CBT is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. It is pretty much getting rid of the

distorted/negative/irrational thoughts and replacing them with positive and

rational ones. There are different exercises to kind of ‘re-train’ your mind

not to automatically go to the anxiety provoking thoughts which in turn

becomes actual physiological responses felt in your body. There is a great

book that helps with this called The Anxiety and Phobia Workbook.

It's quite likely that the VCO will give you more energy but I don't think it's

stimulating, like making you nervous. I too am prone to heartbeat

irregularities but NEVER have them while I'm taking VCO. But do at other times,

when I'm not. I think that's a great bonus not to have that anymore.

I also cannot take Decongestants for fear of a racing heart that keeps me awake.

As long as I watch my Carb intake, I can lose a pound a day without being hungry

and not exercising.

lovely suprise when i stepped on the scales this morning. I've lost

several pounds already and had 10lbs to lose that i haven't been

able to shift over the last couple of years even eating really

benefits you can get from this oil. I was dubious at first, is this

just another fad that will let me down in my search for more energy

to do the things i want to do? I think this is for real even though

part of me still can't believe it.

I like it much better using Coconut Milk and making it into a Smoothie.

1 cup Coconut Milk is equal to 2 tbsp. of the Oil according to Dr. Bruce.

When you guys mention coconut milk, are you usually referring to the canned

stuff in grocery stores? I agree that it makes a delicious smoothie, but

since it's pasteurized, the sugars in it are refined. And I guess I always

figured the oil content in it wasn't that significant, or wasn't good for

you once it was processed. Are you guys suggesting that I should start

using it for my smoothies again?! I LOVED it when I did! Where can I find

info on this?

Hi :

I didn't know the coconut milk (canned) was pasteurized, how naive of me.

Dr. Bruce has many recipes using the canned milk and I thought that meant it was

okay. I sure have a lot to learn.

His books say that 1 cup equals 2 tbsp. of the VCO and you can get your oil that

way as well.

I buy the Organic Coconut Milk, so there is no Sodium Bisulphite or Meta

Bisulphite in it. There is also the LITE Coconut Milk but it has much less of

the Oil and you wouldn't want that. I'm in Canada and I buy the Premium Organic

Coconut Oil.

Yea, it tastes a little like coconut, but a lot like wax too lol. I LOVE the

taste of coconut and it doesn’t taste like straight up coconut

unfortunately.

Was this the coconut-flavored VCO? I find it quite yummy and use it

like butter. Smashed potatoes get really creamy and have such a

nice flavor. anything hot, I put it in - try it in cocoa or hot

chocolate, whatever you want to call it. Yeah it floats on the top

a bit, but a quick stir, and it disappears.

Bonnie,

Thank you!! May I ask what type of heart irregularities you have? I was

disgnosed with SVT (superventricular tachy) but it may just be IST

(inappropriate sinus tachy). I also get PVCs (skipped beats) – but not so

much now that I am on medicine. Energy would be good. My meds keep me in a

pretty good slump most of the time. But I certainly do not need any

nervousness, jitteryness, anxiety, ya know??

I've never had symptoms when I've been at my doctor's office to actually have

him tell me what it's called. It's probably PVC's. A few months ago, I was

taking Baking Soda to try and help with this Acidosis and it caused my heart to

speed up to 160 bpm. Scarey.

Baking soda??? Weird!!! Did you ever find out why baking soda would do

that?? Yea, when I was diagnosed I was in the ER with a rate of 150-170 for

over hours sustained. I never EVER want to feel that again. My BP dropped to

50/30. Very scary. But they STILL tell me it isn’t life threatening. Sure

heck feels like it tho!!!

