Tabitha,

I know there are others who have faced this problem with the insurance

companies and fought to have the shoes paid for -- often it is a

matter of how the orthotics company is billing for the shoes. I am

sure someone will jump in here with some help in this regard.

I mainly wanted to address your question about Karter not walking --

he is 13 months so that is really OK. Lots of babies don't walk

(clubfooted or not) until 15, or even 18 months. I don't think most

pediatricians start worrying unless they are not walking after 18 months.

Hope this helps,

Thank you for the response. I know you are not to compair children, but my

daughter who is 5 walked at 10 months. Everything seems different this time

around. Karter will stand, but we are very worried because he has one foot that

has always seemed worse that the other. When he tries to walk he does not place

right foot down all the way. When we asked the Doc. he said that it is still

flexable and to continue with the shoes night and nap time. We are considering

getting a second opinion, but of course we have to have a reffural before we

can see another Doctor.

Thanks for your help,

Hey Tabitha! Can't help with the shoe issues, but my daughter Ava

was born 8/4/2004 and she's not quite walking yet either. She

stands, and will walk holding hands, but is a big CHICKEN!! It's

absolutely normal for children not to be walking yet--CF or not!

Tabitha,

If you have concerns don't wait to get that second opinion. If he is

not putting weight on that foot I would definitely do it. Who is

Karter's doctor? You are lucky to live in Iowa, the home Dr. Ponseti

himself, are you very far from Iowa City? Your pediatrician should be

able to give you a referral to whoever you want to see. Also, you can

send photos of Karter's feet to Dr. Ponseti and he can give you an

opinion that way if you just want to ease your worries. His email

address is ignacio-ponseti@... that's ignacio-ponseti @ uiowa .

edu (without the spaces). I believe he suggests weight bearing

photos, back views and side (I'm sure someone else will speak up with

their expertise on this).

Hope this helps,

Thanks for the email address will definately seen Dr. Pontesi pictures. Karter

recieved shots on Friday and our family Doc. said she has no problem with

writing a refural. So that is good news. I would love to go to Iowa City.

Right now his ortho is in Davenport Iowa which is 40 min. away and for us to go

to Iowa City would be about 1 hour and 15 min. so it is very possible for us to

go there if we can get in. Wait to see if he responds to the pictures. Thanks

for all your advice. I don't want to be just parinoid mother.

Thanks for helping ease my mind. I guess I should not push the walking issue.

When he is ready I'm sure he will go faster than me. Is Ava your first child?

Was interested in how many poeple have more than one child born with cf. Our

daughter is 5 and did not have cf. Tell Ava Happy belated b-day. Let us know

when she does decide she can walk alone.

Thanks

Tabitha,

That is wonderful. I do hope Dr. Ponseti tells you that Karter's feet

are just fine, but if he says " come see me " it is great that you would

be so close. There are many many parents who travel across the

country, or even the world to see him so you are lucky you are within

a reasonable driving distance. Please keep us posted and let us know

what he says.

Thanks,

Hi welcome to the group. I'm pretty new too but I know that

so many of my questions have been answered here. My surgery date is

only 26 days asway (not that I am counting every minute) and I know I

can count on this group when I get to the other side with even moe

questions. Hang in there, we can all do it together.

You don't have to register for support group. You are welcome to attend any, any where you like. You can attend different places to get information from more than one group if you like. It's all up to you. Take care. Donnawiljadamsprice wrote: Hi everybody,I'm considering the surgery in the not too distant future.
