I spoke to a woman a couple of weeks ago who got pregnant two months after

having the surgery ( I'm sure Dr. R wasn't too happy) she is now seven months

pregnant , had her surgery 11/99, and has lost 105 lbs. & has had absolutely NO

complications!

Hi Amy,

I believe several people have had healthy babies after having the MGB. Dr. R

talked about this in the first clinic I was at, and he pointed out that the big

risk is a risk of birth defects due to not taking your vitamins consistently.

Folic acid in particular is very important for preventing certain terrible

defects. A pregnancy after the MGB should be planned for and you should be

very careful to take your vitamins consistently even long before the pregnancy

occurs. Talk to Dr. R about this when you see him. He can tell you all the

things to be careful of, and he can also tell you about the studies that have

been done that have shown that people can have very healthy pregnancies after

the MGB. Some of those are on the web site. Try doing a search on there for

" pregnancy. "

Don't be too worried about the pain involved with the MGB. It is not fun, but

for me it was certainly much less than with my other surgeries (a c-section and

a breast reduction), and much, much less than the pain of childbirth :) (at

least unmedicated childbirth). You do get an IV, and they had problems getting

mine in, but they do numb you first. The numbing shot only hurts a little

bit. I think I am a wimp about pain, and I have almost a phobia about it, too,

because through some very rough life experiences, I have suffered a lot of

physical pain. And it has only been a little over a week since I had the MGB,

so the memory is pretty fresh in my mind, and still I can say that I wouldn't

hesitate to have it again. So don't be too worried.

Good luck to you!

Sara

Hello,

This is what an email from Dr.R said about the deposit amount.....

> How much of a cash deposit are you thinking to need?

I am thinking around $3,000.00>

I hope this helps.

saying (#2) that the cost of printing the manuals and sending them out is

over $2500.00 per month. He goes on to list #3, and on #4 it states that a

cash deposit will be required in September, however there is no $ amount, I

believe that alot of us that are asking this question are inquiring as to

the dollar amount of the cash deposit.

I dont mean to sound ungrateful, I am filled with gratitude, and then some,

for Dr. Rutledge and his staff, but for me, $2500.00 does not just seem

like

alot...it IS alot and is impossible for me to come up with. It took me 3

months and robbing to pay to save up $1000.00 to cover the

expense of the trip to NC. For me personally, this would make my surgery

something I could not do, my approval is only good for another 2 months.

Please let me know if i'm reading this wrong.

Sincerely,

In regards to this new deposit requirement... I can understand all of

the concern. That is a large amount of money to pay for some people...

myself included. I know my insurance will usually try and work with the

Dr and or hospital and make arangements to pre pay to take advantage of

the cash discount that is available. I dont know if that would be an

available avenue for anyones insurance or not, but if it is, maybe it

would be one way to maybe waive the down payment. Just a thought in

hopes that it may help someone.....

Welcome aboard!

Please see my website at http://www.fourlane.com/mgb

It has pictures of almost *everything* to do with the MGB except the

surgery itself and some info, too.

Hey, thats great!!! I didn't realize that there was more than one doing it. I

would still want Dr. R to do mine, but maybe it will help take some of the

load off him if other Dr.'s are learning his technique!!!

Dr. R invented the MGB, and now there are two other doctors performing it as

well. One is not far from him in NC, and the other is in the North West (I

think!). It's not a big deal at all to travel for the surgery. I came from

Northern VA, and it was well worth the trip!!!

Best of luck to you on your journey,

Amy.

Hi Amy:

Been watching your story. You go, girl! It's such a help to all of us lay

people out there.

If you could review your notes and find the name of the PNW surgeon who is

doing MGB, I'd appreciate it. I still think RR is the best choice beause of

his high 'numbers' but it would be nice to speak to patients of other

surgeons to see if their experience is similar to the ones we are now

sharing.

I'll be glad to share what info I get with all....

Warm regards,

Judith in Seattle

This is so ironic. I also have a 15 year old son and he is always asking me

to go to Carowinds. I too have promised him next year hopefully we will go.

I have not been back to anything similar since that happened. Maybe we can

keep in touch and go together. May God bless you is my prayer.

Sharon,

My prayers are with you. I have to watch my two grandsons tomorrow for 4

hours. And I'm wondering how I'm going to make it. And you have 13 1/2

hours. I'll be thinking of you.

Ann

(unknown)

Please pray for strength for me tomorrow. It will be

my first 13 1/2 hour day with both the kiddos.

Hurting today, and my eyes are trying to flare, but I

am trying to force them not to. Take care, and I'll

be back on line on Wednesday. (I might be able to

sneak in about 15 minutes in the morning.)

Love, Sharon

I'm praying you made it just fine. Wish I could have been there to help you play with the little ones. I can't wait to have a grandchild one day.

When they rest, you rest, hope your day will be great!
