Guest guest Posted December 23, 2004 Report Posted December 23, 2004 ..........that doctors are a total waste of energy, time, and mind. Argh....I know I've finally learned my lesson, once and for all to stay away from them. So, yesterday was 's Allergist appointment. What a waste of time. This doctor....young girl probably no older than 30....was condescending, and all she wanted to do was load him up on meds. I explained multiple times that he does not do well on medications, because they change his behavior, and that behavior is his worst nightmare with being autistic....not to mention our past nightmare experience with medications and my mind set against medicating. She proceeds to hand me three scrips for; Singular, Hydroxyzine and Zyrtec. I tried to tell her Zyrtec is worthless. He does well on Allegra, but not Zyrtec. If it ain't broke....don't fix it!! Singular?????????? He does not have asthma....not to mention that one of the side effects is aggressive behavior...yeah I need that! Hydroxyzine?????? WTF.....I don't want him drugged out on that stuff! She prescribed it for scratching in the night! He sleeps well at night. He scratches during the day. Like I'm going to drug him for scratching! She also wanted him to have skin tests.....get this....one needle at a time! Ha!!!!Ha!!!Ha....I said...good luck! He's autistic.....one pin prick and it is all over lady. You will unleash your worst nightmare in less than 30 seconds. It would almost be worth watching, just to see the look on her face when he goes from Dr. Jeckyl to Mr. Hyde. I asked her, " How many people you got to hold him down?....and, " I hope you wear padded gloves, because his bite will most likely break the skin of whoever is the unfortunate victim. " I told her I wanted blood tests only. She poohed me on that. They aren't accurate. I'm convinced his runny nose, and shiners are food related. She said highly unlikely. It is probably dust mites. This shiner thing just started three months ago. My house has had dust for years, but I'm also a very neat, tighty person. The house is cleaned weekly. She still doesn't want to test for foods, because at his age he's most likely outgrown food allergies. She then proceeds to tell me that I can give him dairy and wheat, because he's probably outgrown his allergy! I'm like, I don't think so! I told her he vomits when he eats dairy. She felt it was impossible that dairy would do that to him. Ok, so to make a long story short, she got the distinct impression I was not pleased. She ended our session by saying, " Well, if you decide you want testing, call our office back, but I get the impression this is not the avenue you wish to pursue. " So, here I am....back to the only place I ever get help....you guys and myself. I guess I have finally learned that the medical community will never understand, and us parents will only get help from a very select group of medical professionals, and have to rely on ourselves to help our children best. I have to figure out what food(s) is causing him problems. I'm not sure where to begin, because loves all foods. He's a hearty eater, and does not have a limited diet. He in general....loves to eat. Suggestions are welcome, and I'm glad to be back in the " real " world. God........to think I was 2-1/2 years into my schooling to become an RN when was diagnosed, and I quit to stay home with him. Thank god, I'm not one of those medical psycho's who do not get the big picture, and forget they are suppose to help people, not just collect money. a - Peoria IL ________________________________________________________________ Juno Gift Certificates Give the gift of Internet access this holiday season. http://www.juno.com/give Quote

She felt it was impossible that dairy would do that to him. My SIL was having major coughing spells, so violent they would make her throw up. I told her that when I had those spells, it was related to foods. She said her doctor told her it was an environmental allergy. None of the allergy medications they gave her were working. So she chose to have surgery to reduce inflammation in her throat area. The surgery caused her to lose most of her sense of taste, and she was still having coughing spells, altho they were somewhat less violent. But still she would throw up sometimes. Turns out, she ate a salad almost every day, and she discovered she was coughing because of the lettuce. So now she believes me that it is food related. My SIL is over 40 years old, and she NEVER had this problem until recently. The doctor STILL does not believe her. >>I have to figure out what food(s) is causing him problems. My son ate a LOT of food, and was not picky, and it turns out he did not tolerate any foods. Do you use enzymes? HNI enzymes were wonderful for my son. He still did not tolerate certain foods [rice, corn, lutein/carotene, artificials], but the enzymes addressed most of them. Then ALA chelation plus in my opinion the enzymes and B6, healed his gut and now he can eat anything he wants, even without enzymes. Dana Quote
