Guest guest
I'm going to have to try that. I have the chocolate protein powder and put bananas in it. Where did you get the strawberry? They told me that I have to find a powder that has at least 21 grams of protein and less than 110 calories. > > > > > >> > > > > > >> Jessie, > > > > > >> I am so very sorry you have had such a hard time. Guest guest
Oh I know how you feel. I had the same experience with watermelon. My mother-in-law has WLS last year and I was horrified to se her eat chocolate cupcakes with extra chocolate frosting. I got sick for her just watching. And she would devour peach after peach--I ended up leaving the house all together. " R.D. Abernathy " wrote: Nope. Guest guest
Hi Chele, I am going through the University of Michigan program. The surgeon is Birkmeyer. I still have to go through the nutritional consultations and the psych evals, plus get insurance approval. My first meeting is next Tuesday. I don't have a date yet, but hopefully this will all go fairly quickly. The absolute earliest is 5 weeks, but with my luck it will be more like 5 months. Are veggies like broccoli and corn OK after several months post-op? I know there are issues with brocoli causing gas, but is it too fibrous for the pouch? Broccoli, corn and squash are my favorites. in MI My surgeon's > > group tells > > > patients not to drink carbonated beverages > > > === message truncated === > > > __________________________________________________ >
Guest guest
I'm only 3 monhs post op and can't tell you how veggies act on my somach--I'm to scared to tell you the truth.Military paid for mine and it was kinda rushed cause my gallbladder was riddled with gallstones. The one thing that sticks out the most in my mind about the whole process was the psych eval. We had to pay $350 for that and all it was for me was a 10 minute conversation with a doc and 30 minutes on a computer answering true false questions! The only thing that I could think was that I could have talked on the phone with the doc and done the answers online at home and saved a 45 minute drive and would only have been out $50. Go figure. Guest guest
My surgeon basically told a group of us (at 3 months post-op) that we could eat virtually anything we wanted. This was a warning more than bragging that we had to be cautious to eat healthy food. I eat broccoli very often (almost every day). I don't have much for gas issues with it but I'm a guy, we're pigs, gas is expected from a guy I guess. I've eaten corn on the cob and off. Squash is great too. One thing about fibrous veggies though, they're quite filling, so get your protein in first. Guest guest
My mother was a social worker with a hard fought/worked MSW so I can't say too many bad things about the psych/mental field. The few classes I took in college on psych seemed to clue in on those really interested in the field as they were the ones who seemed to be able to APPLY the learning to their own life experiences (sort of like potential police recruits understanding a lot about breaking the law from experience in their CJ courses). It seems to be a great field if you don't want to deal in quantifiable measures. Don't get me wrong I went to a psychiatrist for years and he really helped me when I needed it. But even he seemed to consistently be experimenting with me (and I'd assume others) with new meds, new dosages, fewer sessions, more sessions, etc., etc. Maybe there's a method to the madness but it almost seems that it takes a psych to figure out a psych. I took a similar test. My surgeon's on staff MSW said it indicated that the only negative was I might pester or ask for a lot of support post-op. Excuse me? For starters I live alone Charlie and then there's the whole point that you're cutting up my freaking body buddy, you bet I'm going to have questions. What about all the money you're getting for this too? Finally, my surgeon is the one scheduling recurring appointments at infinitum. Can you tell I was somewhat taken aback by this tract of results? Guest guest
Hi, Broccoli is a gas induced nightmare for me, I can do squashes, beans and yes 1/2 ear of sweet corn (Im careful when trying new things like the sweet corn). It is how you cook it as well, I grill most veggies or roast them. I make a awesome butternut soup, and crab bisque. Protein is the key, and if you pack them with protein its all good! I experimented with a cold soup...a cucumber chicken with dill, it was heavenly and perfect for using the summers bounty! --- Mike wrote: > My surgeon basically told a group of us (at 3 months > post-op) that we > could eat virtually anything we wanted. Guest guest
