Sue, I was hungry all the time before my surgery too. I had my surgery Jan

10,2000. I have lost 41 lbs. This morning I was 201 lbs. Can't believe it.

Before surgery I was 242 lbs. And yes I do still get a little hungry but

nothing like before. It takes very little to fill me up. I sip on tomato

juice a lot. Make smoothies from bananas, fruit juice/ high protein powder/

toufu sometimes/ flavorings like people put in coffee. Yesterday I made a

big broccoli chicken stuffing casserole for my family which was delicious and

I ate l/4 cup and was totally comfortable. It is like a miracle. Before I

would have eaten the whole thing! I use to get cans of chocolate frosting

and eat a whole can in one day, all kinds of crazy things. I was a food

addict big time. Now I get on my treadmill and go go go and sip water and

feel great. You will too. Borrow the money and get your surgery scheduled.

Hi Sue

You will not be hungry after you have this. The one I had is Roux en Y

gastric bypass surgery and i am never hungry. I had mine Dec 13, 1999 and

have lost 52 pounds. I am very energetic, much more than before. My blood

sugar is down between 122 1nd 133 constantly. i take 10 units of insulin

once a day, compared to 20 mg of micronase and 400 mg of Rezulin. I am so

thrilled about this. The only problem i am having is vomiting a little afte

r some foods that are more textured and I think this may be due to trying to

eat to fast or to big of bites. I have started eating with a baby spoon and

this has helped, now if i can just slow down. Time will finally teach me i

hope. This is a very expensive surgry. $35,000 is what mine cost I don't

know about the mini bypass

if you want to hear more contact me as often as you like .

Sue, I am going to be self pay too, and the MGB is about half of that--around

15,000 if you take the discounts.

Sue,

Sure you are scared. No diet ever does what it promises. But this is

different. It works, you will see. I used to eat constantly. I was always

hungry. The MGB will change that, take the word of all 350 or so of us!

Good luck,

Karin

Sue!! WOW!! That is super!!

I am 1 1/2 weeks post-op, and I am having a real hard time with

the liquids. I can do more than just sip. I have to constantly remind

myself to sip. I don't feel satisfied. But I'm trying real hard to

hang in there. I have slide off the liquids a couple of times and ate a

french fry. Mush it up before I swollow. I know thats cheating, but I

am really craving food. I look forward to the week when I can eat eggs

and oatmeal!! then on to the real mccoy. Did you stick with liquids

the whole month?

I tried some eggs the other day. Well, one bite mind you. and I dumped, I

have learned my lesson. I am one week post op and I am drinking on gatorade

and eating 4 oz of yogurt which I just started yesterday. I have a cracker

now and then with my chicken noodle soup. I have to though that I am not

really hungry. But, I have found out one thing, all the commercials on TV

are about food. I do get really thirsty and I took a couple sips of water

and it came back up as soon as it hit my new pouch. Ouch.

,

Some of what you are describing about water hitting your new tummy and then

coming back up happened to me also. What seemed to do the most good for me

was taking the Carafate 30 minutes to 1 hour before meals and stop eating at

the first twinge I was full. The most difficult for me is not drinking with

meals and having to sip. Sipping just does not satisfy my thirst but I have

learned to live with it. I also found that OJ and Grape Juice was just not

the best thing for my tummy. The non-fat frozen yogurt really satisfies me

and is so-o- o soothing to my tummy.

There are some things that have more texture to them that make me sick. When

I try something new to eat I usually do so when I know that if I get sick and

throw up I am not in a meeting or at work. Hang in there. The new tube will

begin to act like more of a stomach in time.

slow down. You are not ready for any solid food at all. Just

liquids. I am 5 weeks post op and I am just now eating Egg Beaters/ Eggs

have way too much fat in them. We can't tolerate sweets or fatty foods for

a long time and maybe never! Who cares, we want to be slim. Right? We want

to be healthy. Be sure to get the cartons of Dole juice as they have lots of

different flavors and it is 100% juice and is very high in potassium, very

important. EC

, I dont recommend the egg. LOL oh man what a number it did on me. I

called DR R that day when I got so sick and he asked me what have you had

today. I was like uumm uumm well, I scrambled me one egg and took one bite

and I knew then I was in for a ride. I gave the rest to the dogs. I wanted

to try something soft. WRONG....... He then said that is why most of us

lean away from eating fatty food cause it caused us to have dumping. I can

see way. I was SICK.

No No you are not stupid at all. Stupid has nothing to do with it. We all

are former food a holics and it is hard to make the adjustment to the liquids

at first. But the more you do it the better you feel. We have to

encourage one another to sip sip sip and do the juice thing. The first 2 or

3 weeks I minced up celery, potatoes and carrots and cooked them in Chicken

bullion and when they were very tender I added a fat free can of Cream of

Chicken soup. It is delicious and gives you energy. I still cannot

tolerate V8 juice but I do well with tomato juice. Just keep experimenting

and see what sets well in your tummy. That is the main thing. If you feel

nourished then you've got it made!!! EC

Hi!

Mine was 2-7-00, my current menu is yogurt, applesauce, and water--although I

have tried an egg...sits real heavy. Went to my nutritionist today and she

suggested cottage cheese as a protein source. With the water I have been trying

to sip at least 30 ounces per day. Hope this helps.

I thought in the diet recommendations that gatorade was a no-no post-op

because of the sugar --- do they have a sugar free type?

The ultimate in aversion therapy. :-) Your mouth says, " Yes, yes, " but your

tummy says, " no no. " :-) I think I've learned from all of you to try new

foods after surgery only on days that I know I will be home. :-)

Paige, I asked Dr. R about that and he told me that it would probably do me

more good. I started eating it the other day and I have not had one problem

from it.

Sushi......... Yea!!!!

I'm so glad to hear that someone was able to eat sushi. I was really going to

miss that. Of course, with small tummy it is going to be a whole lot cheaper to

eat it.
