which is what people did for hundreds of years. The logical solution was to investigate what was happening, discover it was lead and quit using lead in dishes. This allowed people to eat tomatoes to their heart's content. The reality is nobody thought to question why. They saw action and result but had no idea as to the cause of it. This lack of knowledge of the mechanics only delayed the enevitable lead poisoning. It removed the fastest means rather than the means entirely. Nobody studied WHY tomatoes introduced such high levels of lead to the body. Just as nobody has studied the effect of plastic under microwaves and what such actions might introduce to foods. There are enough variations in plastics that some might be very toxic and people who eat food wrapped with a give plastic or in paper printed with a specific ink then exposed to the heat of a truck transporting it and so on. It's just a big black hole. You throw things in, see what comes out. Not a good way of living in my opinion. It devolves quickly to superstition and inaccurate assumptions like the tomatoe example above. In short action without understanding is still inaction just slower inaction. Second diet is a very individual choice and need. A diet designed to " fight cancer " may well actually cause it in certain people. Just as there are many causes of cancer there are many people and making blanket statements is likely to be very inaccurate. A person with reduced ability to absorb certain elements may naturally gravitate twoards certain foods. Diet is far more than just taste buds. I don't know about you but I get cravings every so often for specific foods. Part of this craving I feel is that I need a certain nutrient. I go months at a time without drinking milk. Milk is not easy on my digestive track and I get most of my dairy products from eating cheese. However every once in a while I want a glass of milk out of nowhere even though I don't particulerly like the taste. I drink some milk and craving is solved and it might be six months before I drink another glass of milk. Whatever the nutrient is, possibly Viatimin D my body spoke up and said get some. My mind interpeted this and gave me a specific food to crave. So the body does offer feedback if you are willing to listen. Diet is however a very private thing. Anybody who attempted to make me a Vegan would fail miserably. Nor would anybody have a right to try to make a Vegan eat meat. It is a very private choice. It is generally quanity not the actual foods that can be a problem. Too much salt in your diet is not good for most people. Some people need it. Some people need it when they are doing specific things such as working in the sun a great deal but continue to eat high salt diets when they are not in such an environement. So there are too many variables dealing with environment, genetics, ability to absorb nutrients and artificial factors such as ingredients and packaging to make blanket statements about diet. What is a perfect diet for you might lead to severe nutritional problems for another or might be so high in a nutrient which they should not have such high doese of. You could probably not live well on some peoples diets yet those diets are pefect for them and thier lifestyle. Age, ethnicity, sex, levels of exercise, exposure to heat, bruising, and a host of other factors are crucial when deciding on any diet. So too is the purpose. A linebacker is not going to do well on a diet of seaweed and wheat germ for most people. There are some for whom that's the perfect diet even as a linebacker who wants to gain huge amounts of weight and who's target goal is to weigh at least 300 pounds. For a model a diet rich in fat and processed foods is probably a bad idea. A few can do it, most cannot eat that way and not gain noticable weight. Again many factors involved in deciding who can eat what and what effect that will have. A person with chronic diareah is probably not going to benifit at all from extra fiber. If might harm them actually. A person with chronic constipation should probably avoid a diet high in cheese or add large doses of fiber. My point again comes to how little we understand the mechanics involved and the huge varience between individuals. Not just between individuals but also thier temporal requirements which can change in as little as a week's time. Research has shown a positive outlook and strong deisre to survive is a huge factor in the success of any cancer treatment. Some find this through spirtual means (Church, Yoga, love of family) and some find it thorugh sheer raw grit. Again the means to the end is not the end itself. It is only a way to facilitate the goal. So a religious person is going to do better going to church than a yoga session. An athiest is going to find no help in a church by the same token. The goal is to have a positive attitude. One that increases your immune system's reaction. No magic in it. Just simple faith healing. The kind that's been practiced by shamens, barnstorming preachers and all sorts of spiritual healers going back to the dawn of time. For a small percentage of people that is probably all the help they need. For most people it's going to take more than wishfull thinking to get well. Though the wishfull thinking is a major factor in the