Congratulations Hans - and I hope your journey into becoming a Grand Dad will be smooth. If your daughter is taking levothyroxine, then this would need to be increased during her pregnancy, but her doctor should know all about this. The baby makes its own thyroxine and other thyroid hormones, but the stress of being pregnant means she will need more. Here are a couple of links you might want to show your daughter http://www.thyroid-info.com/articles/pregnancy.htm and http://thyroid.about.com/cs/pregnantfertility/a/pregnancy.htm. Any questions you need to ask, just shout.

Luv - Sheila

Thanks. It seems odd, though, that the thyroid problems run from over-active to (perhaps) under-. The daughter in question is pregnant for the 1st time, and I shall be scanning the messages to see what wisdom there is on that topic.Best wishes -- Hans>> Hi Hans,> Welcome to the list- I hope you find the info you are looking for.> It is very common for thyroid problems to run in families- I'm third> generation with a nervous daughter!> >

Thanks for the " coconut candy " recipe! I'll be interested in hearing

how you progress. Did your endo mention 's syndrome? Most of

those with it have red hair. Do you have issues with fibromyalgia?

I'm not sure what fibromyalgia is actually so I don't think I have it. Never

heard of 's. I am in really good health overall--I ran 4 marathons in

the last 2.5 years and 5 half marathons plus a ton of smaller races. I stopped

running in November 2007 because of plantar fasciitis and also the endo said the

distance was too much and I was pretty exhausted. Now I walk every day, usually

about 1.5 to 4 miles and I'm slowly thinking about starting jogging but in

moderation.

The problem was I never lost a pound with all the exercise and it was very very

frustrating. Oh and the red hair--I have some red hair but mostly it is

naturally brownish red but I am really fair.

I slept like a log last night after having coconut milk with some melted VCO in

it and cacao and stevia--it was so rich and delicious.

I also have adult acne and, although it defies intuition, I have put coconut oil

on my extremely oily skin before bed (it's even oily here in Colorado at 6,000

feet elevation!) and my few spots of acne have (seemingly miraculously) cleared

up.

Not sure about the weight thing but I do feel less puffy.

I'll keep reporting back.

I'm very curious.........why does your Endro have you on Synthroid AND

Armour??? Does she feel you need more T4 than the T$/T3 ratio that is in

Armour???

The Armour has not been very effective so she is trying this.

We'll see how it works...

Liz,

I've been looking at the Fibro Recovery Group website. It has excellent

information! Is it safe to supplement with Iodine and where do you buy it? I

thought I read somewhere that it can throw off the thyroid? When I used

Morton's salt I didn't worry about it, but now I use sea salt which has trace

amounts of Iodine I think.

Thanks,

Beth

Hello, what a wonderful group you have here. I'm so impressed with

the great undersding and support of coconut this site offers. VCO is

wonderful.

I'm a temporary moderator for the fibromyalgia regovery group, and

the reason I'm posting is to point out that we have something great

in common. We both have a great interest in natural sources of anti-

microbial substances. If anyone is intersted in what we are doing

with iodine, you can check out our site www.fibromyalgiarecovery.com

and from there you can find the group. For those trying to rid

the body of harmful micro-organisms, you may want to look at the

iodine consumption in Japan as it compares to the U.S.

It's funny, my father is a retired pharmacist, and I'm studying to

become a traditional naturopath. I've been trying to convince my

parents that organic unrefined coconut oil is helpful, not harmful,

but they look at me with that half smile and a little blush, as if

Beth, have you seen the studies that nail low growth hormone

production as the main culprit behind fibromyalgia? I've used this

science to reverse a few peoples' fibro and maybe you could do the

same :)

Hello Beth

If you Search the archives for this group, you will

find a lot of info about Iodine.  It is worth the effort, too.

To go the archives, look in this email on the right side of

the page; there is a link you can click on to take you to

visit this group's home page.  Click where it says " Visit Your

Hi Beth,

I use Iodoral iodine and am so glad that I discovered my new(er) doctor with his

iodine and supplement program.

There are a number of groups that you can join to learn more about iodine

supplementation .. one being:

iodine

Celtic sea salt is great for you, but it has very little iodine in it.  Not

enough (really) to do you much good .. as far as iodine supplementation.  Keep

up with the using the Celtic Sea Salt.  You will see benefits in many other

ways.

You can purchase the Iodoral iodine through quite a few sites.  These are a few:

Breastcancerchoices.org

illnessisanoption.com

VRP.com

Hi Beth,

No .. I'm sorry.  I realize now that I responded to a post that you posted to

Liz.  I do not have fibromyalgia.  I DO have Graves disease and mutiple hormone

issues that was not being addressed through " conventional " therapy.

My dr. is Dr. Brownstein in W. Bloomfield, MI.  It is a 2 1/2 hour drive for me,

but well worth it.

The iodoral .. and balancing it with the rest of Dr. B's individualized

supplement program has definitely helped me with all of my thyroid/hormone

symptoms. I have read (as Liz states) that fibromyalgia is addressed with iodine

and additional balancing supplements.

