My birth name is Debbie and I'm from the northwestern

suburbs of chi-town (chicago) I realize that I must go

on antidepressants but the only thing is they cant

even guess when I would start treatment. I hate the

thought of going on antidepressants but Im not in any

hurry, My dr. would put me on them now if I let him

and I'm not sure what kind I should start on that

works any suggestions? Debbie

The SSRI antidepressants are extremely helpful at taking

the edge off of and eliminating depression. I've spent

the last 10 years working in mental health and sometimes

I think we should add them to the water<G>. I always

find it interesting that people are so resistant to the

use of medications to treat the brain. The brain is just

another organ in your body, as is your liver, heart,

skin, etc. Antidepressants basically restore the

chemical balance of brain functioning.

There are several good antidepressants. The choice of

which one to use is best made by your Dr. I've used

Luvox for 7 yrs with great success. Paxil, Celexa,

Effexor, and Zoloft are also good. Effectiveness depends

your personal brain chemistry and response. Working with

a Dr. and a counselor can be extremely helpful.

If you prefer not to use antidepressants, working with a

social worker, counselor, or psychologist may be enough.

However, if thoughts of suicide, dying, or depression

impact your functioning, appropriate medications are

necessary.

Debbie,

If you are interested in a good psychiatrist I would

suggest looking up Louis Mini, MD. 708-614-4014.

I have professionally worked with him for 2 years when

he was here in South Bend, IN working at our community

mental health center. He has a good reputation in the

medical community and with his patients here in South

Bend, IN.

Feel free to use my name. I haven't had contact with him

in about 6 years.

I also posted some info about depression to the list.

The meds are well worth doing.

Jan have hubby & the kids to do the cooking & the cleaning up afterwards. Your job for the next few weeks is to take care of your self. It would be good for them to do this. They will know how hard you work taking care of them & the house.

There seems to be quite a variety of antidepressants used, I think it depends a lot on the individual case. I was put on Wellbutrin and it seemed to give me a little energy boost too. We're almost neighbors! I am from Milwaukee, although I have been living in Green Bay for the past 10 years. We're about 200 miles north of you. Not a bears fan are you? :) -dz-

Jan you listen to me.... you go and you go right now. I mean it you don't want this thing to lay you low again. If you go maybe they can just do an IV antibiotic and let you go home. You fool with it you might be in the hospital for days on end. I really hope you didn't wait for a fever to rise before going to the ER - systemic infections often of fluctuation fevers between normal and very high and are life threatening - please write tomorrow and tell us you went in and got anti-biotics. Pat

Welcome to our group, Bruce. I know I started antidepressants along with the treatment and while I have been off the treatment for 4 mos. I'm still on the antidepressants. I have been treated for ADHD and some of the symptoms mirror those of depression, so I'm not sure if there isn't a little of both at work. Wellbutrin has the added advantage for ADHD of having a slight stimulant effect that seems to improve my focus. I am taking less ritalin now. I also have type 1b. They told me that it was more common in Europe, but it seems to have made the trip accross the Atlantic.. :) I am hoping to remain undetectable, I finished treatment a few months ago. -dz-

Hi Bruce

I'm also type 1b. I have been on treatment twice since 1996. Seems I reach

undetectable levels then relapse when the treatment is finished. 1b is

supposed to be one of the types that is easier to clear.
