YES, you are absolutely right. I hate that full, stuffed feeling, but I did

tend to eat little bits all day long. And I DID have a sweet tooth, big

time. I would not have sugary stuff in the house, cause I knew it would make

me miserable until it was gone.

I decided to bake brownies for a church function last night. I bought the

brownie mix on Tuesday and it has been sitting on the counter all week. I

did not fear the brownies, did not crave them. I made them and ate one very

small piece. Sent them on their way to church in complete peace.

Unfortunately the plate returned home with 3 brownies on it. I got up in the

middle of the night and ate all three of them. When will brownies ever just

be brownies?? I had a glimpse of what that must be like, what normal people

must feel like in the presence of brownies, but ultimately, at 3;20 am, the

brownies won.

Even with a drink, I can't eat that much. Don't even talk about french

fries. I love them but they hate me. If I eat so much as two fries, I wind

up losing it! It's a good thing for me because before my surgery, I loved

fast food. Now, my meats must be very tender. I can eat my veggies no

problems. Let's see, pizza...I eat off the topping of one slice. Subway

sandwiches, a footlong will be four meals for me. Now salad, I can eat my

weight in that...lol. I guess even with the surgery, we are all very

different.

<< Hi Jo Rahn:

I had the RNY procedure done 15 months ago and I can barely eat a

small cheeseburger (when I do eat one). I don't see how on earth your

friend can eat that large of a meal in one sitting without getting sick

or being in a h**l of a lot of pain. If I eat one more bite than my

pouch can handle, I know it for about an hour afterwards and it isn't

fun. >>

-----------------------------

Maybe Jo's friend has the same problem I have had. I could eat 4 times what

my pouch is supposed to reasonably be able to hold, from the time I came home

from the hospital 14 mos ago. Dietician's guidelines said 4 oz 6 times a day

for the rest of your life. Four ounces never once filled me up and I would be

STILL hungry AND hungry again inside of 10 or 15 minutes. I have toughed it

out so far by just going hungry and drinking water and coaxing myself thru

each quarter hour to " wait a few more minutes. " For some of us, this surgery

just doesn't work the way it does for the majority, and I don't really know

why. My doc has steadfastly refused to scope me; did get a UGI but I don't

think those show if there's a stretched stoma. I kinda doubt that's the

problem since this has been since day one and so no time really for stretch

to occur. But I'd just like to know for sure. Did read not too long ago that

some of us just plain have faulty neuro-transmitters and so our brains just

NEVER get the " I'm full " message. Wonder if someone will ever come up with a

drug to fix THAT?

Forgot to say on my other post about BK and McD burgers, I only eat 1/2 the

bun if it's a cheezburger (the 1/2 that the cheez is sticking to, lol); toss

the whole bun if no cheez.

>>>Even with a drink, I can't eat that much. Don't even talk about french

are all very different.

yep, we are. And I think it has to do with what we are willing to do to

ourselves. If, since the surgery, you have never eaten that much, you still

can't. But if you slowly work your way up, first eating half a hamburger,

then 3/4, then the whole one, you get to where you can eat a lot. You know

your pouch is full, starting to hurt, and you eat anyway, take a couple more

bites. Finish off what you started. This isn't the wise thing to do, of

course, but it's a matter of letting those old " medicate depression with

food " habits back into your life. It's amazingly subtle, going from eating 2

ounces of food to a foot-long sub.

There's that, and also different people react differently to different foods

My best friend who had the exact same surgery I did (at the same place)

cannot tolerate a potato in any form, ever. Potatoes don't bother me, but

milk does. Milk doesn't bother her as much.

Another anomaly I cannot explain is that I can eat more while dining with

other people, than I can alone. If I'm talking and enjoying the company of

whomever I'm with, I can just happily keep munching away, mindlessly going

on and on, and I will eat a lot more of what is on my plate than I will when

I am home alone. I will hurt afterwards, because I'm too full, but that

doesn't always stop me. I've had to become very mindful of every bite, to

stop this.

I can eat about 3/4 of a regular Mc's hamburger. I usually get a

bacon cheeseburger when I go to a restaurant. I eat a few french fries

and then 1/3 of the burger. I take the rest home and get two meals out

of it. I always have two or three glasses of diet soda before the

burger comes to the table and one or two more glasses with the burger.

I deliberately drink with my meals so as to be able to eat more food. I

am one of the 15% of WLS patients who has a problem keeping weigh on,

not off. The only way I can keep my weight up is to reverse the Pouch

Rules and drink with my meals and eat some high caloric foods. It was a

real struggle to get my weight back up to 190 from 178, but the surgeon

said to either eat more or he would put me on an IV.

I know that nobody believes me, but I swear that even pre op I never in my

life ate 2 hamburgers at a time. I really don't know how in the hell I got

to 300 pounds or why I'm still at 220.

B

Oh, I believe you . I do think that there are some of us that have such

efficient bodies that even eating normal amounts of food was WAY too much

food...as we processed every bit of it and turned it to fat. I remember

never eating more than anyone else..and I was not a closet eater either. I

could never figure it out...why I am fat and they are thin? But ya know...I

also never had any energy either. I was also very worn out and tired all the

time...so I hibernated. While I ate normal amounts of food...it was WAY too

much food for my slow metabolism and hibernating body. Now that I have this

tiny pouch and am distally bypassed...I feel just about normal. So, I fear

that if I ever let myself get back to eating what other people eat...I'd

regain the weight. Some of us are just like that. Our bodies are fat

sponges. Ah well...at least we found something to fix it. We just have to

keep it fixed!

My way of making food " un-eatable " is to pour a very large amount of salt all

over it, so that while it still looks ok, it would taste horrid, and I couldn't

eat it, even if I wanted to. This works really well at restaurants when I know

I need to stop eating and probably won't if the food remains sitting in front of

me.

doc carolyn, just my opinion, of course

: I would have thrown them away. My husband brought home Nachos and

sauce along with his meal, I ate a few, then threw them out. When I say,

throw out. I mean either the garbage disposal or crush them and pore over

trash. Because I don't trust myself to not go trash picking in the middle of

the night. ;) Fay Bayuk

I can eat a whole cheeseburger, maybe 10 fries and wash it down with a

drink. Obviously the wrong thing to do ... probably why I've regained 20 lbs

in 2 years ... Trying very hard to get back to basics. I know the rules, the

supplements, the protein drinks .. I'm doing all that, exercise .. the thing

is I feel like I've pushed that envelope, that limit .. I know where it is

and I know I can get to it again .. which is the daily temptation I face ..

resisting it .. the lure of food .. just as I did as a preop ...

Some days I win the battle, some days I lose.