Hello Ella, I know exactly what you mean by sometimes people think

you may be faking the extreme tiredness. It is very irritating. I know

that I am thought to be just 'lazy' by some, but I cannot fight the

exhaustion that finds me daily. The smallest job and I am wiped out.

I hate this the most I think. I have a strong will and having this

disease take me over this way is alarming. And having to prove the

condition makes it that much worse. I pray my hair wont thin anymore.

I suffer from thinning hair already. The sores have kept me from

showing me legs for two summers now and the heat is reaching 100%.

What bothers me the most about this whole disease is that the people I

love cannot understand.

Hi everyone,

I new to this group. I just wanted to share some of myself with you.

Over years of back pain, I,m finally going for surgery. I will be

having a spine fusion on october 16th. The will be using a piece of my

hip bone, and replacing my L-5 disk. So far I have been told I have,

degenerating disk diseases, lumbar spondylosis , and arthritus

spinal stenosis, I'm sure some of this is somewhat the same thing just a

different word. All with in this past year and from the same Dr.

Do you have any advise for me? What will I be looking at for the

future and is this enough to collect disability ?

Thanks Diane

Diane,

As far as your question is this enough to collect disability? Maybe or

maybe not. Depends on what type of work you have been doing. If the

question is do you have surgery and then bamb you collect.absolutely not.

You can not even begin collecting (for LTD) till day 91. For STD it

depends on you waiting period, some is 7 days and some is 14. If you are

not disabled now...and surgery goes well..NO you should not be disabled.

This should fix your problem not make it worse. From experience,,,,,,

most people with back problems are not granted SSD the first time applying.I

received the first time I applied BUT I have the back problems with 2 back

surgeries PLUS severe crohns on TPN, and RA and severe medical problems. I

do not believe that I would have been awarded based soley on my back. BTW

after my first surgery I was pain free for 1.5 years and continued to work.

The second surgery was is 5/06 and I was pain free up until now when I have

now been diagnosed with adhesive arachnoiditis or aka failed back syndrome.

Good luck to you.

OK, I really hate to tell people that they are wrong. What you have

said is only partially true. Social Security will not turn you down

if you are able to work some, but are not considered gainfully

employed. For example I make $500 per YEAR which comes to about $41

per month. When I work for 1-2 hours per week I am unable to work the

rest of the week. I am not gainfully employed, but cannot sit around

and not make some money for personal needs until my SSD comes through.

Even if she has a doctor that states she is disabled, the likelyhood

of being turned down is just as high as someone without a current

treating physician. SSD operates on their own schedule and does not

really pay attention to the doctor reports and such. The people

making the determinations get paid according to the number of files

that are denied or so it seems. I know many people that are severely

disabled with their treating physicians stating the facts of their

case and yet, they are turned down for benefits 3-4 times before they

are able to get what they have already worked for!!!

SSD is a very sticky subject with me, but I'm just hear telling the

truth based on what I've experienced and seen first hand.

I wish you all the luck in the world getting SSD.

I’m also going by first hand experience with them also. you never want to

mention partial disability or part-time work to them. That brings you to their

attionention big time. You always want total disabled. After you get it started

and you want to work a little you can get in that program they have for people

to try it. It took 5 weeks for my ssd to be approved. 3 weeks after that I took

early retirement, and a month latter the private ltd insurance kicked in. From

the tone of your letter it sounds like a attitude may be the reason for all your

problems with them.

You mean you work in pain up to two hours a week for $41 a month? Even if it

took 6 months for your SSD to get approved all that would mean is giving up

$240. Full SSD is a heck of a lot of money every month to lose just trying to

keep $41

and they very much pay attention to the doctors reoprts . they got my files from

the 3 doctors I listed. And latter two of them told me every time they turned

around SS was on the phone wanting to know about someting on the records.

The amount your allowed to make in the trial return to work is 900 dollars a

month to be considered gainfully employed. One on trial to work may do this

for nine full months and still receive full benefits. The term or initials

I believe is SGA….BUT someone who is working making more then the 900 a

month MOST would not be approved for SSD.

Subject: Re: Introducing myself

I wish you all the luck in the world getting SSD.

>

> if your working even temporary off and on you can give up on

getting SS disability. If one of the primary care doctors that has

worked on you or the one thats working on you now hasn¢t disabled

you. you can forget about getting it.

I keep getting the little pamphlets about it from them trying to talk me into

trying it. Finely I put a letter in one and sent it back explaining to them that

3 major operations in 2 years doesnt leave me much time to try any thing. and

its been a while since I have heard from them. Really I see no reason to try it

anyway. Except for all my pain. I’m happy the way it is.

I will admit that I do have attitude. It's the only reason that I am

still alive and have not taken my own life because of the pain. I did

not work at all for 4 years. I was doing everything that they told

me. They got my doctor's reports that clearly state that I cannot

lift anything over 10 pounds, that I cannot walk without some form of

assistance and still I am turned down. I have reports from 5

different doctors that state I am disabled and that the problems with

my spine cannot be repaired and why, yet I've been turned down twice.