I am not sure who the original poster of this was since I have been gone for

the weekend and have quite a few messages to go thru! But...I did want to

mention that I just started on VCO after losing 35 lbs on a 1000 calories a

really been reading on eating whole foods and have changed over to making my

own bread and grounding my own flour even....so will just keep implementing

I had actually been off the 1000 calorie low fat diet for about 2 months

when I began adding in the vco. I had started losing my hair in handfuls and

decided that 1000 calories just was not enough to substain me! So I started

eating a pretty normal diet trying to eat healthy but not counting every

calorie....then I read on the vco...and thought that this would be a great

answer...and maybe it is....I have started baking bread and actually found this

helps with having more fiber...I do believe if I eat too much it could really

not be good....is popcorn considered a grain? In the book Eat Fat Lose

Fat...by Sally Fallon...they have a recipe in there for sesame oil, coconut oil,

I rarely eat rice never buckwheat. So could I still eat steel cut oats and

eliminate the flour too? I just do not know what to eat!! Would love an

outline of a daily food journal!

Hi Sally....yes I do agree with the info on the body going into the

starvation mode and then just gaining when adding extra calories...I just

responded

to Nina's email and mentioned that I had been off that a couple months before

adding the vco because I wanted my body to be able to maintain on a normal

amt of calories a day and I was trying to stop my hair from falling out. I

have used the 4 jars of vco over the last several weeks and some has been used

for baking so I have a the small container of the vco and taking out say a cup

for something I was baking uses a lot of it up quickly!

I have the Coconut Miracle book by Bruce Fife and find it interesting a lot

of his recipes use sugar...which I am trying to get off of....

I just ordered Cherie the juiceladys book on The coconut diet as well....I

have juiced in the past but do not think I could do her diet totally....I am

just looking for balance with no weight gain and some more loss!! But I don't

want my hair to fall out either! Beth

the weekend and have quite a few messages to go thru! But...I did want to

mention that I just started on VCO after losing 35 lbs on a 1000 calories a

own bread and grounding my own flour even....so will just keep implementing

That is great you have lost some weight on it! That is always encouraging to

hear!

Would you mind sharing your bread recipe? I was reading on soaking your

grains and since I do not have my own mill I am not sure how to do that or if I

even can. I have been going down to a supermarket that has a mill and doing it

that way. I just got back a bit ago from grinding some flour and have some

whole wheat bread in process as I type! I do try to stay away from store bought

bread and even our co-op uses canola oil in theirs so try to stay away from

that as well.

I hate to totally give up healthy carbs..I eat steel cut oats in the morning

with vco and flax seed and was adding a bit of walnuts....but wondering if I

should give up the walnuts....I do not drink milk very often at all...I do

buy organic for my daughter but now reading raw is better...so confusing!

Beth, eventually your 1000-calorie, low-fat diet will catch up with you,

because your body needs fat and energy. Perhaps you have gained weight

because your body is seizing upon the opportunity to catch up on something

that it has been missing. I'd like to recommend eliminating ground flour

products, even hand-ground, and observing the effects. The particles of the

grains should be large and whole, and then well-cooked. Do you eat brown

rice, buckwheat, barley and so forth? Eliminating flour products can go a

long way towards stabilizing your weight.

I used to be 50 pounds heavier than I am, so I feel your pain.

Hi Beth,

Yes, it's a difficult one isn't it, knowing how to approach losing

weight. Some go on the low carb with taking vco, personally I just

eat simply. Fruit, veggies, meat, fish, eggs, nuts and seeds,

cereals, grains. no milk,chesse or marg. I use oat milk, vco,

butter and olive oil and the coconut milk. I keep it simple. No

processed foods and have started to make my own bread because

supermarket bread has soya in and vegetable fats. I been taking the

vco for a couple of weeks and have gone down a few pounds. I'm

mainly taking it for thyroid problems and the jury's still out on

that one. I want to give it a fair trial so will continue, it

doesn't do any harm i'm sure and must be better than eating

margerine.

I don't know what to suggest really but so many people have lost

weight using it i would persevere and give it time to prove itself

one way or another. You could always adapt receipes, omitting the

sugar.

I just use strong wholemeal bread flour i buy from the supermarket.

There was a receipe on the packet and on the yeast packet. I've

just bought a bread making machine and am using receipe from the

book that came with it. I've had to adapt it because they use

sunflower oil and skimmed milk powder. You can you vco or butter

instead of the oil. It seems a bit unnecessary to grind your own

flour and seems a right hassle. Is there any particular reason that

you are doing it from scratch. Why do you have to soak the grains?

