Welcome to the PA list, but I am sorry you have PA!

I wrote that bit on the homepage about fatigue being

" normal. " I am not a doctor -- well, not a physician

-- and am not qualified to say what is or is not

normal for any physical condition. On the other hand

(OTOH) I have had been in communication with many PA

suffers through this list and on " chat " sessions at

About.com and Drkoop.com, and feel I am justified in

saying that the majority of PA patients (RA, too)

suffer both fatigue and some degree of " cognitive

fog. "

Do these conditions result from the disease or the

medication? I would say probably both, but I had the

fatigue for years prior to diagnosis (and treatment)

so I tend to think that the disease alone is capable

of inflicting a devastating fatigue. As my rheumy

puts it, the body expends a great deal of energy

fending off the disease, and the result is fatigue.

But I am on Methotrexate, Enbrel, Celebrex, Ultram,

Folica Acid (abets the MTX) and Prozac (yes, there is

the depression element) and I also have to think that

even a healthy person would be fatigued by putting all

that crap into the body week after week.

Good luck! Feel Better! Keep in touch!

Dr. Tasos,

Thank you for introducing yourself and offering your time, input and

expertise. I have a few questions I hope you do not mind answering. Really,

I have alot, but I'll try to be brief. Please allow me to pick your brain!

How long have you been treating cancer with alternative treatments? Do

you have a " protocol " or is every treatment individualized per patient? What

tests do you use or look for a particular patient before deciding on course

of action? Do you see any value using the darkfield microscope for looking

at the blood vs. traditional blood tests? What treatment have you used with

the greatest amount of success, and what is the success rate? Why does

cancer occur in your opinon? Do you routinely do parasitic and toxic purging

from the body in your practice and if not, why? Do you feel cancer is the

result of accumulated toxins from various sources that damage the organs over

time by decreasing their effectiveness, compounded with the problem of

parasites who thus thrive in this type environment, compounded with the

decreasing nutritional value of our food supply and poor dietary habits? Do

you use anytype of device that is set on the electrical frequency of various

pathogens, bacteria and viruses? Do you feel that naturally produced

interferon in the body by the use of flaxseed oil and a sulferated protein is

more effective in the body than the pharmaceuticaly produced

interferon-interluekin 2, possibly due to the fact that we are natural beings

and therefore respond better to natural treatments? Could you give us your

opinon on rates of success based on allopathic vs. alternative cures for

cancer?

I don't want to overwhelm you with questions and I appreciate your time

addressing these questions. I have more but these will be sufficient for

now. Others may ask questions I wanted to ask as well. Welcome to this

list, everyones input is

valuable..................................................................Beli

I hope you can help. I am trying to find out what the ratio of remission

from cancer is regarding different diets. For instance - macrobiotic, raw

food, juicing etc etc. My personal feeling is that they all have much to

offer but each on its own is not adequate. They all have the exclusion of

meat, dairy and eggs which is good. They all include large amounts of fresh

vegetables. I like the idea of vegetable juicing also. Any ideas? I just

watched a video by Dr Lorraine Day where she recommends 10glasses of water a

day + 13 glasses of fresh vegetable juice - where in the world would someone

find time for all this drinking, and what kind of a burden would this put on

the kidneys?! see so many differing " cures " and it is mind-boggling!

Leighann,
I am doing okay, all things

considered. The physical side effects are not as bad as they

were the first couple of months but the emotional ones

are terrible right now. Only physical ones I still

get are headaches, achiness, occasional nausea, hot

flashes, and cold spells, oh and lets not forget the

Fatigue from hell. Oh, and all my joints ache.

Emotionally I am having mood swings, insomnia, irratability,

depression.
I had a liver biopsy 3-31-00 and have early stage

Hi ,

I am not very active on this list, but wanted to say Welcome! I grew

up in Columbus, and I have lived in Licking County for almost 15

years.

I don't really have any suggestions for ER4YT, I have a hard time

sticking to it sometimes myself. The rest of my family isn't on it,

so it's difficult when we have food in the house that I shouldn't

eat.

If it's just you and your son, then that should help to just get rid

of all the avoids and then you won't be tempted...at home anyway.

What part of Columbus are you from? I grew up on the Far East side,

so if you went down the street one way you'd be in Whitehall and if

you went another way you'd be in Reynoldsburg. Up until 4 years ago,

I worked in Reynoldsburg at the State Fire Marshal's office. My

husband still works for the City of Columbus. My mom & dad still

live

in the same house where I grew up.

Good luck with the diet!!

HI ,

Welcome to THE list! There are quite a lot of well informed people on this

list, so if you are stuck with a problem, just ask. . . and someone will

answer you. As for having any suggestions about this diet to newbies, just

memorize your avoid lists, and stick to that. When you are preparing meals

for the first six months stay 70% highly beneficial and 30$ neutral foods

per meal, then switch to 80% HB and 20% N. Then after a year you can go

totally HB with an occasional neutral and you will get very healthy. I also

do the food combining with the foods on the ER4YT lists. Good Luck.

Welcome

A great way of life to follow.

Tip: you might develop some of the following symptoms - nausea ( ginger tea will

help - fresh ginger seeped in boiling water.

Back aches due to the parisites that reside in the liver and kidneys, depression

and various other discomforts

DO NOT GIVE UP this is proof that your body is adjusting to your new way of

eating and that you are ridding your body of toxins.

Good luck

Tracie, I live in Gahanna and I work on the outside edge of downtown

Columbus. I've lived somewhere on the far East side of Columbus for 20

years now, first in Bexley, then Reynoldsburg, and now Gahanna since 1985.