I don't have money to pay a doctor any longer and I don't have a

husband or partner to assist me with money. They won't even send me

to one of their doctors for evaluation. They may have looked at your

medical records, but I can assure you that they have NOT looked at

mine! They even had a doctor that has never seen me and as far as I

know has never spoken to any of the doctors that I was seeing write a

medical report that I could lift 50 pounds frequently throughout a

work day inspite of the fact that I have doctor reports that state

otherwise! The one thing they did read was that I am not able to sit

for more than 10 minutes at a time and that was included in my

ability to work report!

I did not start off this journey with the attitude that I have now,

but have adopted it partially as a result of their stupidity. I don't

do stupid people at all any longer. I will be nice and cordial with

whom ever I must meet or speak to, but I do NOT understand how they

can so flippantly turn down people that are in need of assistance and

have paid into the system. If the system is broke, then state to the

country that the system is BROKE, otherwise, get off their butts and

do the job that they are paid to do!

this is sorta long

Well you are between  the rock and the hard place then. There is the “tv

lawyers” that will do a appeal for you  for no money. but then they get half the

back pay you recive. What I was told is they just sit in the office and keep

aggregating the SS till they give in. Is there another way you can start dealing

with another SS office some where else? Sounds like the one your using is just a

bunch fools.  its just different places thats all. I’ve never heard anything but

good stuff about this office here. I can tell this now because the man is dead.

He had so many thing wrong with him there was no way in the world he could ever

get a job much less hold one . But the SSD keep telling him he could do some

jobs. He told him to find him a job that he could do and he would sure take it.

Of all things they got him a job at a broom factory that just hired people like

him. On the third day he just fell out in the floor screaming as loud as he

could about

one leg hurt so bad he wanted some one to cut it off and he couldn’t feel the

other one. By the time the emts got him to the little hospital  he got his

feeling back in the one leg and now it hurt as much as the other one. When they

checked him over he had so many bad places in his back and neck. and stints in

his heart, and pins in his leg. that they had no idea where the pain was coming

from. After a week they gave him a months supply of pain pills and sent him

home. One of the doctors wrote him a statement saying that he would be on the

high powered pain pills the rest of his life. The SSD looked at the letter and

told him there was no way he could ever work and take those pills at the same

time. He got full payment. I’m not saying for any one to do that but where there

is a will most of the time there is a way.

I have to agree with you on the fact that it's the area that I'm

from, for the most part. I do know areas of the country that it's not

a problem at all. Here in California at least in the areas of

California where I have lived it's TOUGH to get it. I have herniated

disks in the cervical, thoracic and lumbar regions. At last count I

had 6, I think. I need the heavy duty narcotics to take care of the

pain and can't work when I take them. Of course, I can't work when I

don't either. Right now I'm still searching for a doctor that will

see me and treat me and file the necessary paperwork to SSD so that I

can keep this thing going.!

I tried Binder and Binder! They can only take 25% of the back or

$5000 which ever is less and that's Federal Law. They dropped me like

a hot potato when I asked them to send me to one of their doctors! Of

course, they did not have any doctors to send me to, so I was

dropped. I was not happy with them at all. Trying to find a local

attorney and none of them do the SSD thing. I'm beginning to think

that I should move back to San Diego. I would get better healthcare,

of course, I would be in more pain than here!

anything but good stuff about this office here. I can tell this now

because the man is dead. He had so many thing wrong with him there

was no way in the world he could ever get a job much less hold one .

But the SSD keep telling him he could do some jobs. He told him to

find him a job that he could do and he would sure take it. Of all

things they got him a job at a broom factory that just hired people

like him. On the third day he just fell out in the floor screaming as

loud as he could about

> one leg hurt so bad he wanted some one to cut it off and he

couldn't feel the other one. By the time the emts got him to the

little hospital  he got his feeling back in the one leg and now it

hurt as much as the other one. When they checked him over he had so

many bad places in his back and neck. and stints in his heart, and

pins in his leg. that they had no idea where the pain was coming

from. After a week they gave him a months supply of pain pills and

sent him home. One of the doctors wrote him a statement saying that

he would be on the high powered pain pills the rest of his life. The

SSD looked at the letter and told him there was no way he could ever

work and take those pills at the same time. He got full payment. I'm

not saying for any one to do that but where there is a will most of

the time there is a way.

I tried all those myself and couldnt get any help, I just keep aggravating them

myself and finally when it came time for me to see the judge, I wrote him a

letter asking him to please look at my overall situation, with the pain and

depression, and the surgery records, and then one day I got a letter back,

stating I would not have to see the judge, that my SSD was approved and would be

recieving payment in a month or two. I don't know what the determining factor,

but his letter said that with all my extenuating conditions that it was over

wellming evidence that  I need assistance. I have been recieving benifits ever

since

That's a GREAT IDEA, ! I think that I will try that this time,

if I'm sent before the judge again!