success of the other methods of treatment. So we are down to exercise. Yes it has proven to be very benificial in all health care aspects. A great many diseases are directly linked to lack of exercise as a major factor in thier onset. So exercise is benifiicial to all if done with respect to your own body and the exercise routines are varied enough to avoid repetitive stress injury. Joggers in particuler suffer a large number of health issues due to thier choice of exercise. Jogging also happens to be one of the best exercises and most practical for many people. No special equiptment. Easy to make as part of a routine. Easy routine to maintain. Long term joggers who are not allowed to job at least periodically will actually crave jogging. This is balenced with knee and ankle stress as well as other impact injuries. Especially for people who jog regulerly on hard surfaces such as concrete, pavement or hard packed clay. So again exercise, what level and what type is very individualistic and full of trade offs. So again exercise is a tool to a means. The means being physical fitness. An very helpfull tool in warding off or fighting most disease but not every disease. My uncle could have jogged till he was exhausted every day. He was an ex-Marine and stayed in decent shape actually. He had a little time bomb in him. Normal diet produced far too much iron in his system. Exercise would not/did not change anything. Stress levels, diet that did not exclude iron, yoga, none of that was going to save my uncle. What would have was having heard of this disease, a simple genetic or blood iron test then giving blood on a reguler basis as well as avoiding high iron foods. This is one instance where no drugs were involve and cancer could have been avoided most likely. Several of my relitives have tested positive for this condition and by following that treatment have significantly reduced thier iron levels. I have as well by modifying my diet to reduce iron intake. Last test was still on the high side of norm but within tolerances. So I do see value in non-drug treatments. All it takes is understanding the mechanics. That is essential to treating anything. Until you understand why it works it isn't going to work for most people much less all. By not understanding the mechanics there is a real risk of creating even more damage. That is one of the core failures of traditional treatment as well. The lack of understanding in the mechanics has people on chemo who not only do not benifit from it but actually suffer damage from it I feel. For some people with certain cancers chemo can be a lifesaver. Why it works or doesn't work, why other treatments work or don't work is a fundemental lack of knowledge about the mechanics. Any real treatment requires a knowlege of the mechancis of the condition. This will allow for the huge number of variables that are present in the human condition and allow reasonable risks to be undertaken. If you don't know how it works your just waving a wand and going with the preponderance of statistics availible to you. Guest guest Posted September 17, 2006 Report Posted September 17, 2006 Not alot apparently. I'm getting what appears to be my first skin cancer removed sometime soon. The Doc who diagnosed it pointed to his arm showing me the tiny scar where he had his first one removed. When I was a child there was no understanding of the link between cancer and sunlight exposure. So we as parents can prevent overexposure hopefully with our children thus removing the need for them to go thru this when they get to be our age. Depends on the type of skin cancer as there are more than one type of skin cancer. If treated early most are easy to cure. I've heard that asperin is actually good against one type. Mostly it's just a simple removal of affected area. I personally got huge doses of sunlight as a child & young adult as well as 2nd degree burns from sun burns a few times. Sun burns by the hundreds at least LOL. I don't tan very well. Even got what is called sun poisoning once. Had never heard of it until I moved to Florida and didn't give it much thought till one day on the beach I fell asleep. Couldn't put my boots on the next morning my feet were so badly burned and swollen. So it's no surprise to me that I'll develop skin cancer if I live long enough. Luckily most types of skin cancer are easily treated and not especially dangerous. Some good basic info about skin cancer here. http://www.cancercenter.com/skin-cancer.cfm I've heard a few claims that " multi-purpose " enzymes help both with digestion and that diet can somehow affect whether or not you get skin cancer. I have zero confidence in them. The sun damaged the DNA of the affected area. How diet can change this I'd like to hear. Claims of also boosting your " anti-cancer " fighting system also to me sound as baseless. If for nothing else the multiple causes of cancer. Perhaps you can limit damage from skin cancer or speed recovery once it's removed. I suspect diet has zero impact on skin cancer. It spreads slowly. Would not poor diet speed it's spread if diet had a major impact? Anyway it's easily fixed if you catch it early. Rarely spreads to other organs for most types of skin cancer. Trying to avoid it might cause bigger problems not so easily solved.
