I wouldn't say a thing unless asked at this point. Can you imagine how she

feels after enduring a month in the hospital (not your fault) and has lost

less than 50 pounds? I have a similar friend who I kind of shepherded

through the process. She had a horrible recovery. She's lost plenty of

weight, perhaps 100 out of 200 excess, but it's obvious she has no intention

of changing her eating habits too much. You know, Starbucks and a scone

with icing for breakfast.

We're all just different and this was just *my* $.02

I'm a proximal RNY, 15 months out from surgery, have lost 85 pounds. I can

eat a small/medium type salad, and could eat about 20% (less than a quarter)

of a quarter pound hamburger. It was almost a full year before I could eat

any hamburger period and keep it down longer than 2 minutes.

Damn, a whole 1/4 pounder...... Man... I thought it was bad that I could eat

1/2 of a cheeseburger, no bread, from the happy meal at 14 months out......

Sounds like there are some plumbing problems with this chic.

Can any of you actually eat an entire hamburger? To this day, I cannot do

ground beef very well. It's just too heavy in the pouch!

I can eat that much easy!! But the point is what the ____ business

do I have going to a Mc's?? Get serious. The problem starts

when you walk in the door, not when you smack your lips after downing

a quarter pounder with cheese, reach for a french fry and wash it

down with a DIET coke! This is something we can ALL agree on! LOL.

: many of us are like you. The poster who said she now eats only 1 or

two slices and used to eat a whole pie sounds more like my husband. Preop I

could only eat 1 or two slices of pizza. My meals were very normal and I do

not have a sweet tooth. But and that is a big but (pun intended) I would

graze. Pretzels, chips etc. A little at a time, but all of the time. I

think I was able to consume a full bag of pretzels a day. We are truly all

different. Fay Bayuk

>>>Can any of you actually eat an entire hamburger? To this day, I cannot do

ground beef very well. It's just too heavy in the pouch!

Yep, with no problem. Over the spring I got to eating 2 Mc's

Cheeseburgers (they were 2 for $1 ya know), a small fries and a soda. Of

course the soda was washing out the pouch, but I could finish it all in 30

minutes or so. Also tried a Whopper once, and again, could finish it, with

drinking, in about half an hour, maybe less. A couple of times I finished

off a foot-long Subway sandwich, took maybe an hour but I did. No problem to

finish off a couple slices of pizza, more if the crust was thin. I'm not

proud, just saying I could.

I've stopped, in case anyone was wondering. Lowest weight loss was 200#. The

day early this summer when I got on the scale and it said 250, I panicked,

and have been eating WAY more sensibly ever since. Also did the " 3-day

jumpstart " with only protein shakes, water and maybe half a cup of soft food

per day, and that seemed to help a great deal in re-training my pouch to be

happy with smaller amounts. It also brought back dumping, which was pretty

much gone. I was snacking on caramels -- only a couple at a time, spaced out

over the day, I could easily eat a pound a day and sometimes did, without

dumping. A couple of days ago, I had 3 of the Tootsie Roll midgies (a

serving, according to the bag, is 12), and I dumped big-time, so it's good

to know that's back, and if I don't goof around with it again, hopefully it

will stay.

It's an amazing thing, that we do this to ourselves, after all we've been

through, but I had gone back to eating almost like old times. I am SO glad I

stopped that insanity!

On the other hand, I didn't snack at all, still don't. Do 4 feedings. But

that is an effort. I'd prefer one meal. One meal equal to those 4 feedings.

I COULD eat many burgers. But then I'd swing the other way and live on

salads for weeks on end. I gained no matter what, burgers or lettuce. There

was no winning with food, only gaining.

In fact, maybe post-op life is a bit easier for the volume eater. I had to

learn TO eat more often, whereas snackers have to learn to stop eating. I

dunno.

But I could definitely eat in volume. Mega volume. For me, the only way to

lose was to go cold turkey. No solid food for weeks on end.

What a miserable, miserable life. Skipping milk & sugar is the easiest

thing I EVER did.
