Guest guest
Angel- Call your primary care doc and tell them you cannot get an OB for another month and ask for a prescription of prenatals and take them in ADDITION to the ones you already take and also go to the frug store and get yourself 800 mcg of folic acid and take those, that is what I am on and what most of these ladies on the group are on. Also, you can still work out at the gym just do not overdo it, they say that as long as your body is used to the excersice program that is is okay. Good Luck and Congrats again. My boobs barely hurt but i too had to kjeep feeling cause I wanted them to hurt to reasure me too. you for sure are not alone kris, unfortunately there really is not much that can be done except wait or try tog et in to a different doctor sooner. Guest guest
I'm taking 400mg Folic Acid sublingully with my b-12, and then a pill for another 400mg. That should be good, right? Kris
Guest guest
Kris, Try to stay calm!!! The one thing that you should keep in mind is that no matter how much you stress out about it the outcome will probably be the same. I know what I am talking about I have a 12 year old and have had two miscarriages trying to have another baby. I am three years post op and my last miscarriage was nine months ago. But I am happy to say that I am now 22 weeks pregnant!!!!! With my last two, I never made it past 9.5 weeks. I had my ultrasound about two weeks ago and my little girl is healthy and right on track where she should be. Just try to stay calm and make sure your doc runs all the blood work and that you take your b-12 and extra folic acid along with prenatal vitamins and anything else recommended. Good luck and take care! Tonia
Guest guest
Tori, I was told that you had to have stopped growing before you could have this surgery. At 14 youhave already stopped growing? (unknown) I had this procedure and I am 14. We started discussing it and the orthodontist said depending on which path we decided to take, he would either take me out of braces b/c I had been in them for a year and a half already. For me, not to be braggy but a lot of ppl said I was already really pretty and they didn't know why i needed it until I showed them my bite. My smile had always been off and kinda strange when i took a look at it, but it didn't hurt me and if I didn't have the surgery then I could get my braces off. I chose to have the surgery and now my bite is awesome, my smile will be so much better and my face is not going to change much at all. For a while i questioned why I did my surgery and I was so upset. Now, I am pretty happy and am 2 weeks post op as of today! It's more of a personal decision and I am glad that I chose to do it *tori*
Guest guest
My problem was that my upper jaw had stopped growing. My surgeon was completely confident in my surgery and it took only 1 hr and 15 mins. Doing great so far, started eating mashed potatoes etc on the third day. No elastics at all after 24 hrs, just a splint. He doubts ANY problems in the future:) tori > Tori, > > I was told that you had to have stopped growing before you could have > this surgery. Guest guest
Conny, Not getting adequate nutrition will also do harm to the teeth and gums. Did the dad think about that too when he took the bottle away? Regards, (Still kicking in Texas but not finding much free time.) (unknown) Hi, and everyone, I had this disagreement with everyone in 's life about keeping on the bottle. I felt that it was vital to keep him on the bottle because it was the only guarenteed calories we could get into him every day. I won the fight until just before he was two, when his dad just took the bottle away one day from both and his one year old sister. As I feared, did begin to look skinnier, in spite of the fact that many days he seems to eat a fair amount. What I am doing now is putting toddler formula into whole milk for his sippy cup, just as I did for his bottle. This has the same calories as pediasure (30 cals per ounce) without all of the sugar and slow emptying issues of Pediasure. Then after dinner, but before bed, since he is not permitted to have anything but water after bedtime, because Dad is worried about his teeth, I give him a sippy cup full of a high-cal yogurt drink. I have found two of these. Dannon has one and there is an organic brand, too. The Dannon has 270 calories in 8 ounces. The organic brand has 240. Either is certainly a calorie shot right before bedtime. I think he is looking a bit better although we still don't need an x-ray to count his ribs. If I had my vote, I would still have him on the bottle and worry about the teeth later. Not getting adequate nutrition will harm way more than a person's teeth. I am not a doctor and so you must consult your doctor, but these things have helped us. Conny, 's great-aunt
Guest guest
! Glad to see you are still around. Unfortunately, Dad did not think about that because Dad is not very bright, thinks he knows everything when, in fact, he knows nothing. He drives me crazy. Guest guest
Did u have your surgery in Sept 03? I had mine Oct 21, 2003 I am currently 17.5 weeks. I got pregnant only 3 months and 3 weeks out of surgery. My surgeon also advised me to wait at least a year too. It wasn't planned. I'm still loosing weight and feel great. My ob is experienced w/ WLS patients she assures me everything is going be okay. Eat healthy and take your vitamins. Cody (unknown) Hey Everyone, I am new here and am full of questions. My doctor suggested that I not get pregnant till 12-16 months out and I was on the pill and I go in thinking I had a Bladder infection and came out having a baby. Although I am really excited for this much wanted miracle I am scared. Has anyone been pregnant shortly after your surgery and what did the doctors recommend. Help! Advice Needed! Guest guest
