Lyn...you're doing alright..keep worrying but just not too much that it

interferes with your life.

My mother tells me that when I was about a week or so old a tornado

ripped thru Akron and took out a half a block of houses just one street

over fom us and she never knew a tornado had hit. We get tornados but

not real big ones , however some parts of Ohio have had whole towns

wiped out. (Xenia, Ohio for one)

Last year a tornado jit in the north west part of the state and wiped

out a movie theater but just before it hit the manager had moved

everyone (mostly kids) to a connected building which was deemedsafer.

The kids were untouched but the theater where they had been minutes

before had totally disappeared

....not twenty feet away. Tornadoes are awesome in their power and so

unpredictable. I'm glad you were safe.

Jerry or anyone else who might know the answer,

Am I dreaming or did I read somewhere that if you are on Propranolol you should not eat Grapefruit??? I drink Fresca all the time and being diabetic my choices are limited, and the pharmacist just told me it didn't matter. I thought I read somewhere that Grapefruit juice was a no no.

Can someone help????

Am I going bonkers????

Hi ....some bp meds you cant take grapefruit it interacts. Calcium channel blockers (Norvasc) that I took all had warnings on label not to take grapefruit. I was told it applied to all CCBs. Its a relatively new discovery (a year or so) but your pharmacist should have a list by now of all drugs that are affected and any warning given on label. Granma (who lives with us) takes propranolol and typed on the label is Do not take with Antacids, Iron or Calcium. Hope this helps

,

I know that prograf interacts with grapefruit. It causes it to be absorbed at higher concentrations than normal. Something to do with enzymes Jerry can probably give more specific reasons.

...grapefruit and grapefruit juice are contraindicated with many

drugs and prenisone may be onew of them....we hada list posted here a

while ago and I think I have it in my files...I take prograf and it is

contraindicated in its literature.

The main reason is an enzyme it contains that either dilutes or enhances

the desired effect of the med. I'll sendwhat I have.

Yes, you may be going bonkers, but I don't know you well enough to

determine that, perhaps if you asked your doctor..

Carole, when are you moving to Reno? That is really quite different than Ohio!

Jerry, I get what you are saying about the alt's and lft's not being a measurement of damage itself - and you are scarring me! I continue to get the red spots, brusies, breath probs, itching, etc... But my doc says because numbers are normal not to worry - his constantly saying that has me even more worried. But I too have probs with nuetriphils, and what ever the other one is and just read recently that is also expected in liver damage/cirhosis/pbc?. So what is a lady to do? Well, this one I guess will just wait out the two weeks til bx, and then wait the week or two for results. I have no other choice. My doc is head of the department of hepatology at OHSU, one would think he would be more on top of things. I certainly hope when I move to Reno I can find some one who has his you know what together on this disease. Still waiting for blood results from hep and rhumie. Makes me mad I have to call them to get them - it's long distance. But they are busy. Any way, I will work hard not to get too scared, got more important and happy things to think about. But I am telling you, if I see you forceful one more time I may just swoon. ;)Love 'ya,Carole K