Guest guest Posted December 23, 2004 Report Posted December 23, 2004 >>>>>>Turns out, she ate a salad almost every day, and she discovered she was coughing because of the lettuce. So now she believes me that it is food related.>>>>>>>> Oh don't I know. I had ate corn products for years. Somewhere around the age of 28 I began having horrible stomach pains and I would end up vomiting. I finally figured out it was after eating a corn product. I still can not eat anything that has a high amount of corn in it. Trace amounts don't bother me, but anything more does. My SIL is over 40 years old, and she NEVER had this problem until recently. However, B6 a few years ago made him hyper, but now he tolerates B6. I'll have to order the HNI and give it a shot. It probably is a good starting point. Thanks! a ________________________________________________________________ Juno Gift Certificates Give the gift of Internet access this holiday season. http://www.juno.com/give Quote
Guest guest Posted December 23, 2004 Report Posted December 23, 2004 a, My daughter is allergic to peanuts and legumes. We didn't figure that out until she was about 8 years old. The peanut and soya allergies were confirmed by blood tests. She has always had a chronic stuffy nose. Recently I started to wonder about foods again. We picked out the foods that were suspect and took samples to a naturopath/ homeopath. This guy is a wizard. I don't expect that they are all as good. He tested the foods on her with pulse testing (he feels her pulse and then feels if the pulse goes faster when the food is touched to her). He determined that she reacted to eggs, cheese. Since we took these out of her diet her stuffy nose has been so so much better. She doesn't get sick as often and the sicknesses don't go on and on and on like they used to. Skin prick tests are absolutely useless for food allergies. Another way to test is to avoid the food completely and absolutely, including trace amounts, for 4 days and then on the fifth day eat as much of the food as is possible and then note any changes in how the person feels. I actually used this method to test eggs on my daughter but I only did it once and didn't pick up on the difference. Now I know for sure that eggs make a huge difference for her. If you are already avoiding wheat and dairy there aren't too many things to test - eggs, corn, nuts, legumes, seafood, shellfish, can anyone think of other potent allergens?? Another clue, (from the retired allergist who helped me so much and whose opinions were very different from the other 15 that we saw.) Suspect the foods that the person hates and the ones that they love. My daughter hated peanuts and legumes, and turned out to be deathly allergic to them. She also loved eggs and cheese, and turned out to be sensitive to them. There are blood tests that you can pay for..... My son's stuffy noses are related to an allergy to rodents. Most old schools where we live have rodent infestations in the *fresh* air circulation system. Learned that from the exceptional allergist too. > > .........that doctors are a total waste of energy, time, and mind. Guest guest Posted December 23, 2004 Report Posted December 23, 2004 And, a When my daughter was about 8 years old she hit the roof when one allergist tested 65 things on her back (the retired allergist told me that the test was completely useless because he pricked too hard), and also when she had an immunization, and also when the blood was drawn for the allergy blood test. She isn't autistic. Trust your instincts. > > .........that doctors are a total waste of energy, time, and mind. Guest guest Posted December 23, 2004 Report Posted December 23, 2004 A couple of other things to check out. My husband is allergic to the mold that comes with processed tomato sauces and citrus juices. He can tolerate fresh tomatoes and citrus. He also seems to be allergic to bananas. He's ok if he avoids these things. Can't remember how long it took me to figure that out. I have to figure out what food(s) is causing him problems. Guest guest Posted December 23, 2004 Report Posted December 23, 2004 I'm just throwing this out there. There are some foods we eat regularly, since he is gfcf. He eats rice bread daily, and rice a few times per week. He