Hi, Robyn, and welcome to the group! This site has been wonderful throughout my surgery for support and guidance. I had the same procedure as you are going to have. I also had an assymetrical lower jaw, so it had to be moved over and back. My surgery was on the 5th of May. I am still somewhat swollen and numb. I can feel everything, but it still has a funny numbness to it- like a pins and needles feeling and a tight feeling. This is mostly on my chin, lips, and nose. Some people are not numb at all, though I think this is rare. Some people also have some residual numbness that lasts weeks, months, or years. My surgeon had jaw surgery and can still feel some slight numbness in his chin. He said that it doesn't bother him at all and that he only really feels it when he is shaving. Get plenty of rest and try to keep your fluids up. Are you going to be wired or banded? I wasn't either, just sort of left dangling! lol, but I am glad. I would have done it if I had to be wired, but I wouldn't have like it! Good luck, and let us know how you are doing. ~Cathy (unknown) Hey everyone, finally coming about and realizing that the surgery is actually about to take place tomorrow, I decided to check around on the internet to see what I can find out about this surgery that my doc has neglected to tell me about. Being lucky, I stumbled across this group I read through a number of the posts and found out quite a great deal about what I'm about to undertake, however one question still irks me, " Approximately how long will I remain numb for? " My upper jaw is being moved down and forward while my lower jaw is being moved backward. If anyone has had this procedure before, I'd really appreciate your input as to how long I should expect to have a numbness in my face for. As I probably wont be too enthusiastic about writing back by the time I read this, thanks in advance -Robin
Guest guest
Decision making process is always hard since braces and jaw operation is optional--it depends on how much perfect you want your look is and how much risk from the surgery you can stand. Just like any surgery, jaw surgery has some risks. I am also in this decision making process, and even though the surgeon said that my jaw line look quite okay and it wil not have much improvment from this, I am still not done making decision. So if you think you are satisfied with you looks, being happy, has self-confidence, and are free from any concern about your looks, you don't not need this. There are two tyeps of people who decide to do this, I guess, fisrt is the one who is really need for the functional use, and second is the one who want to improve their appreance and their functional, while it has a chance to improve. I guess the most important thing is that we need to find the surgeon and the ortho that we are trust in them. Good luck smilewithgranny smilewithgranny@...> wrote: hi everyone im 19 and from ireland. i have a prominant lower jaw therefore i can have surgery to correct it. at times it doesnt bother me and other times it does. i love my teeth as they are nice and straight therefore i dont want braces but ive been told they are a necessity. i think also the fact of having to wear them for two years before the op. also scares me. i am also afraid that i may end up looking awful as i dont look that bad at the moment if i do say so myself : ) overall im not sure whether or not to go through with the whole thing. i have an appointment to get my wisdom teeth out on the 28th june so i need to make my mind up soon... has anyone any advise... thank you!!!! Guest guest
so sorry to hear about Zach. Max had pneumonia 3 times this year and I think I know where you are at. Are you seeing a pulmonologist now with him? Max uses an nihaler twice a day and also The Vest, an airway clearance system to help clear all the gunk of her lungs. Have you been able to monitor his saturation levels? Max drops her sats because of congestion and we give her a little 02. Info on The Vest you can find at www.thevest.com. Also, Max takes a little of an antibiotics every day. At the slightest sign of any kind of infection the antibiotics are increased. Every pneumonia she has gotten has taken longer to recover from. Our kids are not strong to begin with. If you have not seen a pulmonologist as of yet, please think about doing it. Is there a children's hospital close by to you? It may be hard just prior to the long weekend coming up. However, if you have a children's hospital close by, they will have a pulmo on call and the ER may be the best place to take Zach. Let us know how you guys are going best regards rosy, mom to max,
Guest guest
Robyn Reading your post makes my heart ache for what you and your family are going through. Dealing with the unknown factors is one of the most difficult aspects of fighting this disease, and we all struggle with it daily. I know that doesn't give you much comfort, but please know that we can all relate to your pain on some level. I don't think it's ever easy to " prepare " for the death of someone you love with all your heart. Maybe something helpful for your younger son would be to make a book about life in your family as it is right now. Take pictures, draw stories, and write down how this is affecting your life. I don't mean that in every picture people need to be smiling. This is not a time that brings smiles to your face. I'm just saying that by recording events that are going on, talking about what Peyton is going through and writing it down can be a very healing thing. My dad died several years ago, when my kids were 3 and 6. They were too young to really grasp everything that was going on at that time, but i still took pictures and really journaled about how difficult and painful it was, but how much Grandpa loved them. Now, four years later, it has become an important part of our family history, to read the " Grandpa Book " . It still makes me cry, but that is okay. It's something else i've learned in dealing with mito, a divorce, and the loss of my dad: it's OKAY for our kids to know that we are sad. It's okay to tell your son that your heart hurts because his brother is very sick and he isn't getting better. I used to make the mistake of trying to put a happy face on everytime my son was around. At that time, he was symptom free and i wondered how in the world i would explain something as complicated as his sister " might " die from this weird debilitating horrible disease. Then i finally figured it out: he knew i wasn't happy, and by trying to pretend that i was, i was sending the message that we should hide our true feelings. So, now, even when my heart feels like it will break into a billion tiny pieces from watching the struggles they go through, i tell them the truth: yes, i am sad or mad or scared. and i ask them for a hug, and tell them that we are a team and will get through it all together. I hope this helps at least a little bit.
