Hi Randy-

Welcome to our list. My name is Barbara and my daughter is 4 and

aware that this is a local NJ list? You might feel a bit left out as we

communicate about our monthly meetings and local events. We'd be more than

happy to provide you with some lists that might serve your needs better. But

in the meantime welcome and why don't you tell us about your child?

Janette,

Congratulations, you must feel wonderful and very proud of yourself. Can I

ask how long it took to lose the 27kgs as I have not had my operation yet

and cant realistically imagine losing so much weight.

Well done,

Teala,

I don't know of Nottle myself....... but since you are having your op at The Avenue I assume he's part of Prof. O'Brien's group, and if that's the case then I'm sure you're in good hands. I asked in my last reply to you whether you'd like to have a visitor or two while you're in the hospital..... I'd be happy to come in and chat for a bit if you're up to it, and I'm sure there are others who'd be glad to do likewise. If you're interested, email me off-list and I'll give you my phone no, then you can give me a call if you're feeling well enough..... I only live ten minutes away from The Avenue.

All the best,

I have asked if there is any one in this group who had Nottle do their opp and if so how they found him and his staff I am going in for surgery on the 12th of may and I was wondering if there is anyone going in the same time being from the country I don't have anyone to talk to

Hi Antonietta,

I think we all felt the same way as you are feeling prior to surgery,

after dieting and failing so many times it becomes second nature to

think we are going to fail at this one too. Rest assured, this is a

great procedure and the results on the whole have been fantastic. I

got very moody and scared prior to surgery, but the elation after a

few weeks makes it all worth while.

A few have had hair loss but not all. A sensible diet can help to

alleviate this problem. Often losing weight slowly rather than very

fast can be attributed to it as well. I was told to take liquid zinc

if I had any problems but didn't bother. I didn't lose much hair and

it is back to normal now anyway.

Welcome to the gang and I also wish you well on the 2nd. Not very

long to go at all.

Welcome Antonietta. Your feelings are all very normal. I was absolutely

terrified that it wasn't going to work for me and it took ages for me to

realise that Hey, it already had.! I am 19.4kg's down in 7 months. Yes, I

have heard of one person for whom it hasn't worked but that is very, very,

rare. You don't have to be extra-ordinary for it to work either. I was

terrified that unless I completely changed it wasn't going to work. In

fact, we all have similar stories with food and weight gain, and yet for

almost all of us, it has worked to a substantial degree. Some peole lose

huge amounts very quickly, but the average loss is about 1/2 kg per week.

I am sure you will be thrilled with the outcome. Warning....you may feel

fairly ordinary for about 8-10 days post-operatively.

love, Liz

I am having my surgery on Nov 2nd and am very excited but also

I am very afraid of failure. Has anyone experienced no weight loss

Has anyone experienced hair loss??

Hi Antionetta & welcome,

I see a couple of the girls have answered your

questions, so I will just pop in & say hello & all the

best for 2nd.

You will find us generally, a happy bunch of very

informative people.

Do you mind if I ask how much you weigh at the moment,

& your height? If you prefer to keep this info to

yourself, once again, you are amongst people that

understand.

In fact, anything & everything you are & will feel is

exactly the same as all of us at some time or another,

so don't ever be afraid to ask questions. Eventually

someone will answer you!

Best Wishes

Antonietta,

I know every one else has said the same thing, but I will say it again. What

you are feeling is really normal and for me I felt like i was mourning the

loss of my best friend - food.

But once you are banded, you can still have what you want, but just small

amounts of it. It is by far the greatest thing I have ever done for myself

as a person and as an act of self love. I used to say I've only lost 9

kilos, but then I had to change my thinking and be grateful for my loss no

matter what size and now i feel like wow, I've lost 12 kilos and it's

amazing.

I have had some bad times where I ahve eated too much hich fat food (mainly

when I'm premenstrual) but with the band I still lost 2 kilos that month,

where before I would have put on two kilos.

Don't worry, but don't deny yourself what you are feeling now and go out and

enjoy a few last suppers while you can.

Good luck

Hi and welcome. I am a bit slow on the uptake - busy for a couple of days!

Fear of failure is no surprise - if you are like the rest of us, you have

tried many times to lose weight and it hasn't worked. But there are

probably a few hundred of us on this site alone, and I guarantee that not

one of us has successfully lost and maintained. It wasn't us - diets don't

work. Surgery is great for the majority of us - it is rare for anyone to

put on weight.

The emotions are normal too and if they weren't there, there would be

something to worry about. As for the hair loss, easy peasey fixed. It is

generally dietary.

Good luck! And well done on making a choice that will change your life for

the better.

Banded: September 3 2001

BMI: 43 // 39

Weight: Was ~ 122

Now ~ 109.5

Goal ~ half my excess weight

After that ~ every kilos a bonus!!

Who is your surgeon and wher in Aust do you live. i am happy to converse with you on a regular basis to keep you updated on the process and how I am feeling.

Thanks for your support, it is very appreciated and I did enjoy a lovely last supper on Sat evening, (a dessert at a restaurant shared with my boyfiend which did not have any guilt associated with it!!!) Thanks Cath and ,

I'm glad you can vouch the hair loss is not a permanent thing. I can cope very well with the weight loss, but not keep at all about hair loss!!!

I guess it is one of the things about my body I am proud of and i would be devestated if it started to fall out and not grow back!!

Hi Sue,

Thanks for your well wishes!

Yes, I have found that it has been great talking with the group and has given me alot more confidence and positive feedback although I am still scared!

I think my weight is approx 130kg but I will confirm this on Fri when I am admitted, you probably think it is a bit silly that I don't know my weight but I have spent years avoiding seeing how much I weigh. I am a size 26.

My boyfriend also tooks some photos of me on the weekend to document my journey as I have no photos because I have always avoided the camera. Hope fully i will see a difference in a few months time and as the nurse at the hospital I will be staying at so beautifully put it "melting away" .

How long has it been since your surgery and how are you gioing at the moment. Living in the Sunshine coast I'm sure summers will be easier to face now with the weight loss!!
