Seriously, I do want to chew the fat with you about the legal/political aspects of coercion to non-AA groups and stuff, so if we can't get it in here and you leave, I'd like to continue it with you on a Legal forum or something. Make sure you keep in touch, k?

Oh, I'll be around recovery politics venues. It's become a preoccupation. ;)

Hello Steve,

I have missed a few posts recently, so must have missed this comment

made by someone here. I've been reading and posting here since last

December, I believe, and a comment such as the one you refer to does

not seem typical of list members here, unless they were joking.

If you can point me to the reference where someone here really said

that, that might back up your position. Otherwise, I think your

comments here are *way* offbase and do not characterize this list in

general.

I can't remember the person, but I can tell you it was Friday, July 27 or

Saturday, July 28, the first or second day I joined. The comment to that

effect was made by a person in what seemed to be all seriousness. A couple

of other people discussed his general ideas. They didn't embrace them, but

they didn't say..... that's looney, either.

Ken,

> Mona,

Ken, *I* am very curious how you think that there could be anything

even resembling " AA without God. " !!!!!!!!

Giving your will over to the HP, aka GOD, is the fundamental premise

that AA and what all the step groups are based on. If you don't have

that, you don't have an XA step group. The conversion is based on

powerlessness over [fill in the blank]. Personal powerlessness leaves

open the possibility of direction from God and it is *this* aspect

that makes XA what it is. Even if you substitute a different " HP, "

the conversion to being *other-directed* rather than *self-directed*

is what is important (supposing I were to believe such a thing was

really possible).

I have never been to LSR/SOS, but understand that it is secular and

abstinence-based. As far as I can tell, the *only* thing that it has

in common with AA is abstinence from alcohol. I don't really get that

people are powerless over it...but maybe this is where you are coming

from?

Well take T off his name, and you get " Ripple " ! The only Ripple we

have here is Raspberry Ripple, which being an ice cream clearly shos

his hostility to my OA membership!

We don't say that, either. Nor do we officially proclaim alcoholism is a

disease. Some members choose that as their own belief, but that's part of

the freedom of choice.
