Sara,

Have you been tested for Sjorgen's(sp?)? The dry mouth and ulcers

sound like it. Do you have very dry skin and eyes? Just a thought.

Take care,

<< I have heard on other ACM person say they had these symptoms.......just

wanted to know if there were more........

Itching like something is crawling on you......it almost feels like an

allergic reation........but when tested nothing shows up.

Dana - this can be a caused by a nerve being under increased presure and

related to nerve dysfunction CAUSED BY increased csf fluid caused presure on

the nerve . Since it's troubling you quite a bit I'd ask your primary care

doctor or neurologist if trying one of the antidepressant or anticonvulsant

medications used to treat dammaged nerve symptoms would be a safe thing for

you to do . Other sensations that can be related to this include a deep

burning / tingling or intermittantly numb sensation like your body part has

" fallen asleap " and is in that waking up stage for examples ...it's often a

form of " neuropathic pain " and it can be intense /severe and move around too

..

I had to giggle that I was getting little ZAPPY /squigly sensations on

various parts of my scalp that felt like an INSECT crawling around in my hair

( LICE __ YIKES ) sensations WITH an itchy component that had me instantly

reaching up to scratch . No lice -- eventually it stoped . A year or so

latter back this came and I did my best to ignore it - BIG mistake ...I'd

been babysitting neighbor kids ...AND gotten lice !! BEST NOT to ignore this

one again ...I know now to have someone check carefully if it ever starts

back up again !!

( Hope that gives everyone a chuckle like the memory of the whole thing does

me - but I should add that I turned out to be HIGHLY ALLERGIC to the commonly

used treatments for lice OR the lice " saliva - numbing junk " they inject as

the bite site to get a blood meal - the doctors wern't sure which. But I

ended up with head to toe hives and a SERIOUS medical condition as a result

too ...on 6 different meds just to get the ALLERGY STUFF back under control

....and learned from the dermatologist a NON CHEMICAL way to kill of the lice

as well - anyone needing that info just write to me offlist since its NOT

chairi related -- LOL . )

" " Its driving me nuts

today. I have also had heart palpitations....racing at times >> " "

This is a much more SERIOUS symptom ...and should be checked out pronto by

your primary care /neurologist or neurosurgeon . They may want to have you

wear a halter monitor to record your heart for a couple /few days ...or have

cardiac testing /and or a tilt table test to look for the underlying problem

....IN A SMALL percentage of chiari patients this can be caused by presure on

your brainstem which controls your heart and could lead to SERIOUS

complecations like a stroke ( often during sleeping ) .

Cardic irregularity symtpoms is one of the THREE that the doctors URGE us to

take seriously and ASK OUR PRIMARY CARE or neurologist to do the same thing

if we experience them . AT times they will turn out to be within the scope of

safely taking a wait and watch approch too ..but we SHOULDN " T try to make

that judgement ourselves .

The other two symtpoms they urge us to take very seriously are having either

drop attacks or passing out ...and having swollowing difficulties that lead

to aspriating either food or liquids . ALL THREE of these should be red flags

to get fast attention from your doctors .

It's not something to wait /and watch by instead deserves your doctors QUICK

attention to sort through finding the cause . PLease call your primary care

doctor for the first available appt or cancelation - waiting the normal time

for a " non emergency " appt of two or three weeks ect isn't a good idea .

When in doubt go to ER if you can't be seen soon .

IF you experience any warning signs of either a stroke or heart attack please

call 911 and have the paramedics get you to ER for immediate evaluation too

....it's not worth risking the aftermath or posiblity it's either one !! (

DON " T wait and write the list hoping well all reasure you ...we CAN " T do so /

we arn't doctors here and would do everyone a BIG diservice to try and GUESS

/ we might well be wrong !! - and you could miss that early treatment window

for stroke medications that can lessen the severity too ! )

When I am having a " pressure filled head day, " I notice that my face and neck

feel dry, itchy and warm. I actually get red patches on my face and neck.

The feeling extends down my upper arm up to my elbow. If I stretch my arms,

the skin feels dry and burns. The other night the burning sensation was a

little like I was baking in the sun without lotion on. I scratch the top of

my arms sometimes until the skin actually opens up. I try putting cover up

(makeup) on my face and the red just shows through.

I do have a Mitral valve prolapse which causes heart palpitations at times.

The other day I was just washing my dishes and it took my breath away. I

have lived with the MVP since I was 17. I can say that the palpitations have

become more frequent since my apparent Chiari symptoms have been coming out.

I am seeing my doctor on Tuesday next week to check my heart for me.

Unfortunately, he is on vacation this week. If I continue to get these

feelings, I will go to the emergency room.

One last strange thing is sweating under my arms. No where else, just my

arms. So bad that at times I change my shirt throughout the day. For a 39

year old woman, this is not only humiliating, but downright yucky. I have no

idea why this happens. I can only wear certain types of materials.

I certainly hope my visit to North Shore in May helps me to understand some

of these things. I can't stand looking in the mirror at this red patched

sweaty woman anymore. LOL Oh wait, did I forget the puffy eyes....I am

certainly a sight for sore eyes. Thank God my husband still thinks I'm

beautiful...I think he should get his eyes checked.

My symptoms at this point are only the rapid heart, that I am aware

of anyways (and that was because the docs made me aware of it!).

Physically I feel fine, although I tire early in the evening on work

days. Is it possible that I have symptoms and don't know it? When

would I consider them dangerous? This is all too new and confusing

to me, so I am really thankful I found this group!

It is possible that you have just gotten used to your symptoms. After I

started PTU and felt SOOO much better,I realized how shaky and starving I

was before meds. If your heartrate is not dangerously high, then just have

your blood drawn every month. My docs let me do that for over a year.~jen

It is possible that you have just gotten used to your symptoms. After I

started PTU and felt SOOO much better,I realized how shaky and starving I

was before meds. If your heartrate is not dangerously high, then just have

your blood drawn every month. My docs let me do that for over a year.~jen

Have you looked at a checklist of symptoms? I found one on

about.com, and also on my mom's medical software.

I was amazed at how many I fit, especially the depression, mood

swings, irritibility, etc. There were others like itchy skin and dry

eyes that I attributed to the cold weather, the gas heat in my house,

and my environmental allergies. The more common ones like a rapid

heart beat, I had never noticed.

I've been on Tapazole and Atenolol for 3 days and I already feel much

better. I can sleep at night again, and I have no more hand shakes.

FYI there's also an extended symptom list put together by this group, in the

Files section of the home page.

it would be nice if you gave the URL for this section- just cuz it can be

confusing...

Re: Re: symptoms

In the files section from the home page for group there is an extended

symptoms list that was put together in this group. Once you go over that

list, even more things may be made more clear to you.
