I've never had a CT scan before. Before I was implanted, I had an MRI done.

Carol,

Of course the CI processors would block the picture they are trying to take.

Forgive me. I haven't been thinking very clearly all day.

, well, you will find the CT scan a lot easier to do. The reason

many surgeons like to get both CT and MRI done is because each provides data

in different ways. Mine likes to cover all bases, he hates surprises in the

operating room.

Do you think my CI surgeon is going to look at my pre-CI MRI and compare that to

my current CT scan?

I asked the technician whether I could wear the other implant and he said

not to. It will show up in the scan pictures. he also asked me whether I had

any other metal in my head....not sure if he was playing with me though! LOL

Don't wear them, but you can hold them if you want. The noise from the

machine is really annoying anyway...at least they used to be.

MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) works with magnets....so it can affect both the

external and INTERNAL portions of a coclear implant. CT Scanner does not have

a magnet so it won't wipe out your maps...... or hurt the implant itself.

CT scans are magnetic? If that were the case then wouldn't CT scans be

contraindicated for those with implants?

In any case, I left my processors on the table in the room and everything

was fine. So no problems holding them or having them in the room.

The internal array will show up on a CT scan. I have one here of me. In

case anyone wants to see what an implant looks like inside your head.

Dental fillings of metal or false teeth, braces, etc. anything else metal

will show up. The stapedectomy prosthesis also showed up on my CT scan,

although titanium. That is probably why the guy asked if you had

anything else metal in your head, .

CT scans don't use magnetics. That's why you can have them. And they

don't wipe out anything. Often they give you a dish to put your

earrings, glasses, processors and anything else they don't want pictures

of in while you have the CT scan done. But they all stay in the room

with you.

Won't the magnetics from the CT scan wipe out my maps if I hold my

processors in my hands?

If this is another ignorant question, forgive me. (I'm still under the influence

of cold meds. LOL!) Is one purpose of having a CT scan to look for implant

migration? I e-mailed my audi yesterday to ask why my CI surgeon requested the

CT scan, but have not heard back from her yet. Perhaps I'll hear from her on

Monday.

  • 3 weeks later...

Dear Worried Cristy,

March 6 is about 3 weeks away.

So not much time. May I suggest that you go to the Files section then

Folder #5 Tutorials and then in order of them open each one up and

study what ever is in each one. If you know it already then move on to

the rest.

If you are weak in math then study your heart out in math tutorials

first, instead of in the order listed.

Also the law and trade and generics.

ONLY you know what areas you are weak in.

If might help you to take some of the online quizzes and tests that I

have on this site as well as those on other sites that I have listed in

the files and links sections. Testing or quizzing now may help you to

zero in on the areas that you need most help in.

Ordering a book may take up half of the time you have left. You might

try teh library to see if they have anything to lend or and

Nobles has a few for sale.

Did you use any books to study the last two times? If so which books?

What did you like and dislike about them?

Are you currently working in a pharmacy? Did you go to a school or tech

program? OR are you studying from scratch on your own?

In my opinion, it takes a gook 3 to 6 months of dedicated study for the

AVERAGE person who is not working in a pharmacy to really understand

all that may be asked on the exam that does nto require experience

(soem questions do).

Wishing you all the best,

Keep me posted, if it happens again, well the site will be here for

your entire study time for another test. But then again the third time

is a charm! So you just may cinch it! Don't give up.

Just try to find your weak spots and work on them the most along with

math.

Respectfully,

Jeanetta Mastron CPhT BS

Cristy,

As Jeanetta has said, 3 weeks is very little time for you to prepare,

but if you would like, I am happy to offer you a free PTCB online

prep course from PharmacyTrainer.com to help you in your studies.

Since it is an online course, you can get your login information and

get started studying today. You will get our PTCB prep course, online

top 200 drug flash cards, and online practice problems (normally a

$79.95 value) by calling our office and speaking with Dottie. She

will set up your free account. Please call her at 863-453-0344.

As we have both said, 3 weeks is a very short time, so you must be

highly self-motivated and make a comittment to your studies for this

to work. Use BOTH Jeanetta's site and our materials, and I am sure

you will do fine, if you give it your maximum effort.

Best of luck to you,

Mark

Dear Mark,

Thank you for your kind offer to this particular member.  I am hopeful that the

use of both materials will benefit this member, and help to bring her closer to
