I started on Pravastatin about 3 months ago...my cholesterol is about the same as yours...

Sometimes I just want to dump ALL medications down the toilet and be FREE.

I'll bet you feel the same way...but I need to be grateful for modern meds I guess.

I sure hope you are doing 'better' today.

Sher, i took lipatore (SP?) for years and it worked so well. THEN I started acheing and could hardly go anywhere my joints hut and were swollen.. it was the lipatore. Now my cholesterol is around 240 but I am not going back on

I want to do the same thing and want to drop all doctors, until I realize:

I would have virtually no stomach or esophagus left.

My arms and legs would be making me miserable every hour of the day.

My low thyroid would be impacting me greatly and making me less able to function.

I would be getting no sleep.

I would be throwing up after each meal.

So I think I'll stick with my medication......lol

As I said Bruce, I need to be grateful for modern meds.

I'm glad you have meds to treat what you itemized.

It's only sometimes that the cure is worse than the cause.

Oh, I know....thats why we have to become knowledgeable and also pay

attention and get blood tests.

There is no medication, no vitamin, no supplement, no food.....nothing

that doesn't have some risk of side effects. We have to learn what's

likely and how to monitor for it and to watch signs of our bodies.

Everyone reacts differently too. I have had some wild reactions to some

meds. Requip (took for neuropathy and restless limbs but it was

initially a Parkinson's drug) made me look and act like I had

Parkinson's. I've tried over thirty different psychiatric meds before

they concluded I'm med resistant in that area so could not be treated by

medications. Anti-anxiety meds would either put me to sleep (for like 23

hours) or would make me ten times as anxious. One med for sleep made my

vision as blurry as if not wearing glasses. Some were like being on

speed. One made me sweat profusely like I was outdoors in 100 degree

weather and feel like I was out in it too.

But it's the hidden side effects that are more the problem. For those of

us on many meds, monitoring them with blood tests is crucial. How can

you know if your dosage of a thyroid med is right without seeing how you

are? Even a simple med I had recently added, Vitamin D. After three

months at 50,000 i.u. a week I went back and now well in range. So, now

trying one per month and see where that puts me.

The statins, like Lipitor, are being found to have tremendous benefit

regardless of cholesterol in many tests being conducted. On the other

hand they all have side effects too. That is putting doctors in a

quandry at the moment because there is much consideration to prescribing

them for all patients at a certain age by some medical professionals.

Now, if someone can just come up with a statin with fewer side effects.

I understand all you write Bruce.

I too am med resistant and especially pain meds!

I'm confident at the time that I am being monitored ok. My body sure lets me know if something is wrong!

Sher It's Amber the red headed twin. They will be 17 the day after Christmas. I just sent my Dr an e-mail asking how long she would be contagious and she sent one right back saying my condition is to fragile to risk exposure. So Little Amber is just broken hearted. I told her I will bring her up here for their spring break.

This is going to be such a strange Christmas for us. But it's ok. I just hate it that this may be my last and I can't be with everyone. I do think we have enough memories of Christmas' past.

Well, I think the same way but use it to my benefit. By realizing that

any year could be my last I don't put anything I really want to do off.

I make sure I pack as much in as possible and I live it like my last.

There is no limit as to how many times I can repeat that.

As to Amber not getting to come, you're right in not letting her but

also thinking ahead to spring break. That can be her special time and

trip and even better. Gives you another time to look forward to.

I probably find germ/disease/virus/infection avoidance more of an

aggravation with this disease than anything simply because its so

contrary to the way I always lived. However, I do recognize its

importance and I do avoid at any cost. Not saying I still can't pick

something up but not exposing myself anytime I don't have to. I'm glad

to see you doing the wise thing.

Peggy ... remember when Vicky wanted to see another Christmas, and her daughter's wedding and so on? I think that was 2 years ago and she is still here. Keeps having a rebound to better health.

We'll all just enjoy THIS Christmas and I surround you with prayer.

Amber will be glad to come for spring break...

MB... I hope your Merry is Happy too.

We may not see family for Christmas. We are snowed in here in Oregon. I've never seen snow like this here. Hwys and business closed, trucks lined up like trains due to closures.

But, we're ok. We don't need anything and our power is still on.

Our poor little Lola has a problem going potty however... lol. Rich takes her out and she disappears in the snow it's so deep. A little Doxie has such short legs! Rich cleaned off a spot for her, clear down to the grass...about 9 inches. Now she is ok too.

Merry Happy!

Hi everyone,

The holidays are upon us! Ever since I was a little girl growing up in a neighborhood that was pretty evenly split between Catholic and Jewish I loved the times Hannukah and Christmas fell during the same week. I loved walking around the neighborhood looking at the Christmas lights on some houses and the menorah's in the windows of others.

I just wanted to take time this morning to wish everyone here who is celebrating this week the happiest, most joyful and peaceful holidays possible.

It's a busy week for most of us so posting is likely to be light but we're still here and if anyone needs something we'll be at your service!

We've lots to be thankful for. We've got several transplat survivors in the group now and you all inspire the rest of us. God bless all of you and all of us as we continue to battle this disease.

Merry Christmas and Happy Hannukah to those of us celebrating and a good week to everyone else!

Thanks ... our biggest job is keeping a place cleared for Lola (our mini Doxie) to go potty. It just keeps snowing!

I only go out on the deck and take pictures.

everyone, The holidays are upon us! Merry Christmas and Happy

Hannukah to those of us celebrating and a good week to everyone else!
