Guest guest
This question is certainly not an offenseive one, ... From my personal experience, I believe my son was vaccine-injured. He regressed. He was not born autistic. He used to wave and had a few words and gestures and eye contact; he would blow kisses and reached all of his developmental milestones on time...and then it all went away and he stopped the words and the gestures and the eye contact. At the same time, all the medical clues were there- the ear infections, the excema, the constipation, more ear infections= more antibiotics, the yeast - didn't realize all the " diaper rash " was a serious problem at the time... So as a baby he was genetically predisposed, perhaps, to developing autism, but I believe in my heart that if he had not had all the vaccines and the antibiotics that he may not have developed a full- blown case of autism. We have the genetics in our family of crohns and celiac and diabetes and thyroid issues and other autoimmune issues so it is really no surprise that the diet is working for him. And again-- it is not for every child!! Some children have autism from birth and this is very likely a different subset of autism. This being said, however, the autism -from -birth kids could also be heavy-metal injured from the womb, when the mother got a flu shot or the rhogam shots or cavities filled or ate too much tuna fish, etc etc. and then their predisposition to the genetic variables may have started earlier, and the diet can still be very effective for them!! I believe there is genetic autism (as told by chromosomal testing- fragile x, rhett's syndrome, etc) and there is acquired autism. It is helpful to rule out the genetic/chromosomal types as you are making your decision whether or not the diet would be helpful. -- Expect a miracle! Guest guest
There is a part of me that beleives Marisa was born this way, especially now that I am watching my 3rd child. Marisa had a few words, her milestones were within range, but I watch Norene and she is just a motor mouth which Marisa is not and was not. Around that 18 month mark, if anything fell out of her hands it was terrible, the screaming and nothing could comfort her. When I became pregnant with Norene I knew I had to do something to get Marisa to go to her dad instead of me. I was the only person and my late father who she could comfort her. I was always afraid to take her out, when she would explode at the doctors office I made excuses, too tired, didn't eat, nap time anything but say out loud WHY IS SHE DOING THIS!!!! Now I know about sensory issues, as ababy I could put her in her crib and she would sleep 12 hours but never call for me when she woke up. Unlike Norene or my oldest who always did and do. Marisa up until just a few months ago never would or wanted to sleep with us(I Know) but still. She only fell asleep in my arms 5 times. She is now 4 and a half and last night was the 3rd time she came to us and wanted to sleep with us, this is so much better then that terrible scream and wakng everyone up. All I know is I don't know I keep talking (or typing) hoping I might figure it all out. I expect miracles everyday- as I told them in the IEP the other day I expect greatness from Marisa just as I do from the other two girls and I hope they too expect greatness from Marisa or get off this train. Sorry to go on. Thank you for being there O n Friday, June 6, 2003, at 11:18 PM, Harlan wrote: > This question is certainly not an offenseive one, ... > From my personal experience, I believe my son was vaccine-injured. Guest guest
Sometimes we never figure out what caused the Autism, we all have ideas but it could be any number of things or a combination of things, listed quite a few in her post. The important thing is to not blame ourselves and just stay in the here and now and do the best that we can. I am a firm believer that eventually it does come, it just takes time. That is wonderful that you expect greatness from your daughter, sometimes I think we all feel sorry for our kids at one time or another. I have done this many times and still do occasionally. However feeling sorry for Abby isnt going to make her more functioning. I have goals for her, not unreasonable goals but they are there. She has progressed so much in the last 4 years. She went from a child that scored a perfect 0% on her speech evaluation on her initial IEP at 2 1/2. Well she just had her last IEP for PPI and she scored 94%! She is now 6 and has blossomed and come out of her shell so much in the last year. She is reading well above her age level, social skills are still hard for her, however she is getting much better, she only appears as "shy" now, rather then "differant". I believe that the sky is the limit for Abby and she can grow up and do anything she sets her mind to. I believe that for all of our kids, they are all miracles and will grow up and touch so many lives along the way. Abby has made me stop and appreciate all the little things in life, to never take anything for granted. Guest guest
I look forward to next month-I'll try and deal with the anxiety of child care before than. I always get nervous when a new situation arises. My kids are 7, 4 and half and 22 months. But nothing ventured nothing gained! Guest guest
Hi. I'm not really sure about my son - but I think he may have been born autistic. He never developed language (until VERY recently) and the other skills (waving, eye contact), he did (and still does). I didn't actually notice any " difference " in him before and after. As far as the diet, we've kind of limited some of the things that he eats, but not drastically - more of choosing a particular brand rather than omitting something completely. It does seem to make a bit of a difference (if he eats something that he shouldn't he gets really hyper). But that's about it. When I have to give him food different than what everyone else is eating, I just say " nope, he can't have that " . You shouldn't worry about it too much. Just explain that his body reacts negatively to certain foods, the same way a persons body reacts if they eat strawberries or peanuts and they're allergic. My experience has been that most people are very understanding once they understand why. Guest guest
Childcare: Be sure to bring along a bag with diapers/wipes and special snacks that your children like and can eat. Everything should be marked with your name so they know who the bag belongs to and who get the snacks inside the bag. If they can't yet drink from a paper cup, you should have sippy cups in the bag, too. You may want to stay in the childcare room for just a few minutes the first time you bring the children so that you can meet Ellen and let her know who your children are and which bag belongs to them. Guest guest
CONGRATS!!!!!!! You need to talk to your doctor about weight-loss during pregnancy. My friend and coworker has been losing weight on her own program and became pregnant. Her doctor told her to keep being careful with her eating, but to try to maintain her current weight (she has about 75 pounds to go). Take the program in to your doctor, talk it over, and see what s/he thinks. Does your doctor have a nurse practitioner that also works in the office? This person might be better able to spend the time going over this with you. Guest guest
Sounds like the mood I describe as "chewy" 8-) I find that just chewing is marvelously calming, and I go for a pack (or 1/2 pack) of "Fruities". If I'm very stressed, though, or upset in any other emotional way, I find I may actually need to "talk it out" with my sweetie or a friend, and perhaps have a bit of a cry. A bit of a cry does wonderful things to heal and release emotional tension! -Elissa question I have gained weight and isn't due to me being pregnant it is due to over eating...
