At 02:560 -0400 8/22/01, Marty Kanter sat down at the keyboad and wrote:

>I go back thousands of years to the era of

>GIRDLES having to hold my stockings up!

I remember my first garterbelt at the age of 13; it felt so weird to

have those things pressed into the backs of my thighs when I sat down

in church! I was in the 7th grade when my mother bought me a pair of

panty hose, and I thought I'd never get them on right. The

relationship between me and ph has gone downhill since then...

I personally don't care for stockings but when they are necessary,

thigh-highs (which right now resemble tall knee highs on me) or knee

highs are the extent to which I am willing to torture myself.

Try Lane for nylons...they're pretty good and stretchy. They don't

last long, though.

Lane (and oh how I look forward to being a former customer is

owned by Brylane, Inc.

Brylane is one of the largest US catalog retailers selling apparel to

people who need a plus. The company sells plus-size women's clothes

through its Lane , London, and Roaman's catalogs and

men's apparel under the KingSize name. Brylane also sells women's

apparel through the Lerner, Real Comfort and Chadwick's of Boston

catalogs, and it has a catalog of home items, Brylane Home. Brylane

markets some catalogs under an agreement with Sears. It focuses on

clothing with limited fashion risk and broad selections of sizes,

styles, and colors. France's Pinault-Printemps-Redoute (PPR) bought

Brylane in 1998. PPR has collaborated with Brylane to offer a US

version of its top French catalog, La Redoute.

's Secret is owned by Intimate Brands.

As a leading retailer of women's intimate apparel and personal care

products, Intimate Brands should feel quite uplifted. The company has

nearly 2,400 stores under the names 's Secret (lingerie,

cosmetics, and fragrances) and Bath & Body Works (personal care

products). 's Secret also sells apparel online and mails out

more than 365 million copies a year of its famous namesake catalog,

which serves as a socially acceptable " girlie mag. " In addition,

Intimate Brands sells candles through White Barn Candle Co. stores and

is testing 's Secret beauty stores (many within 's

Secret stores). CEO Wexner owns 18% of retailer The Limited,

which in turn owns 84% of Intimate Brands.

That, and they think that all fat people are 5'8 " or taller!! Most

of their skirts and dresses are floor-length on me!

I am 5'8 " and taller, and they are all floor length on me. They also

assume that every fat person is long waisted, so the crotch hangs

down to my knees. I end up wearing petites pants. The crotch hits

where it should (if I pull the waistband over my boobs!) and all the

legs are cropped!

What I hate is that they use size 4 models. You know that they've had

to drastically pin and tuck the material to get it to fit them

properly. You have to really, really know how something would look on

you. Then there's the problem with sleeves either way too long or way

too short. Sometimes I wonder why they want really short sleeves for

people who usually have very big upper arms. Either they are too

tight or you bulge out all around them.

I think that's why I like the Junonia catalog -- the models look overweight,

but healthy. Beats buying fat clothing out of a catalog filled with women

I'll never look like.
