Stacey: Hi! I don't mean to butt in, but I seen your posts on METHADONE!!! I have been taking Methadone for pain now for almost 4 years now. When I first started taking it, I felt so bad from all the side effects, ( But I was on a higher dose). So my doctor backed off the dosage and I was able to take it. As of right now, I take 40 mgs 4 to 5 times a day for RSD. Believe me it is the BEST DRUG I have ever taken for the RSD PAIN. My doctor won't take me off of it. In stead he will just increase the dosage. My doctor told me that you don't get a high from this drug, and he is right! You don't feel the narcotic feeling, like you are in another world. (DIZZY and ALL) Ha! But I just wanted to tell you that this is a very good medicine for RSD pain. I will never go off of it, and I am not addicted to it. You can't get addicted to this med, yeah it is Heroin, but not the same as the real drug. I swear by it for the pain, it is the BEST for pain control. I am going to the doctor today

about my break-thru pain, I have taken the fentanyl patch but I started itching so bad, that I had to stop. Has anyone ever taken DEMAROL (sp?) for the pain? I am wondering!! My doctor wants me to think about the MORPHINE PUMP, but I am scared to have this done, because I can't fight infections, I have no spleen. I hope you have a pain free day! I was reading your response about the methadone - I agree, it is the best thing I've had so far. I'm still in a great deal of pain but it is better than the Oxycontin. I saw that your doctor wants you to consider a morphine pump, but you are worried because you can't fight infections. I had asked my doctor about this option and he told me that the morphine pump was no better than taking the pill, but the complications from surgery are way more than the actual benefit from the pump. He said they use it mostly for people who cannot take the oral pill for whatever reason, but it offered the same relief. If you can't fight off infections I would give it some serious thought and ask some more questions about it....just a thought.<hugs> Lori

Janet,

Demerol is GREAT when given as an injection.....whenever I would get a flare, that is what I would get in the ER.

But, Demerol is being banned in all ER's because the Dope Addicts are enjoying the immediate Highs they get from it.

Demerol by injection can be really helpful but it's my understanding that in order for it to be effective when taken orally that you need much higher doses. Barbaraiowa97 wrote:

Methadone can be a really helpful pain med. It's a synthetic narcotic (yes your body can become dependent on it) that acts to relieve pain without giving a "high." They use it also for narcotic addictions because it is a narcotic antagonist (acts against heroin and other opoid substances). BarbaraJanet Underwood wrote:

Lori: Hi! I seen my doctor yesterday about the Morphine Pump, I have been trying to convince him that the pump is not good for me. Years ago, after my first daughter was born I developed a blood disease, called ITP for short. Problems with platelets. I had to have the spleen removed. Ever since then I have had trouble with sickness and injuries and infections. It seems I get everything now, can't fiqure this out. But anyway, I finally have talked him out of the Morphine Pump, I cannot fight infections, and he even said that is was possible that when they put the lead in the spinal cord, that I could have one hell of a infection. No way, I almost died from the spinal cord stimulator, I was told I would have no trouble. Instead I had a horrible time, with a fever 103 degrees and they let me out of the hospital with this fever and I had to go to my doctor just to get better. I had pneumonia and this is one thing I can NEVER have with no spleen. So I guess you are on Methadone also,

and it does good for you, that is great. He put me on Loracet for the break-thru pain, I have been on this for over a year, but have not had them for sometime now, maybe this time it will work. Sure hope so, I am so tired of taking meds. My teeth are falling out because of the meds, keep my mouth dry. I now have to have dentures and now I am looking out surgery in my mouth. Go to a new doctor...when they ask about your prescriptions, tell them you

take Armour...that you had had a high TSH at last testing...no need to mention

you put yourself on the prescription.

Often, you don't need to explain anything. Just tell the new doc

that you are on such-and-such amount of Armour and have been so for

awhile and are doing great.........or that you have been so for

awhile but need to try a bit more........etc.

If you were in Houston, I'd think we have the same Endo. I went to this

woman who is on the top doc list on 's site, and what a joke. I've

never been talked down to like that in my life for self medicating. I

wanted to punch her square in her nose! lol. I honestly don't think I've

ever felt as brow beaten as I did on our first appt.

She was furious that I was taking Armour, and on how I'd gained the bottle

of it. You'd have thought I was a child in a candy store who just couldn't

resist and she was a warden. I had honestly decided that she just liked

hearing herself talk as she told me I had no business taking such a drug,

and told me how 'unstable' it was, blah blah. I'm not sure it's a noble

gesture to actually admit that you're self medicating. You've never heard

the likes of the ranting and raving this dr did when I was honest about how

I obtain it. She demanded to know how I got that prescription. Then I was

informed that it was illegal to get this drug this way.

She then told me that drug addicts would love to see Cocaine be legal, but

it's just not good for us? I never could figure out the correlation

between Cocaine and Armour Thyroid? Unless she determined that I am taking

Armour just to 'feel good' without good reason.

I totally wasted my time earlier today at a docs office. She spoke to me

like I was a complete idiot. When I told her I've been highly symptomatic

of hypo and told her my TSH was 3.3, she said that was fine and she

wouldn't treat me either for thyroid. I also saw her because I have fallen

numerous times and am concerned about that, however, I believe it's a part

of the fibromyalgia that I have.

As usual, I'm open for any thoughts.

I get so mad when I hear about doctors like that. I had TSH of 2.4

for years and was hypo. Nobody bothered to do a T4 and T3 test, or

any other investigation. My TSH was 3.0 when I had practically no T4

in my blood. I regret I didn't treat myself 8 years ago. I would

have been so much better off. Instead, I trusted those stupid cruel

doctors. So when I finally got treatment, it caused me so much

suffering from the years of low thyroid and low adrenal. I could

have avoided major surgery had I had treatment early on. There was

an excellent Life Extension Magazine article about a year ago on

research showing how people with TSH above 2.0 go on to get overt

hypothyroidism within the next 10 to 20 years. There is plenty of

evidence supporting early treatment rather than waiting untill it

fully develops. In fact treating early reduces the amount of auto-

antibodies that develop. They tend to get worse as it is allowed to

continue. Also, if the thyroid problem is auto-immune related, which

most women's are, treating early can actually cure the person after

6-8 years because it lowers auto-antibodies so much that they loose

the message to attack.

I have run across people on the tropical traditions coconut oil

newsgroup who have been treating themselves for years and years and

are doing just fine. They just use symptoms.