Are you in Pataskala? Are there many other people on this list from our

area?

Now for the technical part of my post...does anybody have suggestions on

what to feed a growing 9 year old boy? We're always on the run with his

sporting events, school, my school (I just started back to college after 20

years!) and it seems we're never home anymore. I want to make a grocery

list this week and meals that I can spend all day Sunday cooking so that we

can just reheat on the run. I'm making so many changes in his diet that he

can't keep up with me, and while he's okay (so far) with most of them, he's

not happy about the loss of his beloved Mc's!

Hi Cheryl, thanks for the welcome. I'll probably have tons of questions so

please bear with me!

I need (want?) to lose 50 lbs., and it seems nothing I do works. I've been

doing the Carbohydrate Addict's Diet for the past year, and I've gained 20

lbs! Of course I also quit smoking a year ago so I'm sure that has

something to do with the weight gain, but regardless, I certainly haven't

lost a pound.

In reading the ER4YT book I realized that the staples in my CAD diet are the

exact things I should be avoiding! (Which certainly could explain my

inability to lose weight.) My 9 year old is also about 15 lbs overweight

for his height and age, and I want to get us both healthy and more in the

weight range we should be.

I guess my question is this: is this way of eating helpful in weight loss

in addition to the health benefit? I am turning 40 in March (oy vey, that

hurts!) and I already know my family is throwing a huge party for me, and I

plan on making my entrance in a cute little black dress...so I need a diet

plan that is going to work!

,

I am a little further than Pataskala, north of Granville in the

country. If you've ever heard of Timbuk Tree Farm (cut your own

Christmas tree), we're really close to it. We have a little more

than

4 acres and we raise chickens and just got our first goats a couple

of

months ago.

The excitement around here the past two days has been all about the

hen that has been sitting on some eggs! They were due to hatch

yesterday. We had a total of 10 eggs under her, and 3 appeared to

have attempted to get out of the shell but died somewhere along the

line. Just 1 chick has hatched/survived and the remaining 6 eggs

appear to be duds. I know this is off topic, but I just had to share

this excitement!

About your 9 yr old son, I have a 9yr old daughter and I haven't

tried

to convert her to this diet. I can't imagine getting her to go along

with it. I also have a 6 yr old son who has expressed interest in

being on my diet with me. He's fine with it until I remind him that

it means no peanut butter or ketchup. My husband is anti-healthy

anything. He smokes, he eats potato chips and a coke daily with his

lunch. If I didn't buy these things, he would just buy them. So I

can't even get all the avoids out of my house.

One thing I have done that involved my 9 yr old was cutting out

dairy.

She wasn't happy about it, but I just quit buying it. We

homeschool,

so her only source of food is here at home. It helps to find

delicious alternatives. Both of my kids enjoy the Rice Dream ice

cream and they drink enriched rice milk. I have also ordered dairy

free chocolate chips and made spelt chocolate chip cookies (and my

husband even ate these!).

I belong to a food co-op and I'm able to order food once a month. I

order spelt flour and pasta, acceptable cereals and even spelt

pretzels. There's probably a co-op near you, you may be able to find

out if you call FORC at 614-861-2446 or toll free 888-936-9648.

Good Luck!

HI ,

You said: I guess my question is this: is this way of eating helpful in

weight loss in addition to the health benefit?

* * * * * * * I have lost 47 pounds to date and still going on the down

slide. It is GREAT for weight loss especially if you do the food combining

method along with this way of eating. I also cook on the weekends and do the

vacuum sealing for the freezer so that I won't get too hungry and cheat with

something fast and quick (like Mac's). . . Good Luck to you.

Tracie, I know exactly where you are! I'm familiar with the area. I do

have my son drinking Rice Dream now, he actually likes it! I'm slowly

making changes in our diet, however I'm not sure what his blood type is yet

so I'm more cutting back on sugar for him than actually putting him on

.

Do you have the recipe for spelt chocolate chip cookies? I know we'd love

that!

Also is there any type of archives here that I can read previous digests? I

noticed the current thread on candida yeast and am wondering about that....

Hi Ed , Teri here from Iowa, I also am a non-responder just started my Peg Monday and so far so good, I am amazed the first time around I was sick the whole time. My new Dr. told me I should have Hep A shot which I never had and I had Hep B but my body fought it off , also don't know if everyone knows we are considered high risk and should have the flu shot. I went yesterday and got both the flu and Hep A boy I was sick all night and day. Wish you well. Teri

Selina - I don't know where you are located, but I have a wonderful rheumy in

the Philadelphia area. I think the most important thing about PA is to find

one that you like. And don't let a GP treat it - PA is too specialized NOT

to have a rheumy. Keep trying to find a good one. If you don't like one

(and it sounds like you've had some bad experiences since some IDIOT doctor

told you you were too young for arthritis!!!), tell them that they stink and

move on to another! We all have to take charge of our health care management

and need physicians that understand us and that we can work with.

Good luck in finding one! Keep us posted, maybe there is someone in your

area who can recommend.

While I would tend to agree with 's recommendations overall

(especially the take charge part!), I don't have a rheumy and I'm being

treated very successfully by my knowledgeable and open-minded general

practitioner. I'm sure she is the exception rather than the rule from

what I hear, but it's best not to paint broad brush strokes...especially

seeing that not even rheumies understand what is happening within PA.

Deano - I would agree with that statement too. And I'm sure there are a few

primaries who are intelligent and caring enough to deal with PA. I just

think they are few and far between. But then again, a caring and intelligent

doctor just might be an oxymoron! (although I've been pretty lucky to find

mostly decent ones)
