,

Hope you get some responses to this to help you make an informed

decision. I first noticed that I didn't have the lung capacity I

used to when I couldn't blow up a balloon--imagine all this hot air

and not being able to blow up a balloon! lol

Good luck!

BOB I would get a second and a Third Oppinion before i get one .I

can't speak for you ,but for me i was told only as a last resort .

My Pulmonologist gave me a Bad rating because my Plate vibrated when

i blew out hard during the test .I said have you seen this

before, the vibration shows on the chart it in turn causes the air to

come out wrong .He said wat do you mean i said the flucuation .Oh i

dont know what that is. I knew right away he was an Idiot .All he

knew was how to run the Machine .Tests Interpretations are all

subjective .Did they explain how the test is graded or how it

works .Also If your a smoker BETTER QUIT this will affect the test

dramatically .GEO

Hi ,

I think you have been given lots of good advice. Definitely seek

other opinions. As Geo once posted...you cant trust all doctors. Our

local doctor almost killed my husband.

After reading what others have said, if I were in your position, I

wouldnt have it done.

---Hi Jane:

My left knee does when I get tired and my right knee does

every once in a while but not both at the same time.I guess it just

goes along with it.

hey jane anne,

i'm sure opinions and experiences on the forum are

varied but my braces are really not too bad. and they

help enough that the little bit of discomfort is worth

it to me. however, i may be singing a different tune

when the weather gets hot;-) i haven't had them

through a north carolina summer yet. maybe worth

investigating if your knee buckling gets to the point

where you're feeling too unsteady. hope this helps.

I think waiting till Summer would be the better option. You'll need

more than a week to get to feeling well enough to deal w/ a class full

of 5th graders. I have a 5th grader at home and it was all I could do

to deal w/ her for 1 weekend 10 days after surgery. LOL! She spends

summers w/ her dad.

Definitely wait til summer. You will NOT feel like

going back to a bunch of 5th graders in only a week...

plus with all the hussle and busstle around the

holiday season.

I went back to work after 2 weeks, but I work in an office with no stairs to

climb and a desk to sit at most of the day. I'm not sure I was ready after 1

week to go back to work. I was still getting used to the new tummy, way of

eating and resting a lot.

I definitely agree here. My wife is a teacher and she would not think of it

if she were able to have the surgery right now. Most surgeons will tell you

that you need about six weeks to really recuperate and that is pretty

accurate given what I went through this summer.

Hey Joan,

I agree with , I think waiting til school is out is better. God

willing....everything will be fine, but your body may need more than a week to

heal enough to feel like going back to work. And I wouldn't want you to do to

much to soon. If for some reason there is a complication, you won't have to

worry about who is taking care of your class. Unless its an emergency that if

needs to be done asap, like you said you waited this long. Best of Luck. Sherry

My doctor actually brought up wls as an idea to me back in early/mid

2004. I told her I had a year of graduate school left and didn't want

to disrupt that. Looking back I could have easily done this between

semesters given two weeks. That might not work for everyone. Also,

looking back, I always think my masters were easier than the

bachelors I went after in many respects. Both my masters were

conveyed to me with highest honors (4.0 GPA) while working full time

over 3.5 years.

I guess, if I was told by my future self that it was no problem back

in 2004 I probably still would have waited just because of the CHANCE

of complication or 4+ week of recovery. There's no shame in waiting

to get your life in order for this surgery. It's a BIG change(s).

Do I regret waiting or wish I could have done it in 2004? Hell I wish

I could have done it in 1994! Do I dwell on that and shed a tear over

the years lost, heck no. That's severely defeatiest. I'm about

getting healthy and staying healthy.

Short recommendation I would wait.

Good luck with your decisions and surgery!