also eats potatoes a few days per week. For morning breakfast he eats either rice waffles, peanut butter toast, jelly toast, or a handful of rice and/corn based cereals. Lunch is typical....he likes sandwiches; pepperoni, turkey or peanut butter. Dinner varies.....chicken, pork, beef, pizza, pasta. Sides are either green beans, carrots, corn, potato or rice. His main staples are definitely potato and rice, followed by corn based stuff. He does not consume soy products too much, but lately he has been interested in having cheese sandwiches for lunch. The cheese is soy based. It has not been daily though. He only drinks water and juice. I buy 100% berry based juice. It would be pretty easy to test him for foods, I think. All meats, corn, rice, potato, soy, berries, apples, beans, peanut, carrot, cucumber, tomato and green bean, should cover the list. I can't really think of anything else he consumes, other than garlic, onion and spices. As far as what he hates....nothing I can think of. He's the first to try anything. The only things he does not like are things with weird texture, gravy, oranges or anything sour. He hates gravy, but that is a sensory thing, more than anything. This is a kid who even tried tofu, simply out of curiosity. a -- " lindajaytee " <lindajaytee@...> wrote: A couple of other things to check out. Guest guest Posted December 23, 2004 Report Posted December 23, 2004 Sounds like potato, rice, corn and peanut are the first to test. I remember now that when I tested my daughter for cheese she felt so good on the four days off that she didn't want to eat any on the fifth day. And when I tested her for egg, before the cheese, she was probably still eating cheese so that's probably why I didn't pick up on the egg. What about egg? Does your son eat egg? Egg and soya are hidden in so many things. The tomato sauce comes with the pasta and pizza. There is something called birch tree pollen syndrome or something like that. People who are allergic to birch tree pollen are often allergic to apples and other foods. I can look it up if you want. Or search " Calgary Allergy " for a good food allergy site. > > I'm just throwing this out there. There are some foods we eat regularly, since he is gfcf. Guest guest Posted December 23, 2004 Report Posted December 23, 2004 a, How sad that you had that experience. When you stated that doctors are a total waste, did you mean mainstream doctors or all doctors? In defense of our DAN! dr, she has done wonders for our son. I don't think she operates like all of these other DAN! drs either. She has a fairly large practice and has been doing this for many years because her own child is autistic. She is very particular about which clients she takes on because the ones she does she gives VIP treatment to. She recently had a large right up published in Costco Magazine (October issue) and listed all supplements and treatments including dosage amounts. From that article she got many e-mails and phone calls and gave her advice to parents all over the country. She said that she understood she could not take them all on as clients, but she just wanted to get the word out there that there were other treatment options besides medications. In addition she helps families all over the country and the world. They are not ALL bad. I asked her, " How many people you got to hold him down?....and, " I hope you wear padded gloves, because his bite will most likely break the skin of whoever is the unfortunate victim. Guest guest Posted December 24, 2004 Report Posted December 24, 2004 > Well, we tried it a couple of years back and he became too hyper on the enzyme. However, B6 a few years ago made him hyper, but now he tolerates B6. I'll have to order the HNI and give it a shot. It probably is a good starting point. My son did get hyper with the enzymes, but I discovered they did not help him tolerate rice, corn, lutein/carotene [orange and green foods] and artificials. If you know that you have a corn issue, corn was one of my son's worst foods. Rice made him WILDLY hyper, almost as bad as artificials. Egg yolks, being orange, were also bad. Your son might not have the same issues as mine did, but my son lost ALL his foods issues at the end of ALA chelation, so you might consider that also. Dana Quote