I'm not that bothered about avoiding carbs myself, just don't eat to

many, and everything in moderation. I just want to avoid the bad

oils and soya which is not good for your thyroid. If you make things

to difficult and complicated for yourself you will just stress

yourself out. Keep it simple, and be aware of portion size. Use

smaller dinner plate if that helps and eat slowly and be aware of

every mouthful. And chew every mouthful lots of times.(got that from

Mckenna's book.)

Steel cut oats are a fine start. It sounds like you are doing wonderfully

already. You are really on the road. I would check into brown rice (there

are many kinds of whole rice), buckwheat, and unrefined barley, quinoa,

amarinth - go gradually until you get a bit more familiar. If you are

eliminating flour, you will need to replace it with whole grains. I

recommend whole grains, beans of all kinds, brightly colored vegetables of

all colors, raw pickles (e.g., sauerkraut), sea vegetables, fermented soy

products from abroad (NOT American soy), nuts and seeds as much as you like.

Some people like to sprout their grains and beans, although I don't do that.

Fish is fine about once a week or so. Treat fruit as a luxury not a

staple - it is a simple sugar. And, of course, healthy fats and oils,

starting with VCO.

These are my opinions, of course others will disagree, which is fine - there

are many ways to skin a cat, and everybody needs to discover their own way

of eating. If you would like books or cookbooks to help with my

suggestions, start in the macrobiotic section of a bookstore, or get a book

on vegan cooking. Of course you don't need to be vegan yourself, I am just

I should have added - the Eskimos, Masai et al. used to be healthy. Today

they too eat Western junk and have lost their good health. It's happened to

just about every population in the world.

I want to share my personal experience, as it might help someone else out there.

IT IS BEST TO PROCEED SLOW WHILE TRYING A NEW DIET REGIME. We tend to try all

those things that are suppose to be healthy. There are certain group of people

who have problem eliminating estrogen very efficiently out of body. People who

took alpha blockers, anti-histamines, prilosac, flu medication etc in the past

suffer from this problem, it takes some time to recover from this problem. For

such people soy products are the worst food to be consumed, so and so the

fermented soy contains many folds of plant estrogen. In fighting the estrogenic

effect of the soy, our body overworks and makes certain hormones that causes

inflammation and weight gain, constant feeling of panic.

Coconut oil still goes well for such people. but one need to start right from

drinking purified water, containing no fluoride, then ovoiding soy products and

commercial bread. choosing buckwheat and millet at times instead of wheat. and

the list goes on. I always tried to introduce only one new food at a time and

tried for a week, doing so helps to point out any particular effect of the new

food.

IMO, dieting primarily for the sake of losing weight almost never results in

healthy choices. Just because you're thin doesn't mean you're healthy!

Choosing a truly healthy, largely raw-food diet and sticking to it without

depriving yourself of calories will eventually result in healthy weight

loss, and you'll feel so good! Remember how many years it took you to put

on the weight - it's not going to come off in a snap. As your body detoxes

and becomes more alkaline, the weight will come off, though (and with a good

exercise regimen, of course, especially light weight-bearing exercises). I

recommend the book, " Alkalize or Die " by Theodore A. Baroody. He asserts

that basically all health problems stem from the body's being too acidic,

and says that every extra pound we carry could be eliminated by a more

alkaline diet. I've talked to so many people who have cured tons of

ailments simply by become more alkaline.

Also, my #1 favorite book on healthy eating is Alissa Cohen's, " Living on

Live Food. " I'm gathering more info before I decide how much I agree with a

100% raw diet, but this book has some very motivating and helpful

information for anyone who wants to incorporate more raw food into their

diet.

If you want VCO to help you lose weight, I believe you really need to cut down

on the Carbs, less bread for instance. I don't know about popcorn. I find it

very easy to gain, even just having a Creamsicle which isn't very big so I just

stick to meat and vegetables, fish and salad but little fruit.
