Guest guest
Welcome Catharine, you will probably find some folks over there on this list that can help you out. Don't worry about people saying this will kill you, none of us have died yet. Almost all of us feel healthier than ever and literally walk with a lighter step to the low carb WOE. I have to chuckle, Wanda and I were talking about the naughty corner off list. That is a place I tend to go to every weekend. Anyway, I saw the subject line and read it as "new inmate from Germany". LOL - I thought someone else was coming to visit Kim and I in the naughty corner. 190/144/135 12/7/98 Recurring Friday Goal - 142 PS - Wanda, how was that? I didn't tell Terry about your recliner in the naughty corner, it's still our secret! LOL
Guest guest
Do you girls mean to tell me that Wanda has moved FURNITURE into the Naughty Corner? That is supposed to be a place of torment and anguish, punishment for misdeeds, as close as you can get to Hell on Earth. And you girls are MOVING IN La-Z-Boys? That's enough of that nonsense! All of you . . . out of the Naughy Corner! Right now. Back on the straight and narrow. I'm sending in furniture movers to haul away all the creature comforts in that Corner. You've probably got a bag of those new chocolate filled Oreos in there too, you recalcitrant children! Terry168/159/156 (minigoal)/ ? Guest guest
No, NO, NOOOO! We don't have any chocolate filled Oreos in there! I didn't even know they made chocolate filled Oreos! Just what are you doing in the cookie aisle anyway, Terry? Will we be seeing you in the now furniture-less naughty corner? Hey, Wanda, just in case Terry removes the phone, I'll bring my cell phone so we can still call out for dessert pizza! 190/144/135 12/7/98 Recurring Friday Goal -

Guest guest
Welcome :-) Nobody dies on Atkins - in fact, most of us feel a whole heck of a lot better! Just make sure to eat your veggies (this isn't no carb) and take a good multivitamin to cover anything you may miss. As with any diet, if you have any health concerns, you should check with a doctor before starting. Which non-carbohydrate foods are you referring to? The foods listed for induction aren't necessarily free of carbs, just that if you follow his induction guidlines and eat protein, fat, moderate amounts of cream and cheese, and a salad or veggie at lunch and dinner, you'll be under 20 carbs a day which is the induction level. An alternative way of doing induction is to count every carb that crosses your lips (beverages included) and create your own meal plans at under 20 per day. The turtle menus that Terry put together (link at the bottom of each email) are based on 20 carbs a day and are a good template to follow. If you are lucky, the German labels will actually report accurate carbohydrate info. Those in the US have to deal with funky labelling laws that allow manufacturers to say 0 carbs if there is less than 1 carb per serving. This leads to horrible misconceptions about things like 0 carb cream (no such thing!). If you don't have access to low carb products, consider it a mixed blessing. They can be a problem food for some people. You'll be healthier in the long run staying away from processed foods and getting most of your daily carbs from veggies, nuts, cream, cheese, eggs, etc. I'm in Canada and can't get a lot of that stuff either (without paying an arm and a leg for shipping, duty, and conversion). Guest guest
Hi , I know how frustrating Germany can be. I was there for nine months and never got used to having to visit the pharmacy for things I would pick up at 7-11 here. Not to mention everything is closed all the time! I believe that Schlecker has a wide variety of herbal supliments. The labling in Germany might abide by different standards than here. It would seem that a lot of things here that say they have no carbs actually have between 0.1 - 0.4, and things that say they have <1 carb are between 0.5 - 0.9. (to be honest, I don't remember things generally having nutrition labels, at all) I didn't start Atkins until I returned to the states, though. But, you're lucky that Germany is the land of meat! Just avoid the beef, LOL . If you stick with things like salads, eggs, meats, cream, cheese, buts, etc (natural products)--I think you should be OK. Use the carb counter at lowcarbfriends.com if you can't find or don't trust the labels there. Zsasmine " An average sentence, in a German newspaper, is a sublime and impressive curiosity; it occupies a quarter of a column; it contains all the ten parts of speech -- not in regular order, but mixed; it is built mainly of compound words constructed by the writer on the spot, and not to be found in any dictionary -- six or seven words compacted into one, without joint or seam -- that is, without hyphens; it treats of fourteen or fifteen different subjects, each inclosed in a parenthesis of its own, with here and there extra parentheses which reinclose three or four of the minor parentheses, making pens within pens: finally, all the parentheses and reparentheses are massed together between a couple of king-parentheses, one of which is placed in the first line of the majestic sentence and the other in the middle of the last line of it -- after which comes the VERB, and you find out for the first time what the man has been talking about; and after the verb -- merely by way of ornament, as far as I can make out -- the writer shovels in " haben sind gewesen gehabt haben geworden sein, " or words to that effect, and the monument is finished. Guest guest
In order to get to the good stuff in WinCo (where I buy my groceries) I first have to pass the cookie isle, then the snack food isle, then the BAKERY and then the candy bar isle. Ever think American sugar corperation are trying to sabatoge consumers? The most tempting thing is those chocolate filled oreos... I figure I'll have a couple when i get under 200. BTW--an aside, I've been on Atkins a month now (1 month yesterday) and lost 21 pounds (that makes me 224). I'm hoping to lose 10 more before the end of July. >You've probably got a bag of those new chocolate filled Oreos in there too, >you recalcitrant children! > > >Terry >168/159/156 (minigoal)/ ? Guest guest
Art brought home a package of those new "O" things. They are just like the regular ones, except the creme filling is chocolate (not dark, like fudge, just chocolate). I've seen those Changers "O"s in the new Super Walmart, but only in the orange flavor. Again, they are the regular outsides, with a colored, flavored creme filling, which, when dunked in a glass of milk, changes the color from white to the color of the filling. Can't imagine why that is necessary . . . dunking them in milk, to me, is just a waste of a perfectly good "O". And, by the way, I'm the Mama, and what I say goes, you bad naughty girls. Phone privileges are in danger of being revoked unless you kids straighten up and fly right. I'm moving a bed of nails into the corner, along with an electric chair. NOW we'll see who's having fun in the Naughty Corner! Terry168/159/156 (minigoal)/ ? Guest guest
I think I may need to fly right or find someone else's naughty corner, it just doesn't sound nearly as good now. Bummer. I think Terry needs to get more sleep at night, that bed of nails was probably interfering! Terry, make sure you get at least 6 hours of sleep every night. That will give Wanda and I time to go out and play. 190/144/135 12/7/98 Recurring Friday Goal -

Guest guest
Does anyone on this list have experience with doing the induction part of the Atkins programme in Germany? or other parts of Europe? Also, I would be grateful for any information on german support groups. I looked in the usenet archive and found nothing. Thanks in advance! , Yes, I have done the induction program of atkins in Germany in fact in the HEART of Germany It is definately possible I'm not really active on the list as of now as I'm in the states making the final preparations for my June 30th wedding. I should be more active after July 8th. There are many things not available and I chose not to eat sausage and beef but, that's a personal decision with BSE. You can definately do atkins and sucessfully. I've lost approx. 75 lbs since the beginning of this year and more specifics regarding inches and weight lost will be forth coming shortly. Are you a German or American? Where are you located in Germany? Bobbi Jo