Yeah-I can understand the frusration. The doc was telling me that he wanted to make sure that I wouldn't get depressed then the computer quiz was asking if I see dead people, do I believe in spirits then asked me I I would like to be a florist or a postman. I don't know the logic in that. Mike wrote: My mother was a social worker with a hard fought/worked MSW so I can't say too many bad things about the psych/mental field. Guest guest
One thing I have noticed with the different posts left is that some people who have had WLS do well because they make an effort to change. Seems some think they can go back to eating as they did before. I have been on my liver shrinking diet for 3 days so far and even though I get hungry, I keep telling myself this is for the better and when I get the " head hungries " , I can force them away by saying, nope, I can do better. I am so excited about this and can't wait to start losing. Patty Date of Change - Aug 8th --------------------------------- Groups are talking. We & acute;re listening. Guest guest
My husband thought that this would be a quick fix for me that I would just eat less of the same foods that I use to eat and that everything would be fine. Now that I have changed almost all of the foods and drink liquids that he says are nasty its a little battle every night when I cook dinner. Its kinda funny. I cook dinner for him nd my 3 girls and admist all of that I also incorporate food I can eat and when he takes a bite the faces he makes is so funny. Like they told me that WLS is a tool. You still have to change the way you eat and start getting active. Guest guest
Kathy, Here you go! Enjoy and it is super easy and so good! I didnt add the celery, but I do use it every now and then (1-2 ribs) saute with the onion. I have made homemade croutons and added when served (family loves them) 2T Butter 1T Onion, finely chopped 1/4c chopped carrot 1T Parsley, finely chopped 1 1/2 cups Crabmeat, chopped 2t Flour 2c Chicken broth 2c Cream, light Pinch or 2 of cayenne pepper Salt Few grinds of black pepper In a saucepan, melt the butter. Add the onion and carrot and cook slowly until golden. Add the crabmeat and parsley and cook over low heat stirring constantly (about 4 minutes). Add the flour, stir to blend and cook for 3 minutes more. Stir in the chicken broth and simmer gently for 20 minutes. KEEP PAN PARTIALLY COVERED. Add the cream and cayenne pepper. Heat & add salt to taste. Makes 5 cups. --- CropKitty@... wrote: > In a message dated 7/27/2006 6:53:10 AM Eastern > Daylight Time, > purplepony_00@... writes: > and crab > bisque. > Would you share the receipe with us? > > Thanks, > Kathy > > > [Non-text portions of this message have been > removed] > > __________________________________________________
Guest guest
, I get sick every time I eat broccoli. I chew it up real well, but it never fails, it always comes back up. It also makes my chest hurt for hours before it comes up. So, I avoid broccoli like the plague now. Maybe down the road I'll be able to tolerate it better. in Virginia 299/246/150 (finally back on the downward path after nearly a 2 week standstill) Lap RNY: 5/3/06 Re: Scared in Florida Hi Chele, I am going through the University of Michigan program. Guest guest
Weird! It's even for sale on ebay. http://cgi.ebay.com/CRYSTAL-LIGHT-DRINK-MIX-FRUIT-PUNCH-Sugar-Free-8- qts_W0QQitemZ270011363629QQihZ017QQcategoryZ31821QQcmdZViewItem Actually that's not such a bad price even including shipping. I'm going to have to see if my local Walmarts have their own brand. Ellison wrote: Thanks--talking online with other people that has WLS really helps. I know that this is an off question but has anyone noticed that you sneeze differently after WLS? Also I can't seem to get to sleep its like I have instant insomnia! Mike Tune wrote: , Sorry you have to deal with all of this and are getting no support. Guest guest
I have found that I cannot do raw broccoli, corn, and frozen veggies. Chele' wrote: Hi, Broccoli is a gas induced nightmare for me, I can do squashes, beans and yes 1/2 ear of sweet corn (Im careful when trying new things like the sweet corn).