Guest guest Posted December 24, 2004 Report Posted December 24, 2004 >>Lunch is typical....he likes sandwiches; pepperoni, turkey or peanut butter. If any of those lunch meats contain nitrates, you might consider dropping them, or keep a journal and see if his behaviors are correlated with eating them. >>Dinner varies.....chicken, pork, beef, pizza, pasta. Sides are either green beans, carrots, corn, potato or rice. My son tolerated none of those sides, even with enzymes, except potatoes. > He only drinks water and juice. I buy 100% berry based juice. Most berries were bad for my son. With No-Fenol, he could have apple juice, pear juice, and white grape juice. Nothing red. > It would be pretty easy to test him for foods, I think. All meats, corn, rice, potato, soy, berries, apples, beans, peanut, carrot, cucumber, tomato and green bean, should cover the list. I can't really think of anything else he consumes, other than garlic, onion and spices. Most spices were NASTY for my son. Anyway, my point is not that your son might be the same, just that you might not notice any difference by removing just ONE food. It can be very frustrating if it is multiple foods, but hopefully your son might have issues with only one or two foods. Enzymes can definitely help tho. Good luck. Dana Quote
Guest guest Posted December 24, 2004 Report Posted December 24, 2004 > > I'm just throwing this out there. May I suggest you do a simple Mannitol/Lactulose test to see if the kid has increased permeability in his gut. Ex: http://www.alternative-doctor.com/allergydotcom/leakygut.htm http://www.liverdoctor.com/Section2/11_leakygut.asp If that is so and if you heal the intestines the allergy might go away. There are protocols for healing the gut. If the allergy doesnt go away though the intestines are healed, the kid is 'non-toxic' and stays away from refined sugar and the standard american diet, there is no reason for the immunesystem to react the way it does, so take him to a GOOD & EXPERIENCED homeopath and treat the allergy. This is the plan for myself at least, after I got all the mercury 'silverfillings' replaced. Here's a recipe, servings for two: 1 cup Green beans (We call them mung beans?) 2 Tomatoes 1 Avocado 1 small Red onion 2-3 tablespoons olive oil. LOTS of fresh green salad. This is the MAIN thing so use a lot. Salad is nutrient dense, EASY to digest and does lots of good passing the digestive system. Lemon juice is to be avoided in the salad and all raw vegetables because of risk for ulcer. (The key to health, Are Waerland) I got a really bad ulcer after two months of raw food with lemon juice. :-P Took over 6 months to heal. So let the green beans soak over night in two cups of water. Throw away the soaking water, rinse and boil i 1.5 cup of water for 15 minutes. Cut the sallad leaves and put in a large bowl. Cut the tomatoes and put in bowl. Spoon pieces of avocado put in bowl. Slice red onion stripes -> bowl. Pour olive oil all over. Pour the green beans in the sallad and serve up. Remember to chew every small piece of salad thoroughly for digestive health. :-) A few hours after this meal, follow up and eat your fill of watermelon or other juicy fruit. An hour after that eat another ordinary meal, but first evaluate how you felt on 80% raw food. This is a cleansing diet. If you keep going with this type of meals you may feel weak when the body cleanses itself. This will pass, faster the less toxic you are. All is free to comment. Best regards, Quote
Guest guest Posted December 24, 2004 Report Posted December 24, 2004 Let's see, 7cm tumor in voice box undiagnosed by Kaiser (HMO) and with chiro xrays in hand told must be food lodged in trachea? Or 99% blocked coronary artery " diagnosed " at arthritis of neck? Or the nurse who said that the head to foot ulcers and 102 degree fever were caused - not by the third incorrect antibiotic - but from wearing a coat in summer! [That infection lead to enough damage to cause a trip to the ER and a heart murmur.] Or what about a quick $650. 00 intial visit w/ DAN! doc in Pleasanton, CA who spent 45 minutes with my extraordinarily verbal 6th grader (Asperger's) - her diagnosis? " Oh, I don't see anything wrong at all except she's very upset at you for ruining her social life. " Or the Kaiser dev.pedi who spent another 45 min intake with the same kid in the same week and called her " obese " to her face, and predicted her serious autistic symptoms will only get worse with age. Nice. [The research posts about thyroid and other metabolism problems, mitochondria, and so forth, apparently don't interest that doc. Oh, one of her collegues quotes her saying that she's " burned-out and fed-up with autism and autistic kids " - now that her own HFA child is 19.] Of course, both docs were very diligent in questioning me clearly three different times (is there a Med School Seminar or Insurance Seminar that teaches them to ask 3x ???) about medications for DD's behavior just to make certain I wasn't passing up the " medically correct " help. Yeah, I'd say we're sittin' in the same pew you're sittin' in, a! ....C Oh, yeah, Merry Christmas! to those who are trying to juggle and celebrate as we are... [ ] Re: When will I learn.......... Guest guest Posted December 25, 2004 Report Posted December 25, 2004 , Did you test and find out that you have a leaky gut? Did you heal it? What was on your list of foods to avoid? Guest guest Posted December 25, 2004 Report Posted December 25, 2004 > , > Did you test and find out that you have a leaky gut? No I haven't. I will when I find somewhere to do it here in Sweden. The following are my thoughts, but I can't guarantee everything is correct. If I fast for a day my allergy against mold disappears. Until I eat again. So thats one clue. Another is that if I take for example chestnut drops, or colostrum which is another powerful healer plugging the leaks, the mold sensitivity also disappears. Chestnut drops contain allantoin which heals wounds like crazy. But I dont recommend you use it because the problem will only reappear as long as the underlying problem is there. It seems that to CURE it for good you have to follow a protocol that adresses several things at simultaneously and keep at it for several months. > Did you heal it? No again. First I adjusted my diet to vegetarian and thought that would do it, but it didnt. I feel MUCH better on vego diet and raw foods so I won't switch back though. Been at it 1.5 years. The thing seems to be, as long as you have many amalgam fillings, leaky gut probably cannot be healed. This is because the intestines produce lots of mucosa to protect itself from the mercury that is trickling through the intestines daily. And this mucosa, I am told, creates an anaerobic situation with too little oxygen in the small intestines which bad microbes like. This hurts the small intestine. But many things can create leaky gut. A few times I have had much pain in the guts and then I have taken some ColoZone. It cleanses the colon, oxygenates the intestines and thereby corrects microbial dysbios. In 1-3 days mortal pain have been totally gone. I dont know what I would have done without it. Maybe someone else has the same problem and can use it. Now, It is my understanding that inside the small intestines there should be a layer of IG-G antibodies that disables the random " bad stuff " that accidentally passes the healthy layer of mucosa. If the IG-G layer is damaged the " bad stuff " will get into the blood stream. There it will upset the immunesystem. Maybe you will be " allergic " . If this is correct, the problem is not really with the food but with the body that lets bad stuff in. Everything that irritates or creates inflammation in the digestive tract will keep the IG-G layer from being repaired. This is the information I have gathered so far, I hope its correct because it explains a lot about allergies and mental problems too. Toxins in the bloodstream can make anyone a little mad. And I hope this explains my rationale for suggesting the leaky gut test. In the reviews of the book " Breaking the Vicious Cycle " by Elaine Gottschall (www.amazon.com) there is lots of talk of autistic and other children getting well by Elaine's methods. Not many books on amazon have 130 rave reviews. The diet doesnt seem too easy to follow though, but you could do a 1 month experiment. Also, in the book " Be your own doctor " , the author explains she helped heal lots of people with other severe mental problems by fasting them to let healing occur and then avoid food they didnt tolerate. From the books about health that I've read I remember many of them speak of mental problems disappearing when problems in the gut is remedied. > (I notice that you mention to avoid the standard > american diet, just wondering about the details) > > > > > > > > > I'm just throwing this out there. > > > > May I suggest you do a simple Mannitol/Lactulose test to see if the > > kid has increased permeability in his gut. > > > > Ex: > > http://www.alternative-doctor.com/allergydotcom/leakygut.htm > > http://www.liverdoctor.com/Section2/11_leakygut.asp > > > > If that is so and if you heal the intestines the allergy might go > > away. Guest guest Posted December 25, 2004 Report Posted December 25, 2004 I had the same thing happen with a dust mite sensitivity. It also disappeared with the Hay diet (eating proteins and carbohydrates at least 4 hours appart and eating lots of fruit and veg). I was fianally able to get of antihistamines. Dagmar. If I fast for a day my allergy against mold disappears. Until I eat again. So thats one clue. ---------- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Anti-Virus.
